  1. My 2015 Fender American Deluxe is my favorite right now. But the guitar that gets the most playing is an old beat up Mexican telecaster I scored from a pawn shop.
  2. The Black Crowes do a great version on The Velvet Underground's, "Oh, Sweet Nuthin'" and for the most part it's simply three chords. G, C, D. With three guitar players on it, they really create opportunities for each to shine in such a simple arrangement. Take a listen.
  3. Wow. That guitar just speaks to me. It's saying ask Tman if he wants to sell it. Beautiful guitar.
  4. DanvillRob, Nice work on that lonesome tune.
  5. Thank you ME. Appreciate that.
  6. I'm not going to bother looking through all of the previous posts, but I wanted to reply with what I know about cowboy chord progressions. Generally speaking typical country progressions often involve only the I chord, the IV chord, the V chord and maybe the VI minor chord. In addition, the typical keys country songs are in is simply because they are the easiest to play on the guitar. In the key of G this would be: G, C, D7 and E minor. In the key of A this would be: A, D, E7 and F# minor. In the key of D this would be D, G, A7 and B minor. In the key of E this would be: E, A, B7 and C# minor. In the key of C this would be: C, F, G7 and A minor. I hope this helps anyone wanting to broaden their playing repertoire. https://i.imgur.com/qQHW0PHm.jpg
  7. Is Record Store Day!!! https://recordstoreday.com/PromotionalEvent/585 So are you into licorice pizza? I am. So is my son. It's been nice seeing his collection grow over the last couple of years. I see a few albums on the official web sight for Record Store Day that interest me. Alice in Chains will release, We Die Young (14,300 copies). Not necessarily a limited release, but it's Alice in Chains that I don't own. The original EP dropped in 1990. Bad Company puts out Live 1979. It's limited to quantity of 3,000 pressings. Originally released on 2CD in 2016 as part of the "Live 1977 & 1979” box, Bad Company’s 1979 set from London’s Wembley Empire Pool is the proper live album that the original line-up never had. Includes timeless live versions of “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” “Bad Company,” “Shooting Star” and “Can’t Get Enough”. It’s first vinyl pressing is this double album opaque orange vinyl release for Record Store Day 2022. Speaking of live recordings... Black Label Society drops a live double album called Alcohol Fueled Brewtality Live. Only 2600 copies. First time on vinyl in the US. 180g 2LP splatter w/download card. Not included in the recent Black Label Society box set. I also spied a Slash & Myles Kennedy with the Conspirators Live From Studio 60. Limited to just 2,250 units. While I'm not a big fan of the band Sepulture, they are releasing Revolusongs with a quantity of just 1800 records. And for those die hard Alice Cooper fans is a 2 LP, and a record day first. (5000) The first US vinyl release since 2011 of the original eleven-song album. On Brutal Brown double 180g vinyl, pressed at 45 RPM, with a download card included. Brutal Planet Tracks are: Wicked Young Man, Sanctuary, Blow Me A Kiss, Eat Some More, Pick Up The Bones, Pessi-Mystic, Gimme, It's The Little Things, Take It Like A Woman, Cold Machines
  8. I heard an interesting story about a song recently. You know how a rabbit hole can be. I chased one down the hole and came out with this. Check it out. Hears the story behind a song that resulted in a pretty good rock ballad. From a dog's perspective, "Fill My World." "Musically, I came up with it at my studio," Slash said. "It was just the opening riff, and then the underlying chord changes started to come out in my mind. I wasn't sure if I was going to pursue it or not, but I had to record it and make a demo. I thought, I don't know what the guys are going to think… Because it has a certain sentimental kind of feel to it. But I sent it to Myles, and he came back with these heartfelt lyrics. I thought it was about the loss we've all been suffering during this dark period, and then he told me it was about his dog. [Laughs] I said, 'Well, you know, everybody has had somebody that they love affected by this, so…'" Kennedy adds: "So, I have this little Shih Tzu named Mozart. He tries to act all tough, but he's really not. And on one occasion, we couldn't get home, our flight was delayed, and there was a really intense storm over our house. We have one of those little camera systems to keep an eye on the dog when we can't be there, and we saw him just freaking out. It was heartbreaking to watch. It terrified the little guy. So, the narrative of the song is inspired by what I imagined he might have been thinking as it all went down. And his plea to us to come home. When you listen to it, it could apply to a relationship between humans. But I thought it was interesting, at least for me, to sing it from Mozart's perspective. And to be really honest, as I was singing the song in the studio, at one point you can hear my voice crack a little bit. It was getting to me. So, it's definitely sung from the heart. And I'm man enough to admit it." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ4s8pLwSVY Lyrics: And when the silence comes It breaks my heart When I'm lonely I always fall apart And when I'm left behind I climb the walls Never knowing If you really cared at all Did you get to where you're going To the place you're meant to be? Still, I'm holding out that you'll return to me Somewhere Somewhere beyond Turn the key Please come back to me What I'd give to know you'll fill my world again The wind is screaming out I pace the floor And I wonder, will I see your face once more? You were always here to save me Like a sentinel in the dark As the thunder keeps on rolling through my heart, oh But still some way I keep holding on Turn the key Please come back to me For how long will you be gone I'm barely breathing Because all I know Is that I miss you so What I'd give to know you'll fill my world again Say it won't be long It won't be long Say it won't be long It won't be long 'Til you'll come home Turn the key Please come back to me For how long will you be gone? I'm barely breathing Because all I know Is that I miss you so What I'd giv toe know you'll fill my world again, oh, oh Say it won't be long It won't be long Say it won't be long It won't be long Please come home Oh-oh Please come home
  9. Nice! Just an all-around good sounding guitar. Oh yeah, looks good too.
  10. I was only interested in Gibson Les Pauls. I preferred the Custom Shop 59s and that red Custom Shop Les Paul hanging on the back wall. The ones on the floor were noticeably heavier and of lower quality.
  11. I was surprised at how yoked Slash is. He's got some guns on him. You figure hefting that ES-1275 around every night will do that for you.
  12. Norman's Rare Guitar Store So many guitars. So little time. Hanging across the wall are some of the best guitars I've ever played. One day. I'll go back when I have more time and am ready to buy. For now, I can only dream.
  13. Seems like I figured it out. Interesting. Need to use Google Chrome vs. Safari. Anyway, there you go.
  14. Can someone remind me how to put a few pictures into this post? Obviously what ever I'm doing isn't working. A little help would be appreciated. Thanks Rabs, but what ever I'm doing is not working for me tonight.
  15. I went to see Slash with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. What a great show. Of course it's always better when you're in Row 8 Center Stage. Slash and the boys put on a groovy rock-n-roll assault last night. Of course the Gibson brand was prominently featured throughout the 21-song set. I saw the AFD Les Paul, the new Red Slash sig, a beautiful R8 or 9, his signature ES-1275, a gold-top Les Paul, and a gold-top destroyer. I think the only Gibson guitar I didn't get a picture of was the flying V. Regardless. That band can bring it. Straight up, rock-n-roll with a serious groove to boot. And regarding the new red Slash Signature Les Paul, Norman from Norman's Rare Guitars ('cause I stopped in on my way down to the show) told me that that guitar is flying out of his store. Complete with the case candy, it makes for a real nice package.🤔 The Band played the following: Driving Rain My Antidote Shots Fired See You Right Back From Cali Bad Rain River is Rising Whatever Gets You By Always on the Run No More Heros Speed Parade Actions Speak Louder Fill My World One You Loved is Gone Call Off the Dogs Dr. Alibi Rocket Man Nothing to Say You're a Lie World on Fire Anastasia Pictures will come later. But did any of you LA cats and kittens get to check out the show?
  16. Well California is indeed a far cry from Idaho. We were talking about it just today. Weather is great here in the Central Coast. No need for an air conditioner. Just lacking the entertainment that a big city offers. Could have went to the Mid-State Fair and seen Dwight Yokem, but I was busy. Joe Bonamassa is playing in Paso Robles soon. I saw a VIP ticket package for four tickets, backstage entrance, my own waitress, bunch of other perks, but it was $2,000.00. That's California for you. Anyway, good to see you all are being productive. Saw Dem00n is back. All grown up and working on his college degree. Wow. Awesome. Hey I have to go check the BBQ. You know, that's what we do 'round here. BBQ tri-tip and chicken. Also, if you're into adult libations, I recommend you learn how to make a coconut mojito. They're killer if you're into that kind of drinkypooh. Peace.
  17. Hello everyone. How ya' all doing? Been a while since I peaked in to see what's going on in the forum.
  18. Seen Kansas several times. Was just listening to Songs for America this morning. Robby was about to release a solo album. Now it will be posthumously. RIP 😢
  19. Did somebody say telecaster? Oooohhh, nice color.
  20. Not sure if you have Craigslist, but just type in Fender Stratocaster and you'll be amazed at all of the Fender strat pickups available. You can find some fair to good pickups on any given day. Also, try Stratosphere Guitar Parts. They have tones of different pickups from different manufacturers and they usually discount them. If you can find them, the AVRI '65 Stratocaster pickups are really good. I recently saw an article where Brad Whitford from Aerosmith admitted that he loved his Fender AVRI 65. "Fender nailed it," he said in the article I was reading. Along that tonal variation there is the Seymour Duncan "Jimi Hendrix" pickups. His are more akin to pickups he actually designed and installed on one of Hendrix's guitars. That's the story I read at least. Still, lots of people love '54 strat pickups. Many swear this is the tone they love for blues, rock, rhythm and blues and a entire genre of American and British music. For something hotter and punchier, there is the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails. They are mini humbucker pickups. I actually had one in a 1983 strat I once owned. But it was only in the bridge position. Recently I found a start on craigslist, it's probably still there, that had three hot-rail-pickups on it. I have noiseless pickups on my 2015 American Deluxe. They're nice too. But, in the long run, if you just want a good set of stratocaster pickups and don't want to spend a lot of money, craigslist and a set of Made in Mexico pickups from the 1990s and early 2000s there is something nice about these pickups. Price and tone. Good luck in your search.
  21. That would do it. Or wrenching on cars all day and never washing your hands.
