  1. Based on a very quick look, there seem to be quite a few available at Sweetwater and Guitar Center, maybe that's where they all went? Shouldn't have looked, as I saw one that interested me at a reduced price. 😅
  2. You could end up putting a lot of money into a guitar that way. 🤣
  3. Never did that to a guitar and never would. Maybe just leave it laying around the house and let nature take its course?
  4. I left my 1965 J-50 with the original rosewood adjustable saddle, I prefer the original character of the guitar and don't want to turn it into something else.
  5. My 1965 J-50 has single-line Kluson Deluxe tuners. 🙂
  6. BTW, was just looking at the Stew Mac article on tuner lubrication again. I would be very careful about using grease! Tried that on some other tuners and it it did help a lot. Then I had the guitar outside on a hot day and the grease melted, ran down the neck and made a mess that was hard to clean up.
  7. That guitar looks like my 1965 J-50's little brother - nice! 😀 Bridge/saddle looks exactly like mine, it is rosewood. Apparently plastic and ceramic saddles were also used and can still be purchased. I kept the original rosewood in mine, it's a pretty distinctive sound and some people don't like it. Why not just leave it as-is and form your own opinion over time? I never heard of an adjustable saddle causing a guitar to "collapse". 😱 The tuners are also like mine. I spent considerable time trying to recondition them, but IMO the problem is that those old Klusons are just stiff. I bought my 1974 J-50 when it was new and immediately thought the tuners were very difficult to operate. If you want to try fixing yours, this may help https://www.stewmac.com/video-and-ideas/online-resources/guitar-tuning-machine-installation-and-repair-information/lubricating-guitar-tuners.html But the new Klusons are much smoother, I have put them on two guitar and really like them. Will say that one of the tuners has developed a minor problem where the knob has to turn a bit before engaging however. Anyway, WD Music Products bought the Kluson brand a number of years ago and markets a full range of vintage replacements that look just like the originals. https://www.wdmusic.com/tuning-machines-guitar.html?brand[]=Kluson I never use polish on mine, just occasional cleaning with Virtuoso Cleaner https://virtuosopolish.com As for humidity, etc. I don't worry much about it and have had no problems. I keep it out on a stand for months at a time, however I do have a humidifier and humidity gauge in that room so it doesn't get too dry, In the summers around here, it's not an issue. Humidity is almost always above 50% even in my air conditioned room! If you're going to hang it on the wall, get a digital humidity meter, they are only $10 - $15 at places like Lowes or online at Amazon. Last I heard, Gibson recommends about 50% humidity.
  8. I sometimes use a DeArmond pickup in my 1965 J-50 (see my avatar photo). I did drill a hole for the jack, was a bit nervous about that but it turned out fine. I have considerable woodworking experience however. If you aren't comfortable doing that, you could have a luthier do it for you. Yeah, you could just let the cable hang out the soundhole, have seen a picture of Lightnin' Hopkins doing that with his J-50 in fact. I tried it at first and found it very awkward (not to mention ugly). But you might try like that for starters, just to see if you like the sound and then drill a hole later. Due to the way the DeArmond mounts, it has the potential to do some minor damage (scraping the finish) around the soundhole. Not worried about that myself, but if you are very particular you might not be happy. Obviously, a magnetic pickup like the DeArmond is going to give a very different sound than modern pickups that use different technologies.
  9. Yep, I got the CD with the "bonus tracks" many years ago too!
  10. I always really liked that too, still have the original LP that I bought in 1970, although I ripped it to my media server years ago. Unlike some of you, I get no pleasure from messing around with old vinyl records. 😁
  11. Just got a copy of Big Joe Williams live at Gerdes Folk City in 1964, it's great. https://music.apple.com/us/album/big-joe-williams-at-folk-city-live-remastered/1444040166
  12. Well you're probably not going to find it in an 11-year-old dormant thread posted to the Gibson acoustic guitar forum. 🙂 Perhaps try posting here? https://forum.gibson.com/forum/83-gibson-usa/
  13. That's unfortunate. But the "you can never have enough guitars" philosophy is pretty common around here. 😂
  14. Quite a collection! Interesting that you gravitate towards the 1975 J-50. A 1974 J-50 Deluxe was my first acoustic, I bought it new and it's one of the few things that remain from that part of my life. Whenever my daughter's family visited, my son in law headed right for the '74 J-50, it was by far his favorite - even though this vintage of Gibson acoustics gets very little love here (one of the people posting in this thread likes to say they sound like they're "stuffed with T-shirts", LOL). Mine has a pretty unique sound and is remarkably LOUD - much more than my other guitars. He liked it so much, I gave it to my son in law a few years ago, I didn't play it much anyway. Is that the original pick guard on the '75 J-50? There are so many variations across the years, it's hard to keep track. But I'm surprised it doesn't have the "bat wing" pickguard like mine. That's one of my favorite things about the J-50! 😀
  15. I had bad luck with Snark several years ago, stopped working after a few months. Got the Peterson Stroboclip and loved it. A few years later the plastic cracked on the clip but I came up with a pretty good repair. Mentioned it in a thread here and another member who works for Peterson saw my post, sent me a PM asking for my address and mailed me a replacement clip, totally unsolicited. Still working great today, I have no complaints! Got one as a gift for my son in law a couple years ago.
  16. FWIW, Guitar Center's site shows new antique natural and cutaway versions in stock, plus a few used ones.
  17. That is certainly easier, but one of the main reasons I replaced my Rotomatics was to get rid of those big, ugly washers. 🙂
  18. That's Donald Duck, singing the blues about how Daisy Duck done him wrong. Mickey Mouse came along and Donald began ranting and squawking about about Daisy. Mickey said, "Calm down Donald! So, Daisy is acting a little strange, what's the big deal?" Donald squawked back "I didn't say she was acting strange, I said she was f***ing Goofy!!!"
  19. I always thought CFM meant "Come F*** Me" (such as "CFM shoes", for example). So perhaps someone with "CFM on the headstock" might "do a certain thing for you". 😂
  20. Has the supply of used guitars increased as a result of the financial hardships people are going through? Seems to me it has, but I'm not paying very close attention. If so, maybe there are more bargain-hunters now and they are wondering if some of the prices are "too good to be true"?
  21. It was merely my opinion that the song is "inappropriate" for a Volvo commercial, I have no power to "declare" anything.
  22. Well, I started this thread and I'm not from "some little social media group" (whatever that is). I was doing the dishes when the commercial came on in the other room and I thought "cool - Pete Seeger", so I went and checked to see what it was. I was literally shocked to see the video that accompanied that song. I'm guessing that others may have just done a search when they first saw this commercial - if you type "seeger volvo" into Google, this thread is the first thing that comes up! Why would you need to be a member of a "little social media group" to do that kind of search? I don't hate Volvo, but that song is really not appropriate for one of their commercials. BTW, I didn't notice until later that I named the thread "Peter Seeger"... ugh, that was a typo, should have been "Pete Seeger" but I couldn't change it. 🙂
  23. You know it's a bad weekend when spam about toilets makes your day.
  24. I've had a D-15M since 2011 and like it. But the sound couldn't be more different from a Gibson. Not a bad thing, just different.
