I’m not too familiar with them so I can’t really comment about them.. But, I played a Black 355 like yours at NAMM a few years ago & loved it! I would have no problem trading up for one eventually.. Can’t right now as I just bought a Gretsch White Falcon..

No Stones.. Who do you consider the greatest Band or Artist? Just curious..
-
Like my Memphis ES335 with 57’s, I don’t see anything that refers them to being PAF Spec.. Which surprised me.. But, trust me, they don’t sound like original late 50’s Gibson PAF Humbuckers. As I mentioned I owned a 59 ES345 that had them & they were the best sounding Pickups I’ve ever heard or played.. The ‘57’s sound good, as do the MHS just not like the Originals…

I’ve owned a vintage 1959 ES345 with the Original PAF Humbuckers & it sounded glorious.. I regret selling it many years ago as I thought all Gibson Humbuckers were like them… Man, was I in for a surprise.. I have yet to play or own another Gibson with Humbuckers that sounds as good as my old ‘59… Gibson can’t or won’t reproduce those Pickups Sound.. I’ve read they were all hand wound & none were to exact Specs.. If there even was exact Specs.. Maybe they were accidentally wound? Some sounded better than others they say.. All I know is the ‘59 I had was the best sounding Humbucker Guitar I’ve ever played.. I own a few Humbucker Gibson ES & LP Guitars & no 2 Guitars sound the same.. While all claim to have those magic PAF Humbuckers.. They don’t. Some are brighter & some are warmer.. To my ear the 490R & 498T combo sound the most reminiscent.. The MHS next closest.. The 57’s are something else & definitely brighter.. All sound good though with the right Amps…

I would love to buy a Set of Gibson USA P90’s with proper Nickel Dogear Covers (USA Spec for Neck & Bridge) for my Epiphone Casino… Not Asian Metric…
-
What kind of Amp are you using? I have a 2013 ES335 with 57 Classics.. Yours might need adjustment to Height & or Pole Pieces.. I do spend some time dialing in my Amps as expected. Usually starting with Volume & Tone set to 5.. All FX turned off… I also start with 3 way Switch in Middle position & the Guitars Volume & Tone knobs set at 5, then adjust for Volume & Tone. Leaving room to turn Volumes & Tones up or down on each Pickup setting as desired.. Always leaving overall room for playing Rhythm & allowing to turn up Volume for Lead solos.. If that makes sense…

I tried getting away with having a small Amp in the Living Room next to our Grand Piano but my wife gave me “The Look”.. LOL! I have a couple Keyboards in my Home Studio so I let her win.. When my brother & or other friends come over & we play it’s no problem…. -
To it was a major event is an understatement.. They Stopped the World.. Then re-started it!

Yeah! I figure if a Princeton is good enough for Mike Campbell it’s good enough for me.. I got really lucky with my 65 PRRI.. It sounded great out of the box.. My 2 Bandmates both have vintage BF & SF Princetons & remark how good mine sounds for not being vintage.. I think they’re just about the perfect small Combo Amp.. -

A couple years ago my daughter was visiting from Houston.. She was having pain in her side. It got so bad I took her to the ER at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage, Ca.. (Where the Presidents go).. Her husband is a 20 year Executive with Exxon Mobil & has excellent Insurance.. we sat in the ER for 5 hours.. Then I got passed & asked for whoever was in charge.. Explained the situation.. They examined her & determined her Appendix had burst.. They decided to finally do something.. Put on a Cart & took her to another floor where we waited 2 more hours to get a Room.. Then waited another 5 hours before they finally took her to Surgery.. They had a Cadillac Plan.. -

I went to an Urgent Care with an injury a few years back.. They said, what kind of Insurance do you have.. I said, United Healthcare.. They said they didn’t accept United Healthcare & referred to another Urgent Care 10 miles from there…. Thank God it wasn’t a life or death situation… -
Pros and cons of Rosewood/Ebony fretboards vs. finished maple?
Larsongs replied to Sheepdog1969's topic in The Gibson Lounge
I own Guitars with all 3 different kinds of Fretboards.. The Maple feels slicker & faster to me… But, I like all 3.. I think Ebony will have a longer life than the other 2.. The rest of the Guitar might have withered to nothing but the Ebony will still be good. LOL! -

I love these kinds of back stories… Very cool Amp! I have an older Fender Twin that never leaves the Studio anymore.. Just too much! I usually use a 65 PRRI or a Vox AC15 with Alnico Blue for playing out.. -

I liked “Danny’s Song” by Kenny Loggins.. It reminds me of my wife & I when we were starting out & having our first child back in our sort of Hippy days.. I haven’t heard it for years but it was on Sirius a while back & decided to learn It. I have a difficult time on the last verse getting a little choked up.. LOL.. But, I think it makes it better because it’s real.. -
Pros and cons of Rosewood/Ebony fretboards vs. finished maple?
Larsongs replied to Sheepdog1969's topic in The Gibson Lounge
I like Maple, Rosewood & Ebony.. They’re all great! I do use lemon oil occasionally on Rosewood & Ebony fretboards as the dry Desert climate does dry them out.. Every couple years or so.. I also adjust, tighten & occasionally add a drop of oil to the Tuners. I do detail my Guitars & do try to keep them beautiful.. I’m not a fan of the Relic look.. -

That’s a cool Amp & an interesting choice for an Acoustic Guitar but it works! Your little buddies are enjoying it too! -

Just an FYI, Not all Dr’s, Specialists, Hospitals, Urgent Care & ER’s accept all Supplemental Insurance Plans.. Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield are the Big Boys in most cases.. -

Different States have different Premiums or Rates. Which is why we can’t Shop & compare State to State.. Calif & NY are the most costly.. All Insurance costs are not equal, which is BS, depending on where you live.. -

I think it’s great to have Choice! We don’t have to agree but we can all still be civil… While the Hole might not be everyone’s cup of Tea it may be a great sounding Guitar.. Ultimately that’s what is important.. I notice on Forums that some Guys knock & don’t buy Guitars because they don’t like a color. Seriously? What if it’s the best sounding & playing Guitar you’ve found in the Model you’re looking for? Color isn’t the main thing! It’s the Sound, Playability & Quality… -

Everything looks cool except the unnecessary hole.. -
I’ve played a handful of cheap Guitars that Sound good.. I’ve played a handful of expensive Guitars that didn’t sound good. The majority though are cheap Guitars that don’t sound good.. Why? Inferior quality content.. Most high end Guitars sound pretty darn good.. Why? Superior quality content.. If the OP really wants good Sound & he’s set on modding he needs high quality Pickups like Lollar, Duncan or Fralin.. They’re not cheap.. Roughly $3-$400 a Set.. Then the cost of installing.. Another $150.00 or so.. Is it really worth it? Not IMO.. It would be a total waste of time to buy & pay for install of cheap Pickups.. He already has them! Sell the Guitar & buy a better Guitar.. Buy a Used entry level Gibson & it will have high quality Components & USA P90’s or USA Humbuckers.. It doesn’t get any better than that!
