  1. The best thing about wildfires in the West is if the wind blows eastward it'll give us all the chance to choke on good old AMERICAN made smoke instead of all that imported stuff! 😉 Whitefang

  5. Yeah, I tried it before. Next best thing to hot silt. But which BRAND do you serve her? Whitefang
  6. That's always seemed like a good idea to me too. But at a wedding assignment that had a band instead of the usual DJ the band's guitarist(who was using a wireless system) had something go whacky with it and couldn't get it from loudly sustaining a certain cord from the song they were playing and it drowned out most of the rest of the band for six or seven minutes until he could cut it off somehow. Bu I'm sure that was a rare anomaly. Whitefang
  7. And then there's the brand of coffee we each prefer to use. For example..... I now use a "store brand"(Meijer) coffee they call "half caff". Supposedly boasting having half the caffeine of regular coffee. So, in effort to reduce the amount of coffee I consume daily and cut back on the caffeine I gave it a try and found it's pretty good. Years ago I used to use a "decaf" brand called BRIM. Tasted no different from regular, but since the mid '80's I haven't been able to find it anywhere. And at that point I took to an old brand called CHASE & SANDBORN. It now too is difficult to find. Tried CHOCK FULL O' NUTS for a while but the cost got to me. But grew up on Maxwell house and A&P's Eight O'Clock coffee. I remember going to the now defunct A&P supermarket and having the cashier pour those 8 O'clock beans into the big red grinders they had at each register. And eventually grinding the beans myself when they moved those grinders into the coffee aisles. I miss all that too. Whitefang
  8. Hey, yeah! Guess I should have hung onto that Ronald Reagan $3 bill I had back in the '80's. Whitefang

  10. Well, lah-tee-dah! Never been in the tax bracket where I can hire "gardeners". But when it got to where I had to hire someone to mow the lawns for me $50 every other week was the usual cost. That included bagging clippings, clean up, edging. Right now my nephew and his son do it for the same price. Whitefang
  11. Never traveled to Europe, but if I ever do I'll try to remember that. But I do recall that until sometime in the '90's in Canada there was no such thing as the "refill" like in the states, when you ordered coffee with your meal you'd get endless refills of your coffee at no charge. In Canada I asked for a refill of my coffee while having dinner and found I was charged for another cup of coffee on my bill. When I brought the matter up to the cashier I was told, "We don't do the free refill thing in Canada." That happened sometime in the '70's. Whitefang
  12. Yeah, until some millennial cashier tells you they didn't make $20 bills in the '80's. Whitefang
  13. Yeah. I have a super huge lot and both my front and back yards are pretty large. When we first moved here I could manage mowing all that lawn without a riding mower. But for the last few years I had to hire someone to handle it all. And I don't really miss mowing the lawn, but what I do miss is being able to. Whitefang
  14. I tried "French Pressed" coffee before. Sorry, wasn't much IM-pressed. Whitefang
  15. Here's one for ya.... Some years ago I used to have a Walmart credit card. When making out the monthly bills one night, I had already had money orders made out to the amounts of certain creditors( was srtill waitin delivery of check from my bank).. I noticed that by the time my payment would reach Walmart's payment center it would be past due. So, to avoid a past due charge on my next bill, I drove the 10 miles to the Walmart store to pay the bill at the service desk. And when I handed them the money order I was told, "We can't accept money orders for bill payments at the store." I tried explaining my intent to avoid a late charge and was told, "You could go to where you purchased the money order and cash it in and come back with the cash." But on the back of the money order it explicitly stated there was a $20 charge for doing that. She also said I could pay by check, but as I mentioned earlier, I had no checks to write on. And anyway..... It seems that I could write them a check for the bill's amount, and that check could bounce higher than a superball tossed off the Empire State building, but they won't take a money order, which is a sure thing as far as getting their money is concerned. I left the store, cut my Walmart card into confetti, paid off the balance in a couple of months and never shopped at Walmart again. Whitefang
  16. "Makin' Thunderbirds"--Bob Seger Whitefang
  17. I'd have just pulled out of the store. When I was 18 I found a car I liked at the used car section of a local Ford dealer. When opening talks about making the purchase the salesman asked how I intended to pay for it. When I said "cash" he started to quickly walk off saying he couldn't sell it for cash to someone my age! But did say I could finance it through the dealership. Sure. With interest tacked on to the payments and wind up paying more for it than it was priced as. 🙄 It was/is a major factor as to why I'll never buy any Ford product, new or used. Whitefang
  18. T'was all a mountainous molehill. Whitefang
  19. Yep. I have a few pieces of Corning Ware "handed down" to me as well. Good stuff too. Whitefang
  20. Gad! I'd rather just put up some bug zappers. Next thing, you gun freaks will come up with some kind of "weapon" to mass shoot head lice! 🙄 Whitefang
  21. I'm also hanging onto this old Corning Ware 12 cup electric percolator for old times sake(been in the family for many moons) And this Corning Ware stove top percolator I kept in case of power outage emergencies.. But now that I have a Generac, I just might keep it for kicks. Sepiatone
