  1. Agreed, both bridge and strings look a great deal more than the 'couple of months old'. Though Spicylips says it came like this 'straight out of the box'. Spicylips: I agree about new strings needed. Old strings are difficult to intonate anyway. New strings will take awhile to settle (they benefit from a little stretching). Then tune to concert the way rct described. See how that works out first.
  2. Yes the split coil sounds sweet. I have checked out specs but can find no details as to pickup ID. Someone on here will know. You could wait and bump the thread a few times, but I suggest trying to ID the pickup first. If you lift it out and check underneath it may have a sticker or mark that would be helpful. Try that first. Then, the best thing IMO is too contact Gibson direct and ask them for pickup specs.
  3. Pictures of the bridge (plan view included) would be helpful. Did you buy this new? Is the bridge installed upside down?
  4. Me & Nathan wrestling out the stubborn stump (nearly 3 years ago). We succeeded eventually, that stump is still in the garden. Its too heavy to lift into the car for a tip-run.
  5. Yes. One of my favourites too. To me also; he was Bond Sean will be sorely missed. 90 years is a good innings nevertheless.
  6. Ok then. The uk goes on another month of lockdown starting this Thursday 5th Nov. So that's the hat trick. The 3rd holiday to be cancelled this year. We (the ex carers) were due to go to the Isle of Wight for an early Xmas break on week 48. There are 6 of us. 3 of us have confirmed that we'll roll it over 'til next year (or next year's lockdown). Oh well. Unlucky but understandable 😶
  7. I've lost my ability to learn man... Good job I don't easily lose my cool. I'm supple enough to kick my a$$ pretty good.
  8. Hi NS, It can change the sound. You want more definition, so a lower output replacement would be sensible. You can tell I'm no expert. Experts talk about amplitude being different than impedance. But lower output is the extent of my understanding. If you do it may be out of (volume) balance with the other pickups (you have 2 or 3). I suppose you have tried rolling back the volume at the guitar already? and tried it with the coil split? What pickup is your neck. Is that the M series mini-humbucker? You will probably need to replace it with a similar sized pickup. Pickup depth will need checking.
  9. Cheers all! 🥂 I'm drinking to your health with a Speyside single malt scotch. 🥃
  10. That's a lot better looking than the DC that tempted me! Sweet...
  11. That's like a WW2 prison camp caper. Its very like something a workmate of mine did. He had a canoe built on site at the factory. It was strictly 'under the radar'. He sourced all the parts and routed it through the workshops. It was kept secret from middle & upper management. When it was complete, the problem was getting it offsite. This was a secure site (military aircraft) with security guards manning the gates 24/7. So he gets a couple of friends waiting outside to 'receive' it at a pre-arranged position of the fence. They use ladders to carry it over the fence and succeed, but... Its spotted by the security cameras and the guards scoot around outside to confront the receivers. Completely misunderstanding what's going on, the guards send the guys off with the canoe telling them that they are not permitted to bring that onto the premises.
  12. My favourite small shop was PJ's Guitar Store. The owner Pete was a player and enthusiast. I liked him a lot. I bought a couple of guitars, an amp and lots of smaller stuff from him. He was lucky, he retired and sold the business on. The new owners moved premises to another part of Portsmouth. When I first visited, it was bristling with guitars and busy. There was a expensive guitar hanging from the ceiling I wanted to try. I asked and was told, 'yeah I'll fetch it down later'. They didn't fetch it down. I waited & asked again and was told the same thing. I eventually got p1ssed off and left. It seemed like a cliquey place for 'friends'. That was 20 years ago. I last went in there 5 years back. It's still a cliquey place for 'friends', but now they have next to no stock and almost no turnover. My luthier supports it. They have trouble trying to pay their tax on the place now. We have a large PMT (chain) store nearby and its handy, but its basically a place to shift boxes.
  13. 4 more hours of silence at I'm starting a book on it. odds 5/1 : SG 10/1 : Firebird 30/1 : Hello Kitty 100/1 : L175
  14. Blown Out has been running down steadily for a while. I think we had 2 gigs in 2019 & of course nothing since C19. Most offers of gigs are difficult to confirm anyway with seven guys with families. Its like trying to herd a bunch of cats. I miss playing out. Next confirmed gig is my son's wedding next August. That should have been this year, but yeah... C19 again. I hope it works out for next year. Beat buddy is good, and I should try to use it again. It would be terrific for a bassist I think. If you get the extra pedal, you could gig with it (seated would be best). At different parts of the song you can stomp to add fills and variations. You can plug it into your Aux and adjust the volume independently. Its expensive, but its built like a tank.
  15. I'm not sure what you want to know. You've just bought it. You know what it is, how old it is and who made it. Epiphone should be able to help you.
  16. Are you saying there is no serial number on one? Hopefully there is. Do you know both serial numbers? I suggest calling Gibson, quote the serial numbers and ask for the information you want that way.
  17. No offence taken. I hadn't noticed. Thanks for the nudge 🙂
  18. Looks sweet. Is that gold hardwear? Post better pics when able.
  19. Lets know how the Zoom checks out. I have a Beat Buddy for drums, though its been gathering dust for a while.
  20. My pal was killed playing tennis when the ball struck him on the forehead. It was a lovely service.
