  1. I don’t think I’ve seen these guys mentioned here yet. This is some music nerd stuff, not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea. Even a lot of music nerds won’t like it and that’s ok but I think these guys are pretty groundbreaking. Listen to this song and then check out more by them if you like it. I think some of you will enjoy
  2. It’s just the analine dye on the mahogany. When you see it in person it makes more sense because the binding isn’t discolored over the maple parts Great looking LP by the way. For $2,900 I’m almost a little jealous. Looks like it’s in excellent condition
  3. The mahogany is colored with a pore filler that has red analine dye mixed into it. it’s normal for the analine dye to bleed into the binding around the mahogany
  4. So let’s say you go into a store and pick up a Martin. The look, feel, and sound are stunning. It’s the best acoustic you’ve ever played and you’re completely in love, but there’s just one problem. You don’t know what species it’s made from. Is it essential to know which species of wood or can we just appreciate the guitar as an instrument?
  5. I’d keep it as is and use the Firebird when you want minis
  6. I had never considered that my guitar isn’t vegan friendly but you’re right
  7. I’m sure whatever they use on their flagship/high end models will be very nice
  8. Despite how many connections there may appear to be it should extremely easy to troubleshoot and repair. I don’t think it’s unwise to take it to a tech though. He’s gonna do something embarrassingly simple and make it sound all impressive 😜
  9. Plug it into an amp with the volume up to an audible level and poke at the wires (specifically around the selector switch and output jack). If you hear a noise from a certain wire when you touch it then it likely has a cold solder joint or a short to the shielding or something like that You could just shotgun it and flow some fresh 63/37 on all the joints. The main trick to not having a cold joint is to heat all parts that are supposed to be connected directly with a wetted soldering iron tip before applying a small amount of solder. Many people just heat up the solder lug of a pot for example and let the hot solder try to heat up the wire. The hot solder solidifies immediately around the cool wire without actually flowing onto it. So if you’re soldering a wire to a pot for example, you want the iron to touch both the wire and the solder lug at the same time as the solder is flowing on. it’s also totally possible that the switch is compromised. The slide switches that come on jaguars aren’t really the most reliable type of switch. Toggle switches tend to last longer and be less problematic in general
  10. You sparking up anything other than the grill? It looks like a cypress hill music video on my coffee table right now
  11. I’d tell you but it’s so well hidden on my R9 I can’t find it
  12. Used car salesmen are probably not the best philosophical role models lol
  13. Excellent playing. Could you post a couple pics showing the locking nut up close? I’ve been curious about that part ever since first hearing about it
  14. Yeah a $2500 R_ is probably gonna have a headstock repair and other ****ery. Otherwise it’s probably stolen or the owner is absolutely desperate. My experience with Gibson historic reissues (true historic or whatever it’s called) is very limited but I’m a big big fan. My R9 is just an unbelievable guitar. I haven’t played an R8 that I enjoyed personally but lots of people rave over them so it’s just personal preference
  15. Yeah I agree it is going to be most likely related to a solder joint on the pickup selector switch or output jack Big manufacturers have to use lead free solder which doesn’t flow as well. Even when it’s done perfectly lead free solder joints don’t look as nice as 63/37. Very common for cold joints especially in the guitar world where I notice a widespread lack of understanding and technique regarding soldering. I would say the vast majority of videos I’ve seen where a guitar related guy is soldering show improper technique
  16. The bridge pickup angle is one of the least significant parts of the whole thing but Jimi is THE pioneer of using multiple effects pedals at once. He was all about pedals and it’s really hard not to notice them
  17. I used to love getting guitar world. Also used to get the musicians friend catalog and just look at the pictures 😂
  18. That is a thoroughly incorrect assessment of Jimi’s sound if I’ve ever read one
  19. A one piece body?! The V is wider than most bodies to begin with so a one piece is wild
  20. Btw the most pornographic part of the guitar you could show me is the neck to heel transition on the back of the headstock
  21. When I was a kid and bought my first really good guitar (SG Standard) my best friend had also bought a brand new white Flying V. We were both in love with our own guitars but in a weird way almost slightly jealous of the other’s because they were both so cool. I have never forgotten how awesome that guitar was and I’ve always wanted a Flying V ever since. For my next build I’m going to fashion a V shaped contraption to suit my boyish desires and I’m hoping for some inspiration Please flash me dat V if you’ve got it. If it‘s one of those 80’s ones without the pickguards you get big bonus points and ultra triple points if it has a Floyd Rose
  22. The Momoa thing is not offensive but some of the virtue signaling here is
