NGD - Ephiphone Casino Coupe

I picked up a Casino Coupe (Natural finish) from the local Guitar Center last week (had to order it online since the stores didn't have any in stock). I'm very impressed with it. It came strung with 10s and I put on a set of Super Slinky 9s. It was very easy to change the strings since the tailpiece is slotted - no need to thread them through holes (see the photos). Even with the lighter strings the Coupe has a lot of volume for playing unplugged and the P90s sound very good too; rich and clean. It does feedback more easily than my humbucker guitars when I kick in the OD pedal, but it's easy enough to control/avoid. One thing I notice is when both pickups are active and I roll down the volume to zero on one of them the sound turns off completely. I expected just the one pickup to cut out and I wonder if this is normal for a P90 combo? I wouldn't normally do that so it's not a problem, but it makes me curious how they're wired.

The neck is the same as the Dot as far as I can tell. It has the same scale length, radius, nut width, and fret count with the join at the 19th fret, which makes for better access to the upper frets (compared to the bigger Casino). I lowered the action a little, but didn't need to adjust the neck which was already straight (it does come with an allen wrench). The guitar is a light, comfortable weight. The neck does tend to pull down a little (like the Dot) so I'm getting a strap that will provide some friction. Here are a few pictures:

when the toggle is in the middle position it is normal for there to be no output when one of the volumes is all the way down. same as an lp or sg.

nice guitar!

Thanks for confirming the way the volume controls work, and glad you like the look of it [smile] Normally I wouldn't buy a guitar without playing it first, but it worked out fine.

Beautiful. And you picked the right color, too. [thumbup]

Glad you like it. I decided on the Natural since I've already got a Dot in Vintage Sunburst and I don't fancy Cherry. I do like it being all about the wood grain, though I would have seriously considered "Ice Tea" if it was available [smile]

[thumbup] looks great! I'll have to check youtube to see if anyone's demoing theirs yet.

thanks for sharing - pleased you like it!

Keen to see what price they come out at here and I'd be wise to factor in a full set up and restring too I guess. $449 in the US is amazing.

Well how does that guitar play . I think its time i buy one . Yours looks great.

I'd say it plays very well. The neck is fast with easy access to the upper frets (necks joins the body at the 19th fret) and I'm happy with both the clean and overdrive tones I'm getting out of it. It stays in tune even with a lot of string bending, plus it's very easy to change the strings and adjust the action. Is there anything in particular you're wondering about?

Unplugged the Coupe has a lot more volume/resonance compared to the 339 (which has the center block). Can't say how they differ plugged in.

By the way I'd like to change the pickguard and the tuners on my Coupe eventually. I fancy a black or tortoise shell guard and keystone (maybe green) tuners. Does anyone know a good source for these? Regarding the tuners in particular I'd like to try to find a "drop in" replacement to avoid drilling and hole-filling. I'm thinking that 339 parts might work, but haven't found much online so far. TIA [smile]
