vette
I am considering purchasing this 1939 J-35. If it $ 5,000, do you guys purchase? Please tell me about the damage to the neck.
rct
I'm not nearly as nice as ghost, that's a 5000 dollar old guitar that's been a bit wrecked. That's 5000 dollars that would buy a great new guitar by any number of builders and still have plenty left over for a small vacation. I wouldn't just pass, I'd run away quickly. rct
Sgt. Pepper
I'd buy it with your money not mine. For 5k you can get a Preston Thompson. Or a D-41 and have some extra cash for some strings. Edited December 8, 2020 by Sgt. Pepper
Big Bill
That thing is in worse shape than Willie's. I think your money would be better spent on a high price call girl rather than that guitar. 1
Sgt. Pepper
5k can buy a lot of hookers and blow. Is it just me or does that neck have ripples in it? Edited December 8, 2020 by Sgt. Pepper
jdgm
If you re-post your query in the Acoustic section of the forum; https://forum.gibson.com/forum/40-gibson-acoustic/ You should get some expert advice about pre-war Gibson acoustics. As has been said above, it is a lot of money. To me it looks as though the bridge may have been replaced at some point, and if so - why? Did the top start pulling up? Good luck!
OrdinaryNimda
I saw them "ripples" too. Had no idea what to think or say...

One the owners must have had massively crushing man hands to dent wood by squeezing it.

Yep, that'll be one of them 30's ripplenecks alright. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

It must be for gripping the neck better.
