kidblast
yea but get a noise gate. the 60cycle him is going to drive you insane with the kind of gain settings you'll be going for.

All that aside, P90 pickups have a sweet sound that's hard to duplicate. with the amount of gain that will be applied with the style the OP is going for, p90s are not going to really make a hell of a lot of difference I'd stick with the humbuckers personally

Dave Murray from Iron Maiden used a strat but weren't those SD mini humbuckers? most of "that" crowd, if they had strats, there was an HB at least, at the bridge, if not Neck as well
Notes_Norton
P90s are my favorite pickup for almost anything. Nothing beats the attack of a P90. If you want distortion, you can add it, but you can't add that attack to a humbucker or regular single coil. I have Duncan P-Rails so I can get P90, Rail, Series humbucker or Parallel humbucker. I highly recommend them. Notes ♫

Notes_Norton
The Parker has the P-Rails. Over 90% of the time it's in the P90 configuration. I played P90s exclusively for a couple of years, and after I got used to the ping when I picked, everything else just sounds dull. But that's just me. Dub-T-123
The op basically wants a strat with a humbucker and most other options will be compromises of some sort

Well you recommended an $8,000 Les Paul which has nothing to do with the OPs interests so yeah I’d say you missed the question a bit

Notes_Norton
The Duncan P-Rails will give a P90 sound and a Humbucker sound, plus a strat-like rail sound. I have them on my Parker, and I highly recommend them. They are like the Swiss Army Knife of pickups. The weakest of the 3 sounds is the rail, but if you use two pickups and turn the volume up a bit, they sound very strat-like. The P90 is a little brighter than a soap bar and the humbucker is right on. Notes ♫
sparquelito
My Yamaha Revstar features P90's, and it is a BEAST. If I have to eventually sell off all other guitars, this one may remain as the last guitar standing. It's that good.😗
Larsongs
I have 4 Casino’s & a Gibson Les Paul Special with P90’s.. None are made in China as I think their P90’s sound very harsh… All mine have Gibson USA P90’s which sound really good! I think P90’s are about the most versatile Pickup you can use for everything..

The right P90’s & Guitars will do the job.. The Chinese P90’s sound shrill & harsh… avoid them if possible... The smartest choice for the job he wants to IMO are Gibson P90’s in a Solid body Les Paul… The OP said nothing about budget? I’m recommending a couple outstanding Gibson Guitars with P90’s that would do a magnificent job for his endeavor.. Another really great one is the Gibson Memphis ES Les Paul Gold Top with P90’s & Bigsby.. I’m actually searching for the right one for me.. If you want less expensive, get a Gibson Les Paul Special with P90’s… I have one & they will do the job he wants & just about everything else & will sound fantastic! Anyone who says there’s no difference between Chinese P90’s & Gibson USA P90’s can’t hear.. It also depends whether or not you want the best.. There are cheaper high quality Gibsons’ with Great sounding USA P90’s.. Like a Gibson Les Paul Special as previously I mentioned.. No Hollow Body feedback to deal with either.. IMO, if you don’t at least want Gibson P90’s in the scenario the OP presented then it doesn’t matter what you play.... Or any other P90 scenario..
