When did they drop that affiliation?

I think Kalamazoo was union, and it says so in the labels from there. Memphis (when there) and Nashville are not union.

Gibson Guitar has long had a reputation of being a hard-nosed employer. In 1985, Gibson Guitars famously closed its unionized factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan to set up shop non-union in Nashville.

That's  enough to keep me from buying anything direct from them.

Although if that Kermit The Frog J-45 pops up again I might have to jump.

You do and I’ll laugh at you, not with you.

Gibson QC is spotty. Keep an extra hundred for whatever your local luthier will have to fix.

Most of the time it's just minor cosmetic stuff though.

I love when Gibson fans say stuff like this. Just makes me scratch my head. They willingly accept sub par QA.

Anyone wants a kick in the arse. I’m giving them out free. The second one is gonna cost ya.

I know. But only Gibsons sound like Gibsons to me. It's a trade-off, albeit an unfair one at current prices. But I hear ya.
