Andre S
Is the SM57 a good mike to use to mike an amp or an acoustic guitar? Or is there another mike that I should consider?
:oilpit:
Mike is my name... Mic is a nickname for a microphone... As for the actual queston, I have no real idea, but I doubt that it would not work or produce bad sound quality, all it really does it pick up the sound
matiac
It's either the SM57 OR SM58 is intended for vocal applications. If yer gonna mic an amp, I'd get those dynamic Nady SP5 's, their great for amps, suck for vocals.
Dub-T-123
The SM57 is great for guitar. It's what I use. I think you might want to try something else for acoustic though. And I believe it's the SM58 that is the vocal intended one.
daveinspain
The 57 or 58 would work fine... They are good quality mics at a good price.... If you want tu use a mic stand and point the mic right at the speaker use a 57, its a very directional mic and will not pick up much of the sounds it is not aimed at. If you want to hang the mic from the top of the amp use a 58 its an omni directional mic. I would suggest the 57 though...
Gilliangirl
I think it's SM58 for vocal, SM57 for instruments. But larryp posted that he'd tried an SM27 and found it to be better than the SM57 for mic-ing an acoustic guitar
surfpup
Is the SM57 a good mike to use to mike an amp or an acoustic guitar? I'm a fan of it for both of those applications. I even sing through the 57 sometimes instead of the SM58.
FirstMeasure
You probably won't be disappointing in the Sm 57, but you might want to check out the Sennheiser E609. Not as Durable as the Shure, but Sennheiser has great suund reproduction.
xdistancex
the sm57 and the e609 are the 2 that i use in the studio all the time, the 57 is way more of a diverse mic because you can mic cabs, vocals, and i even use them on the drums, but the e609 is a quality mic that produces great sound, and has a flat surface making mic-ing easy!
