It means "second".  The guitar was returned, fixed, and sold again as new.  That repair could have been anything, from minor switching glitch to pickup doesn't work to busted tuning machine.  To sell it again, for a second time, they have to mark it.

Wonder if anyone at Gibson, working from home, with nothing to do,  could figure out a way to create a page on their site to de-code all their esoteric stuff.  Even a simple sentence explaining how you can figure out what year your Gibson was built, based on the convention they've used for the past 50 years or so.    At the very least, it would cut their incoming phone queries in half.

Then what would members have to post and complain about? It can't be all J-45 worship.
