GuitarJunkie
I figured I'd post this in a new thread so the Silverburst thread can hopefully die a quick but painful death. I have it in mind to buy an Explorer in the next few weeks/months. I'm sure there's plenty of people here who can point me in the right direction. I don't know if shipping from Japan is any less of a hassle than shipping from the US' date=' but there's a fantastic guitar dealer in Japan. In fact, I know quite a few Americans (and Canadians) that have bought from them since many of their prices are almost identical to the prices over here, [i']BUT[/i] they get some Japan-only exclusives. Here's a link to their site (it's their translated link, so ignore/enjoy some of the ridiculous descriptions)... http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/?wb_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ishibashi.co.jp%2F&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2 The company is Ishibashi Music in Japan. Again, I've spoken to several people that have dealt with them and I've never heard anything but good reviews. Here's their direct (non translated) link... http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/ And here's a link to their english page with contact/ordering instructions. http://www.ishibashi-music.com/ If you click on this image on the right it will take you to some of their Gibson inventory. Just to make life easier, here's the translated version of that same link... http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/?wb_url=http%3A%2F%2F1484.bz%2Fc%2Fpart.cgi%3Fpart%3D0%26part2%3D59%26type%3D0&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2 Right now 100,000 japanese Yen is just under $1000 US ($962 actually) so as a quick and dirty conversion a guitar going for 399,000 Yen is roughly $3999 or one at 89,000 Yen is around $
Ian Martin
It's a US made guitar, support US shops! Our economy is shitty enough as it is!
ibis
It's a US made guitar' date=' support US shops! Our economy is shitty enough as it is![/quote'] Papa is from Australia. Japan is pretty local! So long as the guitars are real Gibsons, the USA economy will benefit!
RichCI
If I were buying a funky shaped guitar from a shop in Japan, I'd go for one of these. More details at the Killer web site.
GuitarJunkie
It's a US made guitar' date=' support US shops! Our economy is shitty enough as it is![/quote'] Of my 25 or so guitars, all but 4 were bought within a 20 minute drive of my house. The others were either purchased online or I drove to another city (but all still in the US). I only suggested ishibashi because, as mentioned, Papa is in Australia. They get completely screwed as far as Gibson prices. Plus none of the online retailers in the US will ship to him. If I can help a guy halfway around the world get a fair deal on a US made product, that can only help the economy. As far as north americans shopping at Ishibashi, the people I talk to have only done so to buy models Gibson won't offer in their own country. Are you listening (reading) Gibson?!?! Bluemoon
It reduces the trade deficit. The more goods we export, the better our economy will be.
led floyd9
It's a US made guitar' date=' support US shops! Thundergod
a little off topic but why are prices in australia and parts of europe so high on american guitars? i live in souht america where everything costs twice the list price, and here guitars (american, japanese, mexican, china) cost the same as in the united states... i got my standard faded for 1650, that was in october 2007, right before u.s. stores raised the price for the standard fadeds. A standard here costs only $100 more than in the states, it is really fair price consideing if i wanted to import it by myself it would cost me around $500 + any goof tax they apply at custom. (shity government so customs aply any tax they fancy to anything you bring in).
Papa Lazarou
Hey GJ, Just saw your post. With the cost of locally bought guitars being so high, I have been looking at online sources for new guitars. I'm checking out that site now. My brother lives in Japan, so I might get him to go and have a look for me. Although, the last time he bought me a guitar (my birthday in april) he bought me an Ibanez shredomatic 9000. I'm thinking about an Explorer of some sort. This site however, doesn't seem that much cheaper than buying here in-store. Then again, this, is ****ing HOT. http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/?wb_url=http%3A%2F%2F1484.bz%2Fweb-shop%2F40473&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2 Honestly, the reason I'm after an explorer is just for the look. The last gig I played, the other guitarist in my band cracked out his POS Hamer V, and everyone loved it. There's me with my LP and lovingly handmade, custom and considered Strat, and he's the one with all the attention. I've always had a thing for explorers, but not the particularly metal variety. Maybe a GotW cherry Explorer Pro? Regarding this Japanese site, hate to re-dredge settled rivers, but is it trustworthy? :)
