Hi Gibson Forum Members,

I'm still quite new to the forum but I thought I'd start my second post by asking the Gibson forum for any suggestions for my first tattoo. I have a gift certificate for 1 hours worth of tattoo design. I can't yet decide what kind of tattoo to get other than I want it to be round (as in rolling) but it doesnt have to be a wheel and I want it to scream rock and roll......

Here is my second most recent gig at The Edgewater Casino Celebrations at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics:

Be careful and take time choosing something, don't rush into anything... TRUST ME.

I've got 1/2 a stupid chest piece right now. I got my whole chest done up when I was 15, now I'm trying to get it removed. For the record it's not the most fun thing I've ever done.

Maybe something gratuitous and self-serving - promote your musical endeavors 24/7.

[crying]

Our 20 year old has a smattering of cheap nasty-looking tats because he won't get a job.

Can't afford anything nice, so he does stuff a few bucks at a time or in trade for drugs.

I pointed out to him that if he keeps it up, at some point nobody will hire him.

Then it won't matter at all - he'll be free to get whatever the hell he wants.

Maybe LOSER across his forehead.

Seems to be his long range plan...

Yall will make up when he gets right......he can where long sleaves at the table while you have coffee.........

But any face tattoo's will prolly push the sit down to your old age where you can take your glasses off and not see it.

I have tats' date=' and they are overrated IMO............ Wished I had never marked myself up[thumbdn']

So many of my friends have said that same thing. Luckily, I never got a tattoo although I have considered it in the past. Here were some of the things I contemplated:

1. Florida State University related tat (I got my BA and MA there)

2. Led Zeppelin related tat

3. the musical notation for the theme to Beethoven's 5th symphony (the "fate is at the door knocking")

4. a Les Paul related tat

5. my dog's head (he is a German Shepherd Dog named Panzer)

Thankfully, I did not go through with getting any of those things inked under my skin. I do like all those things still, though.

When did you get them done?

The tattoo industry has changed so much in the last decade if you stop and look at it. People are guessing that if you get a quality tat now and take care of it, then it should last forever. Really when I got mine I talked with an older guy who got this big thing during WWII, now it just looks like a huge blob on his arm. But when I talked with him he was amazed at how much the whole deal has changed, even some of my relatives that got tats in the 90's were surprised how much it's changed since then.

Think long and hard before you get a tattoo. Don't do it because it's free, and don't pick the "artist" for that reason either!

If you really want a tattoo, you'll know which image you want, and you should then begin looking for someone with talent.

Good luck!

Great name for a dog!

1. Artist must be top notch. I only get them from one guy. He's not around any more so I shan't ever get another, badly as I want another.

2. Nothing is more important than safety.

HEP C and HIV not fun...pick a CLEAN PLACE or the best tatt is just a sad reminder.

3. Be sure you can deal with the implications.

Location: can you get the job you want with it where you want it (face)?

Motif: will this offend people, or will you regret it (nazi flag?)

I have 4 tatts.

I wanted three of them very badly since my early teens.

When I see them on my arms and on the back of my neck I feel good about them.

I started drawing the symbol I tatted on my neck with a marker on the backs of all my shirts when I was 13.

I had a friend draw the same dragon on my right arm for years before first period English for two years.

My arm band I could live without but I'd want one. I like the arm band.

Only thing I didn't get that I want still is my skull and crossbones.

I got one tattoo I didn't always desire, but it is very important to me, as it is the exact same one my ex has.

We got them the same night. We were 18. She is like a sister to me now after the breakup. It makes me smile. I have her for ever. That moment, that age, that era of our lives she was ALL mine, and that tatt represents it.

Tattoos are like mile markers of the distance we have come, as Ani said.

It can be great for your body image or it can screw it up and make you feel trashy.

No one can give you design ideas, I mean duh.

Sailor Jerry or gangster...I mean, that's personal xD

Spelling and Grammar! I know that's not rock and roll, but neither is a tattoo that says "your next" instead of the proper "you're next". Seriously, 1 hour won't get you much so be prepared to pay a little extra, and if possible don't pick it out of a book. Also, if this is your first tattoo, make sure you get it somewhere that can't be seen when wearing a short sleeved business shirt, or a regular shirt with the sleeves rolled up. After that go nuts if you're job/career allows it/you like them. Picking stuff out of a binder is also a little passe but that's just my opinion. Mine has white UV ink in it so under black light a certain part lights up.

Finally, and I can't stress this enough, SPELLING AND GRAMMAR. Seriously, google hilarious tattoo misspellings. If you don't you might end up like the girl who got "Sweet Pee" tattooed to her instead of the proper, "pea"

Good Luck.

I suspect my "dad" gene is kicking in here.... DON'T DO IT! It's a fad that's outlived it's relevance.

For myself, I never wanted to give the authorities an easy way to identify me...so if one day I want to "get lost" there won't be an easy way to track me down...think about it..... "Free gifts" are rarely "free".

Rob...

I have apparently no "dad gene," but...

Hey, I second all you wrote. I also have a few thankfully minor unintended "marks" I wish I hadn't received.

Although <grin> I've half considered a tat on the left side of my chest stating "Do Not Resuscitate," and have it signed and notarized.

Mrs. Cruzn and I have often wondered if we don't have "Stupid" tatted on our foreheads. This is usually immediately following a visit from one of our "adult" offspring. [biggrin]

Cruz...that's the problem with kids...they're not grown up yet, (no matter their age).

My dear old departed Grandfather used to tell me, "Some people...the older they get, the smarter they get....other people, the older they get, the older they get."

My Grampa used to say "I'm a BEAR!!!" Then he'd throw a handful of Bazooka Bubble Gum at us and run off around the corner.

Grampas are way cool. [biggrin]

I have serious doubts about that.

People "in the biz" are trying to convince you how great things are in the biz?

That would raise flags for me in any sort of transaction where the cost is paid by me and the result permanent.

[biggrin]

That's my experience - all my uncles from WWII who had tats that were distorted beyond recognition.

One had a naked lady that all the aunts didn't want me to see - and I couldn't make out anything bad....

And guys - well, okay. But all these little Princess types will be sporting sags/stretch marks in their artwork.

Two kids on the playground;

"My grandma has some snacks over there."

"Which one is your grandma?"

"My grandma is the one with all the b!tchin' tats..."

I also have a few thankfully minor unintended "marks" I wish I hadn't received.

I'm in the exact same boat.

I'm old enough now where I really don't get a rush of endorphins explaining the scars I've collected.

Even the coolest stories now seem a little stupid.

And piercings?

My God - how many times have I punctured myself in an alarming/spectacular fashion both at work or at play?

No thanks...

But hey' date=' you guys may be different because the industry has changed!!!

Yeah' date=' choose something meaningful to you. Sit on a design for a couple weeks and you still like it, go for it.[/quote']

I sat on a design for two years before I decided to get it....

I guess my advice is, if you need to ask what to get, you shouldn't get a tattoo yet....but i ain't here to judge so get a good idea and go with it! [biggrin]

Man... I goltta agree....I have enough ugly things on my body....don't need to add more...... And what happens when what you get tattooed goes out of style? How would you like to be the guy who tattooed Tiger Woods on his arm because he admired the golfer? I had an ex-BIL who had "The Bergie Man" tattooed on his arm..... I'll bet no one under 50 even knows who that is...but that poor sonofa***** has to have a cartoon character on his arm for the rest of his life!

The people who judge - they have a name for people like that.

Usually they are called employers.

Or prospective in-laws.

[lol]

Both are counting on your ability to exercise good judgment.

If you've given them plenty of reason to make a decision before you've even said a word, good luck to you.

[biggrin]

Exactly...i've seen a few of my friends get tattoos "off the wall in the shop" etc...something that looks cool and they end up disliking it later on.

I don't believe it has to MEAN anything to you either...should be something you like and will continue to like until you die....hehe..i hear laser removal is expensive! [biggrin]

Hopefully the OP was not offended by my note. If so, i apologize!
