HELLO EPIPHONE---PLEASE MAKE THE RIVIERA AGAIN

About 6 or 7 years ago, I got a new Riviera XII. (I'll post pictures of it when I figure out how to do it). You can't imagine how badly I wanted to own that guitar. I used to stop off at the music store on my way home from work 3 or 4 times a week, for weeks, til I'd saved up enough to buy it. (About 3 years ago, I also bought a 6 string version. I still have both.)

Yes' date=' I wanted a specific tone, and got it with an SD SM-2(neck) and an SM-1(bridge). BTW, Riviera's are still made, they're just a signature model, now, and equipped with P-94's instead of mini's. I know they've made models in the past with humbuckers, so its just a matter of time. And cherry always makes a comeback.[/quote']

It's the Nick Valensi Riviera that has the P-94's. I would get the guitar but I would rather buy a cherry one =D

Aside from the cosmetic differences (parallelogram inlays, finish choices, TRC, etc.), you could make yourself a Riviera by changing the pickups on a Dot to mini-hums and putting a Frequensator tailpiece (or a Bigsby) on instead of the stop tailpiece. Otherwise the construction is essentially the same. You'd need some sort of mounting adapter to fit the mini-hums into the larger full-size humbucker routs, but otherwise it would be a simple enough conversion.

I got mine during the MF blowout, best deal I ever made! Then came the Bigsby, also a black truss rod cover. I have to change out the tuners, the Bigsby added to much weight, and it's unbalanced. A nice set of Grover Rotomatic's should take care of that.

The Mini bucker's are some of the coolest pickups out there, twangy as hell too. They should have all their classic guitars available, like Gretsch does IMO...

I recently saw one for sale(second, but like new €450). I didn't know you wanted one. Unfortunately I'm in Europe, so with shipping it would have ended up steep anyway. Too bad we don't have a "sale" section.

I also slept thru the MF sale on Rivieras. I see them on the 'Bay all of the time, so I'm gearing up to buy one whenever the Bush sends over that free money check thing, if that even happens. Just wanna' do my part in helping the economy.. heh, heh..

Riviera owners.. Can you tell me what kind of necks they have? Is it closer to a Dot or a Sherri, or even a Casino? I did play one a few years ago, but don't recall the feel of the neck. And the one I tried had the full sized humbuckers, not the minis.

Damn! Always gassing over something! This forum is choking my wallet.

No, I did not change it because of string breakage. I changed the bridge because the saddles did not stay in place, the retainer clip did not do it's work. Also the whole bridge pivotted a bit when using then bigsby. So when I searched the web for info I found a roller bridge is often used with a bigsby. The one I got from StewMac is only $ 20,= .

The difference in tone is huge. With the new roller bridge a lot of the high frequencies (harmonics) are gone, but it doen't hurt the sustain. When I installed the roller bridge the first time I changed it back right away. After a few weeks I tried again. I must say that through an amp it now gives a better sound. I've noticed from recordings that I have a tendency to use to much treble and the new bridge compensates my preference a bit.
