I also like the casual, inclusive atmosphere of this forum. I'm 56, have been playing since '67 and HATE guitar snobs. This is why I like English guitar magazines. There isn't the guitar snobbery that permeates American magazines

Which (American) magazines are you talking about? Remember, at lot of them are

geared toward teens (their core demographic) and their writing styles, and lingo/attitudes reflect that.

But ones like Acoustic Guitar, or Vintage Guitar are better suited for more mature

discussion, usually...anyway. Tone Quest is another great "magazine" only it's more a news letter

and not really a magazine.

Cheers, and welcome to the forum, with it's warts, and all! LOL!

From the home office in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The top ten reasons the Epiphone forum is better than the Gibson forum-

Number 10- The smell of nitro finishes makes me woozy.

Number 9- The Epiphone forum has colder beer-

Number 8- The mods here can't read so I can say ANYTHING I want.

Number 7 - The complimentary continental breakfast.

Number 6- Funnier user names.

Number 5 - The spam is more entertaining here.

Number 4- More open dates for my flier miles-

Number 3 - Fewer experts mean I come across as smarter than I am.

Number 2- Chicks dig the underdogs-

and the number one reason the Epiphone forum is better than the Gibson forum....

No creepy guys asking me how long my tenon is...

...and Al's your uncle.

Number 11 - Epiphone's Les Pauls are 20% Paulsier

Number 12 - Gibson Forum has too much old man smell

Number 13 - No pink Gibson guitars

Number 14 - It's too easy to figure out where your guitar was made

Number 15 - No signature guitars named after old men (see #12)

Number 16 - Even BB King thinks you're a moron for buying a Gibson Lucille

Number 17 - I have two Epiphones named after a hotel where I first nailed a chick.

Number 18 - The Gibson Avatars looks like the obituary section of the news paper

Number 20 - Did the Beatles ever show their face on TV with a Gibson?

Uh, yeah!! George played a Gibson ES-345 on the Day Tripper film (precursor to Videos),

and a '64 SG Standard on the "Hey Bulldog" film, as well as his "Lucy" Les Paul Standard

(Goldtop refinished Red), on the "Revolution" (Single version) film, and in the "Let It Be" movie.

All of which were on TV at one time or another. ;>)

Doh! [-o<

I saw George with Gretsches, Epiphones, Rickenbackers, and even an acoustic (Hard Day's Night?), and I had read that he fiddled with Eric Clapton's Les Paul. But I thought he was devoted to (1) the twang of a Gretsch, (2) the hard edge of the Casino, and (3) the extra 6 strings of the Rickenbacker (didn't Rickenbacker give it to him gratis?).

Now I'm gonna be up all night trying to YouTube George with a Gibson.

George was quoted as saying the reason he bought the Gretshes was that he didn't know how to get a good guitar sound...search " Beatles Revolution" (re-finished '57 Gold Top) or "Hey Bulldog" ('64 SG Standard)...and from about 1970 George played Fender Strats a lot and his main acoustic was a custom Zematis (Tony Zematis-English luthier) that Dhani Harrison plays in "Concert For George"...and in "Let It Be" Harrison plays a Gibson J-200 on For You Blue"

yes, on their first American tour Rickenbacker tried to woo the Beatles and when George was too sick to go to the wooing Rickenbacker came to him and gave him the first Rickenbacker 360/12 while he was sick in bed. In 1965 a radio station gave George a second Rickenbacker 12 string and this story has often been confused that the radio station bought the first one. On the first occasion Paul was given a Rickenbacker bass but he left it behind at the wooing not seemingly impressed at first with it (or he just simply forgot it and left it there... I like Macca but he does strike me that he can be like a ditzy chick at times...)

Good point, Al. How could I have forgotten the J-160E (Since I own one, myself#-o)...and

George also used a J-200 in "Let It Be" as well. I didn't include the Casino's or Texan, because

I thought the question was about "Gibson" guitars (even though, at the time, Epiphone was made

in the same plant). Macca's Les Pauls and Byrdland & L-5, too...are later editions, technically, than the

"Beatles" years. But, you're quite right...he does use them, quite often, too.

I can understand the moderators' position on this. Once a forum reaches a certain size and there is a building of camaraderie among the membership, the topic begins to veer away from Epiphone Electrics, the raison-d'etre of this group. I was probably responsible for a thread or two being deleted. Now, I ask my self "Is this post Epiphone-Electric-Related" before I hit the post button.

Overall, that is the best position (the one of the moderators), or the signal/noise ratio will go way down, if you know what I mean.

Well, their choices of what to delete, and what to allow, leaves a lot to be desired.

Based on your thoughts, I would agree. But, some are allowed WAY OFF topic, and

nothing happens. Other's go only slightly (or, certainly no more so) off topic, and

"Swipe," it's gone! So, some logical consistency, would be helpful...IMHO.

"God Grant me the Serenity" is applicable here for me. I completely agree that consistency would certainly seem the fair way to proceed but I/we have no control over subjective rulers. They will act as they see fit. I for one will never be able to figure their reasoning for some of the locks/deletions and it gives me a headache to try. As long as they allow some wandering and allow us to get back on track, I can work with that. I will never understand their reasoning on some off topic allowances though. This is still the best thing out there IMHO.

Yeah, I agree...it's a great forum, for the most part! But "rules" have always

been a "problem" for me...WHEN, they are not the same for EVERYONE?! And,

that goes for EVERYWHERE, not just here. But...again, "that's just ME!" LOL!

But, I DO know how the world works, and...aside from getting a bit "cranky" about it,

now and then, I'll manage.
