Hope what I hear about the ELITIST is not true...

Just noticed your post. "Night of the Broken Glass" correct?

Weird reference but I get it I think.

Oh, it had to do with someone's Avatar and several postings with

a photo of Adolf Hitler behind a circle/slash sign. It was posted on

several topics, some of which had only that kind of response, so...

I just asked the question, in regards to that posting. I see they've

removed it, now...so, of course, my post makes no sense, at all. LOL!

But, that's "Rock & Roll!" ;>)

I sure wish Epiphone would come out and announce or denounce this "Elitist" rumor.

I know' date=' if they just let it be...they could sell off more of the stock, faster? But, it sure

would be nice to know, one way or the other? Doesn't seem like too much, to ask....

I know that some people would pony up the money to buy one or two of them knowing that they would quickly be gone. But instead of informing us when something is going to be discontinued, you have to just look at their site and notice that what was there before is now missing (like Elitist Dot in anything but natural, and Elitist Sheraton in anything but sunburst).

Yes I wish they would let us know what's going on. Or if they don't on their own forum then the moderator can put up a link to Harmony Central or something where they do the press releases promoting something new.

If I were Epiphone I would do the political thing and hide it in a new release blurb like on HC. They would announce the introdution of ................. fill in the blank and then mention at the bottom this will also be the last year we offer the Elitists in our current line to make way for other new items. We may review this and offer them again at some point in the future but now we need to tailor our production capacity to meet current demand...............

If the purported demise of the Elitist line is due to its cutting into Gibson sales, it would imply that a successful, well-made guitar was being discontinued because people preferred it over foundering Gibson offerings (which may simply be overpriced for the quality). I think that this is a mistake. If we compare a Japanese-made Toyota Camry to an American-made (and more expensive) Cadillac, I think some people want a Camry and some people want a Cadillac. If Toyota stopped making the Camry, I sure as well wouldn't pop for a Cadillac. I would buy a Honda. If they discontinue the Elitists, Elitist fans will probably buy similarly-priced non-Gibson guitars (like Eastman, Heritage, D'Angelico, Samick, Yamaha, and high end Ibanez, e.g., the John Scofield). I'm not willing to pay an additional $1,000 for the Gibson name on the headstock. If it weren't for their obsession with Bigsby tailpieces, I'd probably consider Gretsch.

The producing of low end Epiphones to Chinese factories is also ominous to me. I bought an Ibanez Artcore after reading a rave review in one of the US guitar mags. I was not impressed with the quality of it. In fact, I could not tell if the top was actually wood or a wood byproduct (no discernible grain under the thick poly). I donated it and another Ibanez to my church. To date, nobody in the church has played either one of them (I can't give these things away).

I bought my first Chinese-made Dell computer in November, 2007. It went through 3 motherboards before Dell replaced the entire computer. I bought a second Dell computer that sits under my desk. I use it when the main computer breaks down. Quality control is deplorable.

Got a Gretsch (3, in fact)...one '66 Country Gent (being restored), and two Duo-Jets! Love 'em all!

You can get a Duo-Jet with a standard (G) tailpiece...I.E. no bigsby. Several versions, as a matter of

fact...including (I believe) the "Black or White Penguin." I would think, you could simply either order

one of the archtops without a bigsby, or swap it out, for a "G" type tailpiece. Or, have a luthier

put in a Stop Bar. All kinds of options! So, that would be one alternative, to "Elitists." I just (truly)

hope Epi/Gibson ISN'T going to do away with the Elitist line! The biggest problem (around here, anyway)

I see...is that I DON'T see any, in the stores...save the few Casino's or Sheri's. But, even those are

more rare, than they should/need to be...IMHO, So...???

DOH!! Okay, I admit it...I have a Country Classic in brown, a Double Anniversary in bamboo yellow, and an Electromatic that looks like a Tennessee Rose!!! But given a choice, I'd rather have another Elitist instead of another Gretsch!!!!!

I still do covet a short scale burgundy Tennessee Rose, and I wish they made them like they did in the 60's (with painted f-holes).

Yeah miss both John and George big time. I remember thinking when I was a young lad "I wonder how music historians of the future look at the band?" I think they passed the audition.=D>

I'm basically addicted to the WiFi Beatles RU station when working on my PC. They have Beatles music as well as non-Beatles bands/soloists playing Beatles music. There is a rendition of "I am the Walrus" that is really over the top (I don't know the band), but their vocal accompaniment really shows me just what a masterpiece of overdubbing that song was.

Keep in mind that when George Martin first heard that song, he said something like "What in bloody hell am I supposed ot do with that!!!""

That was the great thing about George Martin he seemed to have figured it out pretty well. He was just like them but more modest I think he really enjoyed the challange of being pushed to the creative limit by them.

here's hoping i have enough room on my credit card if the elitists get blown out on musician's friend again. or ebay. though this is purely a want thing. all my current (and hopefully future) electric guitar needs are filled.

I think that this is a mistake.

I agree Jeffery. In the unlikely event I squirrel up enough coin to buy an Elitist which (by then) has been discontinued, I'd probably be looking at Edwards or Burny, not a Gibson.

I think those are the other models being sold by the Japanese ebayer (with the lacquer SG models).
