glennc
What's wrong with China? Howdy Artillery Owl, Personal choice not to support that government and it's policies. I don't believe this is a place that the mods would want us to strike up a litany of what I consider offenses by that government. I love the guitars, there are well made which makes it worse for me. At least PRS is sending their offshore jobs to South Korea which is an ally. glennc

Riffster
Is the Epiphone Casino Elitist made in China? I thought they were made in Japan. Not sure, they used to be. You can buy a used Epiphone too, mine is a 2006 Casino "Custom Shop" with a bigsby made in Korea. To me the Chinese Epiphones are well made now, not so much in the beginning but the materials do seem to be lower quality than the Korean made Epis used to be. I do not see anything wrong with expressing your opinion with your wallet. Your money, your choice.
glennc
Looks like you're getting a Gibson then. Howdy Artillery Owl, Tried that out and it didn't work. I purchased a Les Paul Studio faded, I had the unfortunate experience to run into three bad examples of the guitar and finally returned it for my money back. Luckily had saved up another couple hundred and found the made for GC guitar I first saw on this forum. It is a natural finished Les Paul Jr. with bound neck and P-90's and a gloss finish. It is amazing what a difference $200 can make. It is a beauty. Cheers glennc
BigKahune
Is the Epiphone Casino Elitist made in China? I thought they were made in Japan. Not sure, they used to be. ... Actually, I believe the Elitist Casino is made to very high specs in Japan, but assembled in America, and contains some American parts (pups). It's the only Elitist series guitar currently in production (the other Elitist were discontinued in 2008 - I think). It's like double the price of the regular Casino models. From the polluted drywall, to Black and Decker coffee maker, to most if not all the components in the computer I am typing on. The Manufacturing Company that I worked at for 16 years and helped them build from 30 to over a couple hundred employees around the world and #1 in the industry, sent the manufacturing to Taiwan. I can not stop it, but as you say I can express my opinion if given a chance with my money. I wish more people would address current conditions, in the same way. Take care. glennc

And yes the only Elitist model still in production is the Casino which is too bad. I have an Elitist Dot that plays better than my Gibson Les Paul So to answer your original question - I "think" the answer is no other than any mentioned. However, the best advice was the one about posting this question in the Epiphone forum - some of those guys know their stuff.

NeoConMan
What's wrong with China? I KNOW you're smarter than that - and I hope you weren't trolling... Glenn, I'm probably the most vocal in this forum as an opponent of buying Chinese gear. Anybody here can tell you I've had probably a dozen threads on the subject vaporized by the Mod Squad. Been suspended a few times over it. That's fine - getting people pissed off over the truth - I'll do it till the day I die. But here in the virtual world... Can't be too critical of Gibson's business decisions - it's their forum after all. Can't tell the TRUTH about Chinese trade because it's "political" and therefore taboo. Can't discuss the REAL differences between Epiphone (the official counterfeit Gibson) and the real thing. Epiphone owners get butt-hurt, pooch-lipped, and cry to the Mod Squad. With all that must remain unsaid here, I'm thinking we're very much on the same page. (Note Epi link in my signature...) B)
retrosurfer1959
What's wrong with China? What's not wrong with China? As to the question the high end Wilshire is made in the US Gibson Custom-shop. Basically it is a Gibson custom with the Epi logo.
Artie Owl
It's only a matter of time before it's no longer China that's the centre of everyone's ire, but Africa. But like it's been said this is no place to discuss politics of China. That being said I'm still looking forward to adding that Epi Nighthawk to my collection come this summer. I also apologize for blocking any reply via PM. As I stated I would like to hear your reply. How do I unblock it. I did delete it. If that is the problem, feel free to PM me to discuss the important IMO issue. I am not sure what the icons scared, crying and thumbdn are meant to imply, hope they are not insulting as I believe this is not a personal issue, and I hold no rancor to you for your point of view.
