Nice little primer on fingering notes behind the slide. I need to spend some time on this... Gorgeous guitar and gorgeous tone too.

  2. Happy 1st electric guitar ever day!

That's right, today in 1937 the first patents for the electric guitar were issued for the instrument that came to be known as the electric frying pan. Our world would be forever changed.

So I've wanted a Champ for a while - particularly a Vibro Champ. There have been tons of them at guitar shows but the clean ones were all pushing $600 the last coupla years. Seemed excessive to me.

I found one in a pawn today that was super clean. Played it and it sounds great. The vibrato is insanely deep. Sticker is $450 - which is more than fair - but since it's a pawn I do a little better. He said he'd take $375. I said I was thinking $350. We split the difference... $362.50. Today was a good day.

    Transformers date late '73 and early '74, so I reckon it's a '74.

So a few months ago I ordered a Roland Space Echo (RE-20) pedal for my "psych rock" setup. I wanted the spacey reverb drenched echoes that the old RE-210 Space Echo units had. Gotta say it was a disappointment. It crushed those sounds - instant Radiohead - but it had a very sterile digital artifact when engaged that I just could not get past. I tried. I gave it a few months... and I bailed.

As a replacement, I ordered this Catalinbread Belle Epoch this week. It sets out to emulate the old tape Maestro Echoplex units. I listened to a bunch of demos and was pretty impressed. Got it today, and I must say so far it crushes it! Sounds very warm. Most of the classic Echoplex sounds are easily dialed in. Instant Jimmy Page and Alex Lifeson repeats circa The Song Remains the Same film or Rush's All the World's a Stage album. Great stuff.

I also ordered a Moog expression pedal for the Keeley Monterey pedal I bought a few months back. It's the middle pedal on the floor in this shot. It controls the sweep of the Leslie, Uni-vibe, and wah sounds. Very handy.

Interestingly the model number of the expression pedal is EP-3... same as the old Echoplex the Belle Epoch sets out to emulate. So it's an EP-3 day at my house! Ima go back to gettin' my freak on with this rig now...

60 years ago today, Lennon and McCartney met for the first time at The Woolton Church Parish Fete where The Quarry Men were appearing.

There are a couple JMP-1s on Ebay at this time.
One has a bid of $675.00. There are two others that are selling for $799.00. Just thought you would like to know.

Thinking of swaping out a 12ax7 in my Fender Deluxe for a 12ay7.
Is it worth buying vintage? I saw some GE, Rayovack, and a Tungsol on ebay.
    What do you think Surfpup?
