  1. Guess I'm more of a traditionalist.... I like my sound holes in the front....round...... on a spruce top..... My J-50 is a 1975....but not played much (at all?) until I got it 2-1/2 years ago....now it's my daily player.... So I don't think I'll live long enough to wear out the frets on it ... and I rotate the other 5 acoustics, so their fret wear is minimal...and again, I don't think I'll be around long enough to wear any of them to the point where they need replacing. My luthier retired, so I don't think he'd be up to replacing frets now....so I'd need to find a new luthier around here.
  2. MY 1975 J-50 has a 2-piece back....just no binding between....I can't imagine a J-45 would be different.
  3. Glad you caught it when you did.... I never imagined I'd still be playing at my age. My best friend got diabetes..... eventually caused him to go 100% blind, and lost the feeling in his hands and feet. I asked him once if being blind was a total bummer....he said, yeah...but the worst thing is not being able to play guitar anymore!
  4. UGH! Our water heater is 75 gallons....so when it went out a couple of years ago, I just paid a plumber to replace it, (the original was installed when the house was built in1978). If I tried to do it, I would have ended up in the hospital!
  5. I never developed into a lead player either....but I can't blame smashing my fingers...I'm just lousy at it!
  6. I saw his photo and it stabbed my heart!
  7. Thanks....I think I'll try it. I've said many times (whined?) here that the arthritis started in my left thumb...maybe 7-8 years ago. it caused me to put down my guitar for maybe 6 months! I couldn't stand it....so I started playing again but doing what you did....taking 3 Motrin + 1 Tylenol before playing, (I wasn't gigging). After awhile, I realized there were chords I simply couldn't play anymore, so I learned to compensate. Over the years, the arthritis spread to my right thumb and right middle finger, (middle finger is the worst!), plus the middle finger on my left hand. Doctor said, "Your hands are simply worn out!". I use Voltaren on the backs of my hand....I have a prescription for the 1% stuff, but when I traveled in Europe, I bought 2%, and I get 3.5% from Mexico. Hands are still holding up, (I'll be 74 in August), but I can feel it each time I play!
  8. I got rid of all my 'toy' cars so I didn't have to spend so much time in the garage.... Hope you have some help putting on the toolbox.
  9. I actually visited this place when I was working in Amarillo! The plan was to keep his Caddy here until he 'reconfigured' his garage....but now they've decided to just move..... so it might be a few more months until I can get it out of my garage!
  10. 1968 (I think). He actually drives an Escalade and his wife drives a Cadillac SRX. His very first car was a Cadillac Seville, so he got to be known as a "Cadillac Guy" https://www.facebook.com/cameron.birdwell.5/videos/473012627618732
  11. Another rainy day in Northern California..... wasn't really gonna do anything outside today anyway. Working on an arrangement of a Doors song, but I only do that until the wife gets up....then I'll go sit with the dog in the family room. Our son relocated his old Cadillac into our garage, so my truck is now sitting outside....doesn't make me happy..... he's putting his house up for sale and plans to move soon into a bigger house, (they outgrew their house 2 kids ago). That's about it for a rainy Sunday around here.

  13. Not just photos....send a video....wanna hear it!
  14. As Hank would say.....I Like To Have (Guitars) I've Never Had!
  15. Well, I had to put up a patio umbrella over the grill because it was raining like crazy….but I got it done and the steaks were FABULOUS!
  16. It's raining today in Northern California....I was going to grill some fillets for the past 2 days, but was raining too hard in the evenings....I hope to get at them tonight. I've been retired almost 3 years now.... I can't tell people how great it is. I wasn't feeling all that well yesterday, so I'll go to the grocery store today, (normally Monday's are grocery store days). I've been playing my 'Bird 12-String all morning... putting an arrangement together of "Elusive Butterfly" a song basically about a guy who is stalking someone! Someone posted a video of Bob Lind playing it....I hadn't even thought about that song probably since Glen Campbell did a cover of it, (1968).
  17. Ben, I know the 'politically correct' terminology is now "little people", but when my son was a toddler, he called the "Pigeons"....and since we knew people who fit that description, it was sometimes 'uncomfortable'!
  18. Yes...of course you're right....and anyway the 'joke' was in the way the bot wrote the line, not the nonexistent aunt's kleptomania.....but a joke should never have to be explained.
  19. Dub... some folk CHOOSE to get offended by many things....I feel that's THEIR problem, not ours.
  20. That's a big problem in the world these days....Humor is vilified & Snowflakes get butt-hurt over almost anything...but.... since I don't take this forum seriously, I don't really give a flying fig what anyone thinks.
  21. It's worth whatever someone would pay for it. The price seems a little high...over $7K US....but depends on condition, sound, play-ability, and how available other 'Birds in the area are. The price does NOT seem 'out-of-line'....just high....but you can look for other examples online to see if there are any. If you aren't specifically looking for a pre-Norlin model, you can buy a brand new one for # $4K US.
  22. You mean she literally "takes" the test? How funny is that!
  23. I'd define Garth as the ultimate puke.... just totally insincere...and seems almost 'sissified' (is that an actual word?) I want my Rock 'N Roll idols to be hard-driving and blunt.....whether I agree with them or not. I couldn't be more opposite of Joan Baez.... but she's honest...and I LOVE her music and her personality.... Hard to describe.
