  1. Back in 1966, we did a show with Chuck Berry in San Francisco .... when the show was over our lead guitarist's 1963 Sunburst Strat was stolen from our van. He replaced it with a Gretsch Country Gentleman... but...I can't IMAGINE what that Strat is worth now!
  2. I think I've posted about my amps I've had restored before....I inherited my dad's 1970 Princeton Reverb amp....I had the chassis gone through, new speaker, new tubes and even a new electrical chord (my dad had spliced in an extension chord!). I didn't touch the exterior, I wanted it to look just like my dad left it! It's my 'go-to amp these days. At the same time, I had my 1971 Dual Showman Reverb amp restored. I bought it from a guy at work back in the early 70's.... was a wreck.... I covered it with vinyl top material from a car and 1957 Chevy silver seat cover grill cloth. (was just the amp, no speaker box). in the 1980's I bought a speaker box with two 15" no name speakers. I had the chassis gone through, new tubes, new Tolex, new Fender silver grill cloth on the amp, and put in two "new-old stock" 15" JBL's and new grill cloth on the speaker box. It's a 'kick-a$$ amp...but too danged big to move around!
  3. I know I overpaid, but between my master bath and kitchen refurbish, I spent a little over $1/3M! Heck, years ago, my roof cost over $40K! And I don't live in a mansion!
  4. Well....we know you don't live in California then!
  5. He seems like a good guy.... very interested in vintage instruments...hope he's a good businessman too.
  6. I had one for a while, sold it because it was uncomfortable for me.
  7. Oh, I'd LOVE to see Jinder live, (regarless of his 'bath' condition!
  8. Farns, whatever model Ford that is, we don't have that model here in the US.
  9. I was negotiating on a 1965 Porsche 356 Coupe.... was in fair condition....this was probably in 1972 or so..... I offered $1200..... guy wanted $1300....so I walked.....STUPID!
  10. I suspect you've owned more vehicles than I have..... but let me think... 1951 Cadillac 1960 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 1964 Ford Econoline (Band Truck) 1968 Volkswagen 1957 Volkswagen 1972 Datsun Pickup 1973 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1954 Rolls Royce 1973 Camaro 1976 Cadillac Seville 1952 Rolls Royce 1976 Chevrolet Van 1958 Rolls Royce 1988 GMC Van 1972 Jaguar XJ-S 1974 Mercedes 450-SL 2004 Honda CR-V (Still Have) 2003 Winnebago Class A Motor Home (Still Have) 2004 Ford Ranger (Still Have) If there were others, I don't recall them.
  11. My dad was a 'shade-tree mechanic'.... so his cars always 'ran'....but they weren't always 'fixed'. While I worked on the assembly line at Peterbilt for about a year...(then drafted for 2 years....then back to the assembly line for like 6 months....then went into management)... my automotive skills (if you want to call them that) came from what my dad taught me, and what I observed on the assembly line at Peterbilt, MACK & GILLIG. My real 'education' came from owning 3 Rolls Royces and a Jaguar....spent EVERY evening in the garage with them. Changed clutches, rear ends, even rebuilt an engine in my garage, (with help).
  12. When I was working I only bought Fords for my guys. Was Rangers until they quit making them for the US, then Ford F-150's. It's a good truck. Had one rear-ended...truck was nearly new..... wasn't a bad hit, but it bent the aluminum frame....so it got scrapped. The guy's insurance paid for me to by the guy a brand new truck. I don't know what they did with the original F-150... looked almost perfect from outside.
  13. We used to LOVE to go see "SMOKIN" Guitar Players" anyway!
  14. Great post! I am (was) truly a 'car-guy'....worked in the automotive field for over 53 years. I toured the Ford Plant (Milpitas, CA) and the GM Plant (Fremont, CA). Worked for Peterbilt Motors (Newark, Ca), and of course GILLIG Bus (Hayward & Livermore, CA). My dad was a Mopar guy...but I was always a GM guy...until GM became the "New GM" and screwed it's common stock holders out of EVERYTHING.... Now a Ford guy....but I don't drive all that much, and have no 'toy' cars anymore.
  15. Best of all was the year-model change..... when the 1956 Chevy came out....we all looked to see the differences between it and the '55....and did the same for the '57 vs '56....and so on.....
  16. I have a 2010 'Bird.... same issue with the colors on the guard fading..... I wish it didn't, but it doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it. I also have a 2011 Custom Koa 'Bird.... that pickguard will never wear off.
  17. In the old days we used to call this "Mojo". Since I grew up in a time when people smoked everywhere, I guess everyone was just used to that smell. I HATE cigarette smoke and smell now...but my dad used to finish off his dinner with a cig, (he rolled his own) every night.... smoked in the car...people smoked on airplanes..... I go with what Murph says....it'll fade....
  18. When I was a kid, we had an uncle.... a bit overweight.... wore his pants low and his shirt untucked...so his....um.....er.....ah...."Male Cleavage" was always showing. So, still today, any member of my family recognizes IMMEDIATELY what we mean when someone says "His Clifford is showing!"
  19. Yeah.... pretty expensive..... just a regular drive-through wash, (with wax included), then 3-4 guys detail it after....that's it!
  20. Just waitin' for in invite!
  21. Yes. there are SO MANY things I can no longer do....luckily, I still have the means to hire people to do all the things I can no longer accomplish. Speaking of which..... I just paid $40 to have my wife's car washed.... then a tip on top of that! I used to own 7 cars.... washed them all AT LEAST once a week!
  22. I always say Age is relative..... that means, if all your relatives are old, chances are you are too.
  23. I grew up in Fremont....so spending time at the Drag Strip was pretty normal, (and also means something COMPLETELY different today!)....especially on Friday nights for the grudge racing! We also had a place we called "Little Fremont"...was a dead-end street that was maybe 2 miles long....there was a 1/4 mile 'strip' marked off at the very end, so we could see any cops coming LONG before they got there.....(doesn't mean they weren't regular 'visitors'!). We started showing Pugs in 1995..... we owned and bred probably a couple dozen champions, (our foundation dog is a "ROM2", which means he sired 18 champions). I became a judge in 2009 and my wife became one a few years later. We are the people who put on WOOFSTOCK, (I do the music, of course). I'm talking with our panel of judges right now to prepare the songs to play when they're judging Groups. This year our Best In Show presenter is Craig Chaquico, lead guitarist for Jefferson Starship, (which is this year's theme). I'm working with him to determine which of HIS SONGS he wants me to play when he presents the Best In Show trophy!
  24. I know what you mean....when I was single (back when men lived in caves).... my drink of choice was Wild Turkey over ice.... got hammered a few times on that! When I started going out with my wife, she said when I drank Wild Turkey, I turned into one....now, no whiskey or bourbon at all... gin now....and not very much.
