  1. Got to remember. Gibson builds guitars for dealers as well. This could be one of those. Back in the 90s , I seen more than two flavors of SJs as well. Ones that were not even in the catalogs.
  2. there is alot of things to talk about. And ya. You will get different opinions from different people. Like me for example. I dont want to come across the negative way. But everyone is entitled to opinions of there own. So never take it as being aimed at you. Its the item in question. Ive owned enough of the new ones , to have my take on a guitar. Unless Im not familiar with where they got there ideas from. There will always be a answer.
  3. I bet it was formated from this guitar. I bet Mr Mark had something to do with this as well. So it could be correct .
  4. Looks like they threw that one together. Belly bottom bridge. No different than the standard run banner 45 from the 90s. Ive also seen labels from j200s on 45s. Nothing new there in the mistakes. also the store owner should of reviewed the guitar and his vid prior to posting. That would be a error at times that could be costly When a store owner does not know what he has.
  5. Savour the history of our past as you know it. Its diminishing quickly.
  6. Is there a pickup in the saddle slot? Yours is not the first guitar. I had a j35 here where the saddle leaned forward. It should be snug in the slot. The saddle should be deeper in the slot that what sticks up on the top of the bridge.
  7. Ya it has me stumped. I can ask a insider. He will know. The SP could stand for special run. For a dealer like Guitar center. the made so many different models back then for dealers. We never seen most of those up here.
  8. Did you know that some of the early 60s Hummingbirds were Maple back and sides as well. Fairly Rare to find one.
  9. They as in Gibson Montana did small batches of there guitars. Eg Montana specials , so on. Sometimes a dealer would request 12 guitars each one a little different from the other. Alot of that was devoted to highend dealers that had high Gibson acoustic sales. Its the right time frame for the Custom shop. But those would of been floor run guitars. I had a Maple bird just like yours given to me from John Walker one night when Ren, John and a few others were sipping on a few playing Foozeball. Excellent evening.
  10. Why do you think its a fake?
  11. You must not be talking to the right people. I dont think Ive ever played a dead Gibson or a Dud. And Ive owned many over the years. Ive many tell me they dont have that tone of a Martin. Well there not Martins. Your J45 TV is a fine guitar. They have a place in everyones collection or music. on another Note. Rosewood j200. They have alot of voice I have a few and I like those very much . I own a Rosewood SJ banner from the 90s great guitar.
  12. ya. That skimpy neck. Mine has that. Its just like playing my 68 Strats. The neck feels the same. That had me thinking if thats why Gibson went that direction. When I play both totally different guitars they have that same Neck feel. I know once you play one of those. Its hard getting the fingers to adjust to the wider Nut guitars.
  13. Are you able to upload a picture of the SJ? Im not sure if the 4 piece top would quailfy as a 2nd. It could though. Or it just could of been a flaw in the finish at the time. Ive owned may 66 , 67 SJ Gibsons and still have a 67. They all have Had a two piece top.
  14. I know what you are saying. I agree. I do know up here in Canada. Those little mis steps on Gibsons part never get back to them .
  15. If it was me , I would not send it back. When its due for its next setup. Get the luthier to round it off. Or just leave it for conversation. Nice guitar though.
  16. That spec of black was put there to round off the nut which was not done.
  17. I cancelled all mine I ordered. They say the price will vary on Gibsons part and the dollar exchange. So no thank you. Ill stick to what I have. Two of those were already 8000 .00 cdn each. Not this cat.
  18. Those got adhesive on the back or did those slide under the sound hole ring?
  19. the sound hole ring was removable , as well some of these had a clear guard .
  20. They actually gave you three saddles with each mk series guitar for play height. these had fan bracing much like a classical guitar . Or the kasha Ovation there was the 35, 53, 72 . And 81 and a bowtie version 99 5 models
  21. Vintage original Strats, L5ces, Vintage original Les Paul burst. Other than that all the rest are acoustic Gibsons, Martins.
  22. The J60 was also advanced braced like the AJ . I had a couple of those early ones over the years. They were suppose to be comparable to the HD28. They are a nice guitar. Back in the 90s they also made a maple version. Part of the Montana specials line up.
