When I started playing clubs at 14, my mom made me wear ear plugs, and I'm glad she did. It just became habit to always wear them. Now with IEM's and electronic drums, nothing is loud.
  2. When I need to play lead on an acoustic I break out my Gibby Bluesking EC30. Plays like butter.
  3. I have 12 acoustic guitars and my favorite is my 1990 J-160E.
  4. Well no duh the joint is at the 16th fret. I just didn't have that option with the components I was working with so I made well with what I had, and for a total of about $800 I'm gonna have a nice playing and sounding geetar when it's all done. And really dude you're not the final approval on projects or what is good or not good. .... I'm happy and that's all that counts.
  5. Looks fine to me considering what needed to be done to keep the fretboard end from imposing on the neck pickup cavity. It's comfortable and nobody is going to see it, unless I decide to pull a Jimi Hendrix and play with my teeth. Plus I've seen some of those PRS neck joints from hell that were done on purpose..... What I did was done out of necessity to fit a 1982 Gibson neck on a 59 spec Les Paul body.......... I'm pleased so far.
  6. The first coat when spray nitro is a mist coat. I found it helps the subsequent coats from running. i dunno man.... it works for me. lol
  7. Got the paint tent set up and removed the nut and laid down 2.5 coats of nitro clear. Only 12 more coats to go.
  8. Don't get me wrong, I think Slash is great, but I could have laid down a better solo than that one. I would have let some of the phrasing breathe a little more, rather than the constant playing of 16th notes of pentatonic scales.
  9. I thought Slash's lead work was better in GNR. I think a better solo could have been laid down... something with a little more phrasing. Sounds a bit plucky is some areas.
  10. Cool playing ... To me it sounds a lot like George Harrison on the White Album.
  11. Finishing up Invisible Strings by Taylor Swift
  12. As long as it stays in tune I'm good.....
  13. Stained the back and cleaned the guitar up a bit... gonna wait a few days then hit it with nitro clear.
  14. 😄 If they did give free samples I would be planted at every See's Candy shop and I would get nothing done. My personal favorites are the dark chocolate molasses chips.... I think I may have muncheed myself into insulin shock a few times with those suckers.
  15. The headstock and "neck heel from hell" stingers are painted. Now for some cleanup work and the stain for the body and neck.
  16. I dig the tune Black Coffee.
  17. Tman So sorry about your sweeter half, I can't even begin to imagine. Glad your finding some healing through playing, what I have learn is we all grieve in different ways. But glad to hear you are seeing some light.... And it's okay to be depressed, moody and anxious during your time of transition...... all perfectly normal.
  18. This weekend I finished painting the headstock stinger and started on the neck heel stinger. Interesting thing when painting over a porous medium like mahogany it takes patience and quite a few coats of nitro. As you can see on the neck heel that is 2.5 coats of nitro and the pores are very visible even with two passes of Timbermate wood filler prior to painting. I'm finding I'm needing 7 coats.
  19. "Chibson" implies fakes from China. The two components I'm working with are a neck from the Gibson Kalamazoo Factory in Michigan that was originally attached on a 1982 30th anniversary Les Paul that needed some work when the headstock was snapped in two. The body is also a product of Michigan as well from a well renown Luthier I never heard of... lol. As for me giving Gibson a run for their money.... I highly doubt it.... Every Gibson I own (and I have many) are outstanding instruments. All I'm doing is trying to get two components to work together, and so far everything seems to be working out. As for dubbing it anything, maybe a FrakenGib would be something I would consider.
  20. that's a nice one How much?
  21. I play bass left handed and guitar right handed. I can throw in both arms and I can right with both hands...... But I can never find anything after I put it down somewhere... lol..
  22. I drilled the ground wire hole from volume/tone cavity to the tailpiece holes and presses in the anchors. Glued the neck to the body and clamped yesterday. I checked the neck angle and it reads at 4.3 degrees so I think I'm okay....... will see. I have a bit of finishing work to the back of the neck and the body. Seal and sand the neck pours. Position and Drill / Tap the ABR1 bridge post holes. Sand the headstock overlay level Tape off the back of the headstock and neck heel for a black stinger design to hide some of the madness... lol. Stain the headstock overlay black. Stain the body and neck a medium brown. Spray sanding seal on the stained areas only then sand with 1000. Clean 10-12 coats of Nitro Gloss Lacquer.
  23. Gracias I've always watched your projects with great interest.... It was an education for me. I could have taken the easy route and had a neck made after finding out when I received the body the Gibby neck was going to need some major modification.... But so far everything is moving along pretty smooth.... I recommend taking a Luthier class..... I know when I took mine at the Fret House it was an eye opening experience. It was the best $600 and two weeks I've invested towards guitar playing.
  24. I shaped the "tenon extender" then glued it on the neck tenon then when the glue was dry enough I test fit and it worked. The fit is pretty snug, so I might do a little bit more sanding to give me a tad more clearance for the glue when I mate the body and neck together tonight.
