  1. What are the '61 Zebras like?
  2. I usually set them up to my liking and then leave them. Unless I change string gauge/tuning.
  3. So THAT's what they were doing.
  4. He must've sped up the video times ten.
  5. If you can get old fret glue out, surely you can get old oil out too? Or am I missing something...?
  6. Mm. I didn't splash it on in buckets, but I guess I let it sit too long. It did significantly alter the color of the fretboard though. Hopefully just the once will be all right.
  7. There's porn on the internet?
  8. Earthy, vintage PAF tones, I'll bet. Asparagus Rex would rather have the 19k. Or 1k.
  9. Check this out, should clean out any gunk when re-fretting: https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/types-of-tools/chisels-and-knives/fret-slot-cleaning-tool/Reviews/Page5.html#reviews Guess I should do something more productive than overthink. There's this one spot that... and blah blah... maybe wait til there's a problem before addressing it...
  10. Wait a minute... Gibsons don't come with the frets glued in? I admit total ignorance here.
  11. Oh, I can do that all by myself! It's not like I scraped out the glue in the fret slot. Need another vacation...
  12. Nah, the fret seems fine. I have a tendency to overthink things at times, I guess. Too much stress all round right now 😕
  13. Some of the gunk I thought was left over, I could scrape off with just my fingernail. Just at one spot. Now I'm concerned it was glue from the fret gluing... there's still gotta be enough glue left under the fret and in the fret slot, right... this was like on the fingerboard just next to the fret, miniscule amount. Need I worry? OCD is a WONDERFUL ****ing thing.
  14. Hey man. Long time! Sweet looking guitar. To put it mildly.
  15. I checked the guitar where I'd let the oil sit. Long story short, I just spent an hour removing gunk from the side of the frets with Gorgomyte. OTOH, I took a look at a guitar where I'd just it on last fall, let it sit for a few minutes and "worked dirt and grime free" as per the instructions. Upon close inspection, same thing. Unless Gibson glue is green. On yet another hand - my 2017 Tribute came with a pretty dry-looking fretboard, which didn't change with the annual oilings. Now, it's significantly darker - it looks healthy for the first time. Regool is right, as is Kidblast. Letting it sit for five seconds won't hydrate a piece of wood. OTOH, letting it sit for 30 mins may eventually fook up frets. So letting it sit for 30 mins should only be done if the wood actually looks thirsty and downright miserable. If it's been through ten Swedish winters or so, in my case.
  16. Gorgomyte is awesome. Highly recommended.
  17. Hopefully the frets on the LP I oiled stays on then... Previously I didn't let it sit long, but this year I thought, hell, rosewood can't absorb oil in five minutes. 30 minutes and the fretboard, which has always been light, was considerably darker. Guess it's a trade-off...
  18. Let the oil sit for how long?
  19. Lemon oil is mineral oil, which is good for hydrating wood AFAIK.
  20. I read someplace recently that oil would take about 30 min to absorb. Isn't the point to get the wood to absorb the oil? 😕
  21. It's why I'm not a "peace type ". They're never at peace.
