onewilyfool
I know a lot of us have both brands of acoustic guitars….I've often wondered what would happen if the acoustic divisions of the companies merged, or if one company bought the other?? For instance, if Martin bought Gibson, I'm sure Gibson would take a very interesting change of direction. Likewise, if Gibson bought Martin, how would Martin change? Or to put it more simplistically , if a Martin Acoustic Guitar and Gibson Acoustic guitar mated, what would the offspring look like???
BluesKing777
Well, it could be called a Gibtin or a Martson....... With the new HDJ45V-Authentic/Legend! BluesKing777
RichG
From a business perspective if one bought the other the right thing to do would be to continue both brands and hope for some economy of scale with regard to purchasing and distribution. At least for the first several years. Then the new company could acquire other brands like Guild and the conglomerate could be called "General Guitars". Then it could be deemed by our government "too big to fail" and get bail out money.

capmaster
Martin+Gibson Oil and water do not mix Emulsifiers can't do everything, and they always create just a metastable phase able to exist for a certain period.
