BobF_
Thank you very much, Bob. The appearance of the purple LP in mid-2013, virtually as an NOS guitar, at a small dealer is a mystery to me. They were gone everywhere else, it was the last one on the whole web I found for sale, still brand-new, but when I saw her she was lost. I don't have many informations on this model, there was no appearance on the Gibson webpage ever. Don't know how many were made, too, but they made them in different colours. It seems to be a late 2011 limited guitar predating all the other LPs with the Modern Weight Relief, and there are just a few I found in other fora. Fortunately, other manufacturers make pretty purple guitars, too. It's sure a beauty and the fact that it's rare makes even more special. Any time you want to trade even for a 2014 Studio Pro in Fireburst Candy, just let me know
casey_vee
Couldn't predict about their tones, but I'd prefer covered humbuckers in LPs, too. I used to prefer open coils but I feel like the covered ones look way better as my tastes have changed.

Any time you want to trade even for a 2014 Studio Pro in Fireburst Candy, just let me know Apart from being rare, she has a very distinctive tone and plays like a dream. So I guess either no one seriously interested had looked for her, or those who saw her didn't like the look. One can never know. As for me, I felt lucky when I found her. I admit that never before and thereafter a guitar's look thrilled me more.
capmaster
I used to prefer open coils but I feel like the covered ones look way better as my tastes have changed. I have always been a fan of covers but left the few guitars of mine with open coil PUs stock though. As an example, I feel that swapping them in a Frank Zappa "Roxy" SG would be a sacrilege. I like open coils for medium gain stuff and some gnarly pinch harmonics, but I'm mostly high gain with this particular guitar, so they don't have to be open. cody78
I posted on the other LP thread, but here's a different pic of 3 of mine. I've also got a Studio, Special & a Junior. (Apologies, not the best pics, but I took the photos quickly a while ago!) Also, here's my 'new' used 2008 Melody Maker - not strictly a Les Paul as they dropped the name just before they came out back in the late 50's, but it's the same shape! nitrocat98
I love those dark bursts I do too Bob! The pictures don't really do them justice. When I saw and played the Honeyburst, (second pic), I fell in love. So flamey So many great guitars, up until 2015 :), never enough money... nitrocat98
These are definitely awesome beauties. Gorgeous tops, mate! Thanks Cap! You Have some pretty darned sweet guitars yourself! That purple just screams, look at me. The problem I had was not being able to decide which finish I liked the best, so I got all 3 lol. Have a couple others I haven't taken pictures of yet. I really want a '59 re issue, and since I WON'T be buying a 2015 model...I guess this is a good time to save for one :)

Searching for one I found these links, an old and an actual one each on the same item. The latest one says $2k or best offer: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2011-Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-Royal-Purple-Quilt-Top-Limited-Run-USA-/300999863720 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2011-Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-Royal-Purple-Quilt-Top-Limited-Run-USA-/301006523639? The only things not looking stock to me are the pot knobs. They came with golden Top Hats - see here: http://platinum.guitarcenter.com/Guitars/view_listing.cfm?prodId=20170&subCat=51 Said to be a Guitar Center exclusive with just 30 items per colour I still wonder how one of these made it to a small but doubtlessly very reputable dealer here in Germany. capmaster
Maybe it was a trade-in from one bought in the states? I don't believe that the related dealer would have sold her as new then. Registering my purchase at the Gibson Support worked fine, too, so I think everything is OK about her.
