Rest in peace, Mr. Garcia.

Funny, but I never once thought of the Grateful Dead as a rock band.

Extended jam/ country shuffle/ boogie / psychedelic music combo, yes.
But not 'rock' as in how I came to know rock.

But what do I know?
😐

Same with Elvis, was he really rock and roll after he came back form the Army. Yet he has the title of the King of it.

Very good point!!

Yes, he was a pioneer of the early American rock and roll, as we came to know rock and roll.
He and Chuck Berry certainly.
Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis.

But you are right.
His music after the Army was mainly film scores and pop nonsense.

Now.
In The Ghetto?
And Suspicious Minds as well?

Powerful songs.
But not rockers.

So we are in agreement, sir.
😐

Suspicious Minds is my favorite Elvis song.

Growing up with the Warlocks in Palo Alto , going to Brown's Music seeing Jerry and Bobby working there ..  Magical days .. RIP Capt. Trips

I grew up in SJ and didn't start seeing The Dead (never would I go see Dead And Co.) until '95. Living in California they came to me. And they lived there. Saw them in Mountain View, Oakland, SF, Sacto, Irvine, and once in Chicago when I was a squid.

I was never a fan . . .

Let the beatings commence!

LOL,  I completely understand why people aren't fans. Hell, I was / am & I quit going to see them because they were playing like crap ...

I love the older Dead shows, with Pigpen. late 60's are my favorites.  after Pig passed away, I liked they're work up to n including Terrapin Station. after that something just wasn't the same ...

I can’t stand Garth, Taylor Swift, and Jimmy Buffett, so just more Dead for us that do.

Oh, and Phish is right out too. Go get a job stinky fake hippy.

Sadly August 9th in ‘95 Jerry passed away. The kicker was he was in rehab. I remember coming home from work and turning on the TV and they were talking about him. I knew without hearing one word he was gone.

And I absolutely despise Springsteen. Great band but his singing and playing are terrible. I can't even stand looking at him.

I rocked Workingman’s Dead earlier. One of their best. Wake Of The Flood is 50 years old this year, another great one. Probably my #2.

Those are standout albums for me too. Wake of the Flood is for deadheads. I cant imagine any casual listeners 'getting it'.

Fallout from the Phil Zone is a favourite of mine too. It has my favourite version of Hard to Handle on it. I've known it for years before FFTPZ and its a taper's recording. You cant hear the drums on it at all, but it rocks.

Later the band's recording of that gig was discovered and put out on a 'Road Trips' cd. Finally we get the drums. Its funny, but I still prefer the taper's one.
