Thundergod
He doesn't get much love around here, but he is one of the greatest guitarists of all times.
Wally Walrus
This guy is very funny and unique. As far as I remember he was a guy who insisted to play sitting down. And if you look at him doing vibrato you can see that he does it like some jazzists do, without bending the strings up and down but kinda sliding the finger inside the fret. He's attitude here is also gentle.
daveinspain
Wow Thunder I had no idea you were into Fripp.... I was a huge King Crimson fan and I saw Mr. Fripp do Fripatronics live at a Tower Records store in Los Angeles. He signed a few LP's for me too, albums not Les Pauls.... Cruznolfart
Thanks for the post, TG, I've never seen/heard Fripp. I think I'd have to hear him do some more conventional styles before I could form an opinion of his playing, as this particular demonstration was a bit specialized. I must be getting to the "anachronism" stage of life...I gotta have some rhythm in my music. That piece seemed kinda spacey, like Harrison's "Wonder Wall" from '69 or so. Duende
Cheers to that Thunder and thanks for sharing. People like Fripp, Allan Holdsworth and the guy I posted recently Roy Marchbank, keep me inspired in using my imagination when writing for the electric guitar. DrJustice
That's cool. I dig King Crimson, and Fripp/Frippertronics is just cool! @ Cruznolfart : Fripp / King Crimson don't really do 'conventional' (whatever that is), being sort of beyond progressive... Here's a video of a couple of well known Crimson tunes with both Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew on stage. Belew is stealing the limelight here I guess. I fear it's not going to go well down with the blues/rock crew though : DJ --
Cruznolfart
Thanks, Dr. Justice, I appreciate the edification. And, I also fear, you're quite right with respect to its not going down well. But, again, I'm a bit the anachronism, myself, so don't quote me. And, while "conventional" might be a bit elusive as far as a musical definition goes, I think it's probably safe to say that Frippertronics would qualify as unconventional. saturn
I liked it. Kinda sounded like he was jammin with Zamfir. Didn't he recently have this band of about 10 guitarists who would all sit in a circle and play? I should Google it, but it's easier type all this out here
retrosurfer1959
Gotta love King Crimson and Fripp. King Crimson is what made me get into the Chapman stick.
surfpup
Count me as a fan. One of the few records my dad had that I actually liked was King Crimson's Court of the Crimson King. Later, in college, Beat was one of my favorite records.... I still have no idea how they made these sounds...
