Of all the suggestions within this thread' date=' IMO this one is by far the best one[cool']

Amen brother. I've about had my fill of GC and their employees who, when asked about the specs of a certain guitar, simply state, "It ROCKS."

At my local GC, they have no clue. Frustrating. And there are guitars on the wall that are broken! Gosh, I hate that!

You have got to be kidding me.... I went to GC the other day, picked up an Epi Dot, and go to plug it in, and for some reason, something seems wrong....

Look at it, and there is NO input jack

[lol] [lol]

I go up to a 'certified sales specialist' and go "for some reason, this guitar won't work..." He takes a look and says it is probably a bad cable. hands me a new one, and I say again, "I don't think this will work, there is no input jack". He looks at me, then the guitar, and then proceeds to tell me that he thinks he can get me a good deal on it... :-s

Gee...seems like that would be something it needs!

Should have taken a pic of it...then asked if the pickups were tested to make sure they worked.....

I just have to reply to this great thread.

I have always wanted a Gibson guitar because most of my guitar heroes used them. When I was able to afford the real deal I started amassing my collection. I don't know if I got lucky or not but I purchased 2 Gibson guitars over the internet, one from GC (again, because it was an exclusive) and one from Sweetwater (which I would buy from again) and they were all pretty much perfect. The rest I bought locally and was able to try out and weed thru the turds to find the one diamond. I always wondered why it took me looking at 4-6 Gibson guitars to find the one that didn't have a finish flaw, or something else wrong with it that the guitar honestly should have never left the factory.

Well, my luck finally changed. I ordered a Custom Shop Gibson guitar. You probably saw my post, the R7 Blackwidow, limited edition 1 of 25. Again, it was not like I could go down to my local shop and try this guitar out. I figured that at $4160 USD and being from Gibson Custom Shop that this would be the best they had to offer. I am a woodworker by hobby and I have built a lot of furniture in my time. I have sold complete bedroom suites of my work and I know what it takes to make and sell a good product that you would be proud to put your name on. Well, this guitar I would be embarrassed to put my name on. When you look at the guitar you notice the amazing maple quilt top. It looks like a beautiful guitar. But upon closer inspection you see that behind the style is a amazing lack of substance. The woodwork on this guitar is pathetic. Who ever did the sanding of the guitar must have did a number with his sander on the edges. The edges of the guitar are like a serrated knife edge is the best way I can describe it. The neck strap button was put in on an angle and the other strap button you can just pull out of the guitar. When you open up the back plate you can stick a ruler inside the chambered body and it disappears 6" one way and 8" the other way. No wonder the strap button doesn't have anything to attach to, there is no wood in there. There are just so many little things wrong with this guitar that you wonder if this was built on a Friday of a long weekend. There is no care or pride built into this instrument.

Up until this point I was happy with Gibson overall. But this one bad guitar has put such a bad taste in my mouth that all the good will built up in 5 good guitars has been ruined by 1 bad guitar. It is shameful that this guitar even left the factory like this. And even the retailer should be ashamed to even put this up for sale. This product should have never been sold, period.

Unfortunately no one in Gibson will see this post, or even if they did, do anything about it. Because for every customer they lose because of incidents like this there seems to be more to take my place.

Isn't it Odd...that some stories on here (DeVinci's, for one) sound very much like what has been

leveled, at "Chinese" made Epiphones, or even "Fakes," from time to time. And, at 10 to 15 times

the cost, in his case...that's....well, unforgivable! I don't blame Gibson workers, really...but the

business climate, and (middle and upper) management, that allows that, to happen. American

workers can, and will, build Anything, as well as any one else. IF, they're allowed, or the pride

and incentive, is still alive. Unfortunately, from what we've read, that seems to be in short supply,

at Gibson? That is truly (IMHO) a tragedy!! Maybe the "Thowaway" and "Fix it, with a new one,"

mentality, has taken over, there, as well? I really HOPE not, and that this is just a "bad" period,

they're going through? But...something sure needs to be addressed, and soon...it would appear.

Hey CB

I have a local store near me and are great bunch of playing musicians that

work there. The only way they get the Gibson is like Neo say's pay out the

*** and buy more Epi's then they would like. They have 3 small stores in smaller

towns that they combine to get the guitars just to get a few Gibsons. They have

a ton of Epi's but said the said the PRS SE's out sell them 3 to 1 due to the better

quality. Like I said before they need to get back to the small stores because they

all have Fender' date=' PRS, and other guitars. People in the area's where there are no

GC's buy other brands. In the small town I grew up in we had 2 small music stores

and they both sold Gibson. Now you have to drive 4 hours to get one. Funny they

still have Fender, PRS and the others so what do you think people are buying.

Yeah, CW...I understand. I think E.M. Shorts (for example) can keep the kind of Gibson stock

they do, because they are just a division, of a larger Musical Instrument Dealer...

"Wichita Band, and Instrument," Inc. I'm sure they do a good business, in guitars, but a

much more lucrative business, in "Band" instruments, Classical, Orchestral, and marching

band, for the local and area School systems, as well as what they sell (in all categories),

on the Web.

Nathan... et al...

Seriously, if that "certified specialist" guy couldn't notice there was no input plug until you pointed it out to him, that's more of an anti store chain thing. Your pix - tell me if I'm wrong" looks as if there had been an input, but possibly loose and certainly bumped inside the guitar.

What the heck, I mighta tried for the "deal" myself after a little inspection. Something "with such a terrible, horrible problem" might be a wonderful brand new and warranteed $250 Epi. <chortle>

The nut and the washer just fell off the jack. Get the deal on the guitar, fish the jack out of the body put a new washer and nut on it and it's probably good to go. I had my Casino for a couple of years before it happened to me and I figured out that you have to check the jack every so often.
