Don't want to take this thread in a different direction' date=' but from those of you listing an Epi Valve Junior, what are your opinions of them?[/quote']

I had one, out of the box it was okay, but I bought it to modify it. I put a Hammond 125DSE in it and swapped out some caps, resistors and tubes and Marshallized it. I sounded pretty good when I was done with it. I eventually sold it cause I had 5 other amps and I wanted to get another guitar. I bought mine when they were still $99, and for $99 you couldn't go wrong. I had the head version.

LP Custom, '57 Junior, Dot.

Compressor, chorus, slap echo, ultra metal and D+/DS1/RAT pedals.

IMO the Valve Juniors and other GA5 style 5W amps are a hoot.

I have one at home, not an Epiphone but totally worth the 99 EUR I paid for it.

BTW I'm currently looking for a new (maybe used) Shure 55SH to replace a SM58 for vocals,

should someone have one extra...

Hey Biff and others.

My little brother has an amp identical to this one:

Is this a Gibson GA-5?

I told him that I'd seen this one on ebay go for almost $500,and he said if I'd give him close to that it could be mine.

Should have told him it went cheaper LOL

Guitars: '98 Gibson Smartwood LP (supposedly Curupaya wood on top, but looks like something else),

'05 (I think) Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard (the Twisted Sister model),

'84 Greco JS-68 Les Paul Custom (the John Sykes type),

'03 Epi Les Paul Classic Amber Quilt Top,

'97 Sheraton II (Samick) in natural blonde,

'94 Sheraton II (Samick) in Vintage Sun Burst,

'03 (I think) Schecter Blackjack C-7

Guitar Amp: Peavey Valve King VK 112 (1x12") - I forget if it is 50 or 100 Watts, because I never play it very loud.

Usually the guitars go straight through the amp, but for occasional color (and for fun) I will use:

an Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah,

a MoogerFooger 12 step phaser,

a Digitech Bad Monkey OD,

a Digitech Genesis 1 (the amp modeling is unimpressive, but the delay, echo, tremolo etc are awesome), or

a Korg Tonewerks AG-1000

Bass Guitars: '96 Ibanez ATK-300 (4 string) in the orangey-black sunburst - my #1 bass,

'94-'96? Ibanez ATK-USA 5 string in translucent blue-green

?? Ibanez Soundgear, unknown 5 string model MIJ, older model, converted to fretless,

'96 or '97 Cort B-5 custom 5 string

Conklin GT-7 (7 string bass) a.k.a. the Tank

Bass Amp: Peavey BAM head through a Crate 2x15" combo.

Use to bounce between my Strat' date=' '61RI and Casino depending on who I was working for, and through what ever worked..mainly Fender tube amps.

I got a Gretsch for Christmas, the inexpensive model...G5120, and I think I'm becoming a Hollowbody guy. I'm running either that and my Casino into my old '86 red knob twin now and through a delay and eq. I'll use a tube screamer or blues driver for some grit sometimes but mainly I stay pretty clean...then again next month who knows.

Nah...I think I've found the sound I like and the direction I want to go....after Lord knows how many years. Now I got to start looking for work in a different gender...and learn it too. Just never ends do it.

Hey Rafael,

First of all, nice looking guitar on your avatar! Is that Casino it's original color?

Congrats on your new Gretsch- I got the 5125 a few years ago and changed the PUPs to

the TV Jones ones... this January i got the 5122 (same as yours except double cut away)

These guitars are under rated and great price!

Hope you enjoy yours!

Thanks JG....and yes it is the original color. It's a Turquoise and I belive they quit offering it in that color around late '90s...not sure, mine's a '96. LOL...I got it in that color cause it reminded me of something from the '50s...a '57 chevy or something like that. I really like my Casino allot.

I know you're definitely enjoying your 5122...and congrats right back at you!

I've only seen pictures of the 5122 right after I got mine....figures. I think if I would have known about them before dropping hints to my wife about the 5120 I would have rather gone with the double cut. Although I've gotten so used to the single cut now I'm just going to keep pushing with it.

I'm thinking on some TV Jones down the line myself, maybe after the honeymoon, but darn these stock ones sound so good I might just leave them alone.

Anyhow congrats again.......you're right about them being a great score for the price.

Great things the Valve Jr! Simple, straight forward, easy to mod. From 9-midnight, smooth, creamy and clean. After midnight it starts to get raunchy and overdriven.

With just a chord to the amp I love messing with my guitar tone and volume knobs and hearing all the different shades of sound I can produce. And all for a one-thirty nine delivered. Hard to go wrong. . .

Here we go...

Guitars in order of most frequent use:

Epi G-400- '66 Style in Cherry. RS wiring, BBII - neck, Angus - bridge, TonePros, GraphTechNut, Terrapin Guitars 5-ply

custom pickguard. Purchased new

Epi G-400- '62 Style in Cherry. RS wiring, BBII - neck, BBIII - bridge, TonePros, GraphTechNut, Terrapin Guitars 5-ply

custom pickguard. Traded a new G-310 for it when it was in sad shape. Freshened

it up, and now it's probably my favorite. Samick built with the smoothed neck joint.

Epi G-400- Tony Iommi. Dead Stock, rarely played, hate polishing fingerprints off of it. EBAY - used, neglected,

filthy, cleaned-up to mint without a single scratch or ding anywhere. Weird.

Epi G-400- '62 Style in Cherry. Bought off EBAY as a total beater, think it's a '99 model. Was missing tuners, knobs,

all plastic, only thing it had was stock pickups and wiring/electrics. Refurbed with all

used parts. Used SD '59 - neck, Used SD PearlyGates - bridge, Used/EBAYed guard

and covers. Used OrangeDrop caps, stock wiring and pots. Still a test bed, but its

good for the beater that it is.

Epi G-400- '62 Style in Cherry. Factory Epiphone Vibrola. Bought used from original owner, was gigged from day one

and looked like it. (Think it's a '98 model). Work in progress, Filled aand redrilled the

headstock for Schaller locking tuners. Filled all dents/dings and sanded for new paint

to be applied. Will be getting P-94's, RS wiring, Gotoh Roller Bridge, GraphTechNut,

Machined Aluminum guard and covers, and of course the polished-out vibrola. Hope

to finish it up soon!

Traveler Speedster. Black. Stock. used with a Marshall MS-2 if flying somewhere. Got a car; Traveler no-go.

Small, odd-shaped, black gig-bag really freaks-out fellow passengers. Think Uzi.

Amps in order of size:

Marshall MS-2 used with Traveler Speedster... otherwise a novel paperweight.

Vox DA-5 Great l'il portable for just about anytime you wanna play but don't feel like totin'. Also

handy for late night practice so as not to disturb the wifey's sleep paterns. Adjust-

output switch, headphone jack, battery powered, a Godsend for those who live

with others and still need something decent to be happy. Much better than the

Roland Micro Cube IMHO

Marshall MG-15CDR My first amp and a Christmas present. Didn't get stolen during the break-in. Used

occasionally when jamming with a buddy somewhere. Portable and I'm strangely

sentimental about it. Wouldn't bring much in a sale so I just keep it around. Great

to have for when the Son's buddies show up and they "Forgot their Amp"

Epiphone Valve Jr. Head Got one simply to modify. With help from great folks on this forum this has gotten to

what I plug into 90% of the time. In addition to a total cosmetic makeover; it got the

Hammond 125ESE, the Marshall styled mods, and JJ tubes. How can anything with

only one knob be so much fun? If you haven't tried this yet what are you waiting

for? Currently running it through an Eminence Ramrod housed in an old Crate GX

-15 combo cabinet that was covered/refurbed to match. Putting the finishing

touches on a renovated 2x12 vertical cab loaded with Hellatones that will go

under the head and single 10 slant-cab for a sweeet 3/8ths stack.

Marshall AVT-20 Combo Got this to upgrade from the MG-15. Well pleased with it overall but I think a tube

and a speaker would help it a whole bunch. Has been tested against, (and will not

keep up with), a Vox AD-30VT: but if you really like less knobs it's the way to go in

that pairing...was for me anyway. Not upgrading anytime soon: the Valve Junior's

still more fun.

Marshall AVT-50 Head and 1960A Cab I don't need a half-stack. I don't need 50 watts. I DO live where I can explore the

power and the glory of same without the threat of jail time; so I do HAVE one. Do I

use it often? No. Do I like having it around? Yeah, I do. Sorta like having a Hemi

car in the garage... lotsa potential, but rarely ever used. Never a shortage of

buyers either if you find yourself in the need of emergency cash. To me, I'd

rather have a Marshall sitting around than a Wurlitzer.

Pedals and........

Electro-Harmonix English Muff'n Used to Have a Guv'Nor II and a Jackhammer. This does all I can forseeably need

for a long, long, time. Would like to get an E-H Memory Man sometime though.

rest of stuff the usuall assortment of cables, stands, tuners, etc. the only other thing I feel need

mentioning is picks. Have recently fallen in love with Fred Kelly picks. The Poly Flat

Fat in particular. Check these out if you haven't already, their thumbpicks are

seemingly extremely popular. Do seem to be a little hard to find though and I

ultimately had to order direct from the company.

Usually a guitar' date=' a chord and an amplifier. [either a Fender HR Deluxe or my old Vox AC30TB '].

I occasionally use a Cry-Baby...but that's about it.

Hi Smokestack, doesn't it go chord-guitar-cord-amplifier? I think you have it confused. :-s
