Tell me about the Epiphone BB King Lucille

Big Arm

I am especially interested in the neck size. How does it compare to the Dot?
I am interested as well .....my daughter's boyfriend got one (Lucille) for Christmas, but he hasn't brought it around for me to check out yet. Although I'm afraid I'll want one if I play it :-k

Yep --- thick and rounded. More substantial than a Sheraton, similar to my Casino (a bit thicker perhaps) and Broadway. The Varitone is very useful, and the closed body seems to add some high end to the tone, although it makes it hard to hear when not plugged in.

I haven't actually used the stereo output on mine yet, but I tend to play most often on either the neck or bridge pickup alone, and the stereo feature really only applies when using both pickups.

By the way --- have y'all seen this already?

I don't even own one' date=' but have been interested enough to ask about them. From what I have heard from others on the forum is that the neck is chunky (maybe even more than the Dot).

Well, I don't own the Epiphone "Lucille" but I do have the Gibson version. It has a very substantial neck,

rounded and fat...but, Not uncomfortable! I didn't respond to this, originally, because I've never owned

an Epi "Dot" either, so it would have been only a "guess" on my part, as to how they compared. My Sheraton

Riviera and Casino necks are quite a bit thinner overall, than "Lucille!"

As to the Varitone, it's a nice feature, and can be quite usefull...but, personally, I rarely use it beyond postion 2!

Other than the Varitone and Stereo capability, it's basically a "Dot" or 335 in tone. They Are great looking,

though!

That's funny. Now to me, the Lucille and the Sheriton II seemed to play and feel exactly the same ... probably the reason I haven't talen the plunge yet even though I have BIG TIME gas for the Sheri in natural. I had a look at Epi's site and, believe it or not, the Lucille, Casino, Sheri and Dot are all listed as being 1.68 inches at the nut. The only one that is a tad wider is the Elitest Casino at 1 and 11/16th inches.

I know that neck thickness is another factor and none of the guitars has the radius listed. I only know that the Lucille neck is very confortable for me to play ... and I like a thin neck! I agree with CB on his point about the Varitone ... position one or two about 99% of the time.

Its a great guitar ... and another little piece of music history.

MIDI...Is your "Lucille" an Epi? And, the Sheraton you're referring to, a Korean version? If so...they may well be,

quite a bit alike???

I have a "Assembled in USA" (basically an Elitist) Sheraton and it's neck is quite a bit thinner, than Gibson's

"Lucille," which...as I stated, is the one I own. So, that's what I was basing my comparison on. It sounds like,

by your description, that the Standard Epi Sheri and Epi Lucille may be completely different, than mine.

But, all those guitars are really nice...so, any would be a good (even great) instrument. ;>)

Thanks for all the info. I looked on the Epiphone website and it does not give the neck radius as MIDIMan56 said. I have a Gibson ES-345 which also has the varitone which I am still just beginning to play with. My second guitar is a Dot which I leave at work (I am a sp ed teacher working with autistic kids.) so I can play kids songs there. Just kind of intrigued by the Lucille as it would closer to the gibson. I know that the Gibson Lucille has a fat neck, just kind of wondered about the epi. don't think I would want much thicker of a neck than the Dot.
