Which one ?

I have an Epi lp goldtop on layaway but I was thinking of getting the Epi SG400 and the butterscotch blonde fender squire telecaster instead. The sg and tele would cost me about $80 bucks more for both of them. All three of these guitars are on my GAS list. Should I go ahead and get the other two out of the way or get the goldtop since it is discontinued?

GoldTop' date=' lpfan! (What ARE you thinking??!! LOL!) Seriously..The other's will be around for some time to come, I'd think.

As you said, the GT is already "history!" So, if you can get a new one still, and you want it anyway, I'd do THAT! ;>)

Thats pretty much what I thought but I didn't know if I was just biased or if the other deal would be better. Thanks CB I really value your input!

Oh yeah, thanks for your input too Chewy.

I would get the G400 and the Tele.

I have a G400 and love it. I have been gassing for a tele for quite a while now.

I just think those are two really great guitars that have quite different tones coming out of them. So for me, I would much rather have two guitars (like SG said) than one. And I think you can get a wider range of tone/sound from those two guitars than you will get from just the GT.

Besides, it looks like you already have one LP.

But I don't see any SG's or Tele's!#-o

On the face of it I would say the Goldtop but I see that you already have a Gibby LP special. If this has P90s, you're not necessarily adding much more to your tone palate with the goldtop. I would always say go for the best guitar you can afford which adds something different to what you already have. Instead of the G400 & Squ**e Tele, why not put a bit extra in and go for a Gibby SG faded. A nice SG with great attack and sustain and dirty humbuckers would certainly give you extra options. Also, I'm not very knowledgable about Squi**s, but aren't the 'Classic Vibe' series supposedly the only ones worth getting at the moment? I don't know what your current strat is like but if the 'Classic Vibes' are indeed an upgrade why not consider one of these or even a Fen**r Highway One or Classic Players for a future trade in.

The main issue is money. If it was not an option then I would get a Gibson SG instead of an Epiphone. Don't get me wrong there is absolutely nothing wrong with Epi's but the Gibson would be a better investment. However being a full time college student paying my way through college without student loans, my budget is TIGHT. My Strat is a squire and I am really surprised at how good it is. I always wanted a tele and the Squire is in my price range and for another $360.00 I can get the Epi SG 400 as well. So for a little more than I would be buying the goldtop for I would have 2 decent guitars. I have played both of them at my friends shop and they seem really nice for the money. I'm probably going to go with the Goldtop since its discontinued and LP's are my favorite. Plus, its got the P90's! I would assume the sg and tele are also a little easier to find than the goldtop.

I have GT and Ebony 56 LP and love the soapbar P-90's, you know what sound that you like the best but like others have said the 56 Goldtops are suppose to be discontinued after this run so...if you want one in new condition I would get the Goldtop and find the others later. Good luck I'm sure you'll figure it out, just let us see whatever you get!!

I'm a bit late in on this one but you've been GASsing for that Gold Top for ages. You can pick up a cheap 400 or squire tele any time. If you're an LP fan then you know what you want. Some of my friends wind me up about my large ES style collection but I know what I like and I like what I own and I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to add another casino, sheraton or dot to my collection if it had something about it I liked. In this case it's a finish and pick ups that this guitar will have and fill in an empty gold top hole in your heart!
