Swoop
Considering the GoldTop is discontinued, you'd probably be mad to pass one up. Go for it!
Guest
Yeah this is a no-brainer - unless you despise P90s for some reason, get the gold top. They don't make them anymore so do it sooner rather than later.
Bender 4 Life
Get the GT, it sounds even better than it looks.........now THATS a win/win situation if I ever saw one!!
Guest icantbuyafender
either upgrade to a LP mahogony (new model) the ebony standard or the 56 GT. what style of music do you play? the 56GT would suit anything but hard modern rock/metal. Stevie Nazarenie
i have a basswood lp that i've routed to p90's from hb's it's not finished yet and i was going to go for a plain top but i have gold spray so i think i'm going to that look! the gold top pretty much rocks!:D/
jcwillow777
I love Goldtops, but I hate P90s, sorry guys. If you use pedals (distortion, overdrive, compression) the P90s will be very noisy, if you don't, you may really like them. I put minis in my GT. That or get the Standard, they have quite a few nice finishes available.
Stevie Nazarenie
i have some stacked p90's on my vintage av3p. these are a great solution!:D/ http://www.performing-musician.com/pm/jul08/articles/vintageadvance.htm
mbrooks0711
Just to say, MF is selling the goldtop and a few others with free shipping and a free hardshell case. That's a pretty good deal IMO.
Guest icantbuyafender
man a free case and free shipping... doesn't get any better. I got mine, no case for $500. oh well, I hope some good guitarists acquire those goldies. solid deal, great instrument.
charlie brown
Get the Goldtop, put in P-100's or SD Stacked '90's (easy mod), and you're off! CB
lpfan
Get the Goldtop because once the stock runs out, they are gone. You will love it and you can't beat the deal with a free case and free shipping.
ken361
they loud as single coils like on a strat?
Guest icantbuyafender
they loud as single coils like on a strat? bigger output... not at all tiny and none of the twang/quack and shrillness. it is all around warmer yet can still sing highs like a single coil, without being harsh. they love warm and smooth blues/jazz and won't get muddy like a stock strat. overall, amazing pups. jcwillow777
I ment hum I think they are a little louder. The middle position is supposed to be hum cancelling, but If I remember I had hum there too on my '56 GT. Position 2 and 4 on amy Strat are definitely quieter than my GT was when it had P90s in it. I put minis in it and have never regretted it. A GT is a great looking guitar!
shartom
I've had the Goldtop for about two years and wouldn't consider getting rid of it. The P90's have a unique sound. They definitely don't sound like humbuckers.I've had guys look at it and say "Too bad it isn't a Gibson", that is until they hear it and want to try it. For $500 CDN it is a steal

old mark
I have a Tele (sorry) with a P90 at the neck - if you take it down low, you get almost no hum at all, and I think it really improves the sound - very blusey. mark
Guest icantbuyafender
yeah the '56 GT is a noisy beast on all positions. GFS makes reverse wound reverse polarity replacements fr a quiet position 2, though. with effects the p90's are even more noise prone. I had to go with mini-buckers. bluesman345
These DiMarzio "Virtual P-90's" are P-90 voiced HB's that just nail the sound I want! Check out DiMarzio at http://www.dimarzio.com/site/#/pickups/
SociallyDistorted
I'm getting my '56 GT this week. My wife gave me the "ok" and I couldn't pass up the free shipping and hardshell case. I've been wanting an LP with P-90's and didn't want to shell out the $$$ for a Gibson Gt. Plus it made the decision easy when I saw it was being discontinued! lpfan
You will not regret it. The goldtops are very nice guitars. Congrats and post pics when you get her!
BillyGibson
Rather tha start a new thread.... I was deciding between a GT and a Casino. Last Thursday I finally made the decision. It arrived yesterday. A brand new Goldtop. Here's what is interesting. There is a sticker on it that says, "Made in Korea". The serial number starts with 09, and there are no letters in front of it like EE, U, I, S. I'm going to go now and plug it in and play for a bit before heading off to work. I'll report back later with pics. Enjoy your's when it comes.
