Happy New Amp Day!

Yep. It's a Watkins Dominator re-issue! Even the cab logo bling is from the original Watkins stock. After drooling over pictures of low quality bootleg dominator cabs for so long, this is like a dream come true for me! There's a thread and a picture gallery on 18watt.com covering the development of this reissue if anyone's interested.

That's beautiful, man! I just got a tear in my eye!

My HNAD is hopefully tomorrow, but not nearly as elaborately! This one is a JCA20H...for $299, I couldn't resist trying it. In the next few months, however, I'll be building that lucious cathode-biased EL34 dream.

Congrats, gil...sweet looking amp!

Thanks. Just in case you haven't drooled enough, I posted more Dom-porn in my photobucket page.

I'm so stoked I doubt I'll be able to sleep for days. There is a semi-sorta-sad side to the story. You know I'm just gonna have to build up and sell off some of my babies to pay for it. #-o Poor things. :-({|= But that's cool. Sooner or later there comes a time when ya may as well just kick all the kids outta the house, get married, and settle down. For the night, anyway. Might rain or something! [cool] Tomorrow's another day. ;)

Sure Brian. To the left of the Dom is the 18watt Marshall clone I built last year with GDS iron and Reason/StageCrafter cabs. It's got a Celestion Heritage G12H-30 up top in the combo, and Heritage G12M in the closed-back bottom cab. I just recently moved that one to the corner where it sits now cuz the RFI noise at the other end of the room is so much worse. Here's a better shot of the pile of cabs in the background before I moved the Marshall into the corner and bought the Dominator.

The bottom two gray Marshall JTMC12 cabs are loaded with Vintage 30's The Mesa cab bottom center was a Blue Angel combo, but now it just houses a Celestion Alnico Blue. The two VSpecial cabs above the Marshalls are both loaded with Jensen P10r's, but the chassis' are gathering dust waiting for their turn on the bench to get rebuilt. Same waiting game for the VStandard cab in the top center, which is loaded with the Celestion-90/Mesa Black Shadow that came out of the Mesa cab below it. I'll get around to rebuilding those amps eventually, but I'm obviously in no hurry.

The two VJr's heads on top are twins, and the result of my earliest turretboard el84 projects that I built 3 years ago for a stereo spread. Same sets of tubes have been in both since they were reborn, BTW. The cab-flipped former Crate VC508 in the top center was rebuilt point to point with 6U8 and 6AQ5 tubes into what eventually became known as the "Savage Croaker" project. See Wattkins.com forum's Tone Per Buck Club thread for more on that. http://www.wattkins.com/node/15993

Oh yeah, and sitting on top of the Savage Croaker/Crate are my two itty bitty Zvex Nano amps for road trips and/or whenever the power goes out. Like after hurricanes.

On the pedal board is a Zvex Fuzz Factory > RMC Picture Wah > Keeley Java Boost > Burchtone RF Drive > MXR Stereo Chorus > MXR Carbon Comp powered by a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power II Plus secured under the board.

What you don't see are two more VJr heads; a VJr combo; a dead Peavey SS combo someone recently dumped on me; a Kustom Bass 30 1x10 combo cab; and a finally, a Champ 600 that I'm still waiting to present to my neighbor's kid if she ever she makes it back down here to visit her grandma.

Yeah. I know... Way too much stuff! But spring's coming. Good time to clean house and sell off some amps, huh? Till then, we be rockin'! No doubt about it. [cool]

Thanks. It's starting to sound more like a proper guitar amp should now that it's got like 36 hours burn-in time on it and the new speaker cone cry isn't so bad; so I took it out for a jam at a friend's house tonight. It blew him away and left his Orange AD15 (w/Tone Tubby) in the dust. And I used to be totally in love with that AD15. Even the insides of this thing makes Orange's immaculate guts look like plain old vanilla. No surprise really. But the cab's the key to it all I guess, cuz this puppy's got rare tone!
