Riverside
I likes my P90s pretty good. Epi Casino SG Jr (it's CORAL not pink!) '50s LP Tribute GT Real-live vintage MM (restoration is progress - not sure what year it is quite yet...) Never looked at it like this before, but it seems that there's as many or more P90 guitars around here than there is anything else...
stein
maybe worth a new thread, but i think it should be in this one. the question is, what are some of the BEST p-90s made. what is the difference between a new gibson p-90 and a vintage one, and how close are they? what about the fralin and lollar p-90's? how close are they and what makes them different? NeoConMan
Boy! What a can of worms YOU just opened..... Should be some good stuff though - if there are any answers to be had.
stein
another p-90 question that perhaps deserves a new thead but i think it should be here-the value of the pots, what do you know about them? it has been a while for me, but i clearly remember a variety of answers and theories. my understanding is that the proper value is 300k, but also that gibson only used 250k or 500k pots in anything from the '50's. one story goes that these old pots actually at times measured 300k for a 250k and some 500k measured 350k or something like that, and eventually it was settled on 300k for a p-90 and 500k for a humbucker. now, for a time at least in the 90's i recall the "official" spec as per gibson was 500k, but for those in the know, it was 300k. details such as this are hard to come by in gibson lore/history, and i'm interested what some may know about this. I've been doing some research, myself, because I'm looking at routing my SG Special for some p90s. From what I've learned Lollars are about the best p90, Gibson or otherwise, that you can get.(Excluding vintage Gibson p90s possibly)

The way I see it there is no set formula because it depends what magnets the pickup has, Alinco 2, 3, 5 or Ceramic. Lets say Alnico 2 probably works best with 500K pots but Alnico 5 is bright (without being harsh) 300K volume pots may be just right. Personal taste also plays a roll. heymisterk
Once I heard Live at Leeds, I was forever altered. I tried to get that tone from 'buckers: forget it. I began searching for a P-90 guitar immediately, and sold my SG Standard to finance it. With the P-90s, it was like someone flipping on a light switch. There are many women out there with flaws, but they do certain things so, so good, you can forgive them their sins...just like P-90s.

Thank you gibsonkid.....Some members here have some very nice collections, like Neo and Retrosurfer among others....The 'grey' is a Gibson LP Standard, one of 100...The Silver guitar is a solid non chambered Epi LP made in around 1996; It looks good on stage and sounds nice on recordings...The burst is a Gibby Traditional with a nice flame top; it is my main recording Gibby.....Thanks, guitars, music and art are my main focus these days....and recording....working on various CD projects.... retrosurfer1959
Yep own several the only thing better than a gibson p-90 is the p-90 style pickups that Hamer puts in there guitars. The PRS narrow-field is a pretty nice sound also. Your guitars look pretty nice also Damian
lespaulj45
The best sounding Les Paul I have ever heard is a 1968 Std with P-90's.The guy that owns it still performs with it in Washington State
Sinner 13
wow this post made it to four pages Before I could open my mouth. As Most of the regulars around these parts know, I am A p-90 fanatic. I discovered their goodness quite by accident. Keep your humbuckers I want nothing to do with them.
