Because of his birthday I was thinking about George Harrison and all the crap he went through over My Sweet Lord/ He's So Fine copy write infringement case. It really does happen a lot.

Such is the case with Rocky Mountain Way and Steve Millers The Stake. Know any More?

Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse" and Rush's "La Villa Strangiato." Listen here. According to the website http://www.musicintheabstract.org/: "By the time Raymond Scott's publisher notified the band's management of the infringement, the statute of limitations had expired on the challenge. But Rush's management, out of deference to Mr. and Mrs. Scott (Raymond was still alive at that point), offered a one-time "penance" payment, feeling it was the ethical thing to do. All involved were happy with the resolution, and Rush has no further financial obligations. Under the settlement, they were not required to accord Raymond Scott partial songwriting credit on the piece."

I have noticed a modern day trend is to allude to other songs either in title ie Alicia Keys' New York tipping a hat to old Mr Sinatra's song; or Eliza Doolittle's Pack Up Your Troubles, which blatantly re jig an old London song. Even the name of the last artists rips off someone, albeit a fictional one; (yes the name is familiar, she is in My Fair Lady!!)

Then there are more obvious and intentional 'reimaginings' (as Tim Burton coined?) like Kid Rock's All Summer Long (Sweet Home Alabama). It does seem such a modern trend

Then there is this; a coincidence? or Coldplay completely snatching the main theme from Satch's If I Could Fly...what do you reckon?
