PRS USA Guitar and Vox valve amp for under £800!

I know Fbarnes in particular is/was after a valve amp and there has been a lot of P90 love here lately. I just came across this

http://www.dv247.com...v-bundle--81431

It is the new PRS USA made Starla. A very well received take on the Gibson Les Paul Junior style guitar msp_thumbup.gif

£764.00 is a good offer right? How much are these guitars going for in the US? It seems finally PRS are catering for the mid range customer who want a USA quality guitar.

I was thinking that after i get my acoustic in May; that later in the year I am 'coming into some money' (my last years Take it away loan will have been paid and I can re apply all over againmsp_biggrin.gif) so want to get a load of new music books, a new portable head (maybe a Handwired Tiny terror) and a p90 guitar for jazz.

Our country does this very kind scheme called 'The Take It Away Scheme' where you can (through the arts council) buy gear up to £2000 in value (approx $3000) and pay back o percent interest over 10 months.

Bargain Matt. Do they include a case? Couldn't see one, but DV247 do cheap, sturdy ones anyway. The colour would turn a few stomachs perhaps, but it would certainly also turn heads - very distinctive. My problem is more with the PRS headstock, which has always weirded me out. If only I weren't questing for acoustic tone and playability! If I had the additional cash, I'd happily trade my Casino for this - though in the same price range I would have to try out a Tribute Studio LP too. From clips, the Vox sounds rather good (rather better than most other major players' little valve amps to my ears).

I hadn't even considered the colour but here you go

I like the Olive Green with black plastic.

Something I found interesting in that second link Matt posted was the little multi-coloured panel to the bottom-left of the powder-blue guitar.

It's a photographer's colour checker. It serves to calibrate the colour balance so as to ensure the picture reproduced is colour-accurate.

I don't know if it was left there on purpose or else the snapper forgot to remove it for the 'proper' photo.

It means the colours seen are the exact colours of the instruments - this ensures there are no 'surprises' when the instrument drops through the letterbox.....

Bargain Matt. Do they include a case?

According to the details in the blurb they do, indeed, include a fitted case.

Matt.... The Starla stoptail model is actually getting a good bit of love here in the states over the model with the Bigsby. I've played several and they are excellent, quality guitars. As for the Vox 4 watt , I would say, buyer beware. I had to send one back to Vox, because the transformer crapped out on me. Although in their defense, I was sent a new in box replacement.

I think that's a really good deal if you want a Starla. I believe just the guitar is worth more than that. The AC4 combo sounds good but the ones I've had/tried were junk. They all rattled when turned up but great for lower volumes.

Careful Matt, this is how you start selling your Gibsons for PRS...

I should have read this thread sooner, thanks for thinking of me, Matt!

didn't read it because I assumed it was about a PRS guitar which I have no specific desire for. The amp looks like it might do the trick and is yet another thorn in the side of my intention to pick up a BJ. I'll have to try one as it seems to offer a lot more than the Blackstar 1 watter I tried at the weekend.

I was talking to my dad today and he gave me an idea, if I buy a cheaper and smaller amp for now (Blackstar/Vox), when I can afford the BJ I can give the smaller amp to my nephew.

I am in two minds about selling my Marshall TSL head and 1960a cab. It is, basically, completely non-portable but I love the tone when ever I do get a chance to crank it a bit. The other thing is that I have been moving away from heavy rock and towards blues for my playing recently so a BJ would be more appropriate.

Hmmm, wonder what the TSL 60 and 1960a cab is worth second hand.

DV247 are still doing relatively cheap Melody Makers in the (I think) most attractive worn white finish, bundled with case. Sigh. To have my electric-for-life semi with humbuckers, the hopefully soon deal-done acoustic-for-life hog-backed slope dread, and then something with real P90s (not my Casino), plus something really basic with one or two single coils (Esquire, Tele, MM)... I really think that the Olive Green would turn heads in a good way, and the wide neck sounds delicious, but a Gibson you can take out and thrash for under 400 smackers? Must focus. Want Southern Jumbo and have ordered it!

I'd feel bad if I didn't say this and someone had grief. I've had nothing but problems with DV247 and I have never heard a good thing said.
