Rich W Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 In the early 1970s, a fan at a Zappa concert in Finland shouted out “Whipping Post” in broken English. Here’s Frank’s response to a February 1983 Guitar Player interview question about this: “We didn’t know it, and I felt kind of bad that we couldn’t just play it and blow the guy’s socks off. When Bobby Martin joined the band and I found that he knew how to sing that song, I said ‘we are definitely going to prepare for the next time somebody wants Whipping Post - in fact, we are going to play it before someone even asks for it.’ I’ve got probably 30 different versions of it on tape from concerts all around the world, and one if them is going to be THE Whipping Post - the APEX Whipping Post of the century.” And then he jokes with the interviewer that people mistake him for Duane Allman all the time.
BobB Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Zappa won me over with his song "Montana", which is about a guy who is thinking about moving to Montana to raise a crop of dental floss.
DAS44 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Zappa was a genius. He put out some strange music to say the least, but I enjoy it. His music is quite far reaching... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDU1tKTpSRw

It is great that his work is taken seriously too by the classical community Matt
Californiaman Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I was listening to Deep Tracks the other day in the suburban and Zombie Woof came on. OMG!!! If you can get past the synclaver and the zylophone, the guitar parts are way worth listening to. Here's Steve Vai from Zappa Plays Zappa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpf2IoJZhqI
FirstMeasure Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Visually the quality sucks, but the quality of the interview is Top Shelf!!
surfpup Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I would have to say this is the one that hooked me... I grew up in the "Valley Girl" era and had to work backwards to find the good stuff... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaCCKrpCQDM
