  1. Chief, "Scotch and Soda" was their most popular, and most requested song at concerts, and it took me about 50 years to finally get a correct score that matches their final concert version. Haven't made up my mind yet which guitar I'll use. Last concert I played the J-45, but The Kingston Trio were Martin guys, so I'll probably use the D-28 this time. RBSinTo
  2. SteveFord, I assume that by "new music" you also mean sheet music. So.........I just got the sheet music to "God bless the child", which a good bud is playing in our upcoming concert that our music teacher is hosting. I may join him in this song on stage, in addition to the two songs that I'm playing: Clapton's unplugged version of "Nobody knows you when you're down and out", and The Kingston Trio's " Scotch and Soda". 3. The Beatles original"Yesterday and Today" cover was for me, a mystery. RBSinTo
  4. slimt, Maybe they will just fade away. RBSinTo
  5. Chief, Welcome back. Keep the flags of discontent flying. RBSinTo
  6. Rob, Keep in mind that you pay for lunches in US dollars, and this guitar is priced in CDN dollars, so you might only have to skip lunches for four or five days to afford it. RBSinTo
  7. For the Gibsonians who are interested: https://www.12fret.com/instruments/1946-gibson-sj-slope-shoulder-dreadnought-sunburst/ I have no affiliation with either the store or the owner of the instrument, and only post this as a courtesy to the members here. RBSinTo
  8. MissouriPicker, We could have bacon and eggs. If we had some bacon. And if we had some eggs. RBSinTo

  10. I have a 1974 Martin D-28, which I purchased used, in 1979, and have been very happy with it. Martins made in the 1970's are considered by some to be be generally inferior in sound and build quality to those the company produced before or since. However, mine has a wonderful sound, and in the 44 years I have owned it, has only required a pickguard replacement, and a new bridge plate, as well as set-ups, but has never needed bindings re-glued or replaced, and does not need a neck re-set. Not bad for a 49 year-old guitar. However, if you have any concerns about the D-18's physical condition (aside from your opinion on it's sound) you should ask the seller if you can have it looked at by a Luthier before making an offer. 11. Dave, As a recovering Smokeaholic (clean since 1990), please believe me when I say, that's a really bad idea. Soak the guitar in Sulphuric, Acid, bury it for eight and a half days in Bat Guano or six and three-quarter Wednesday evenings in Pasta Primavera, fill it with Garbonzo Beans and shake it while doing the Hokey Pokey, or whatever, but do yourself a big favor and don't start smoking. 12. JWG4927, Guitars make good maraccas? Large volumes of raw rice can be conveniently stored in guitars? Guitars were invented in ancient China, and originally used to store rice? RBSinTo
  13. Dave, Is there a conclusion, or even a point to this story?????????? RBSinTo
  14. When I wanted a strap button on my D-28, while I had the skill and tools to do the installation, I lacked the knowledge required. And so, after prying open my change purse with a crowbar, and extracting the necessary funds, I went to very reputable Luthiers here in Toronto, who knew exactly where, and how to install it, and let them do it properly and correctly. A word to the wise...... RBSinto
  15. Dave, Just take care that what happened to Sheldon when he got there doesn't happen to you too. RBSinTo
  16. j45nick, Ahhh. Another example of Schrodinger's problem. RBSinTo
  17. ksdaddy, Well done you! I'm always impressed by those who have the ingenuity and skill to tackle and fix a problem like this one. Smartly done! RBSinTo
  18. I don't understand why anyone would pay for a new instrument that was finished to look old, and beaten up. Obviously some people would, and do, but I'm not among them. My guitars (all purchased used) have their little dings and cosmetic use imperfections, but I am careful not to add to their inventories. To each his own. RBSinTo
  19. Elizabeth Cotten, who wrote "Freight Train Blues", also played left-handed, turning the guitar upside down without switching the order of the strings. RBSinTo
  20. Wow! There be some powerfully ugly guitars. RBSinTo
  21. rct., I am very sorry to hear of the death of your kitty. My sincere condolences to you and your family on his loss. RBSinTo
  22. I expected no less a reply from you, Mr. minor 7, as you and he are members of the same subset of extreme guitar fanatics . The only difference is that his musings are less incomprehensible than yours. RBSinTo
  23. Wow! What are the chances? Of all the models, of all the brands, of all the guitars in the world, and the very best one in all the categories which turns out to be a Gibson, walks into this Gibson fanboy's life. Amazing. This guy is delusional. RBSinTo
  24. The Ukranian army? I would imagine the Russian army would be a much better choice for a somone who beats up on innocent people weaker than he is. RBSinTo
