  1. I know, right, that cracked me up!
  2. I think they are dead ringers for finish cracks, the question really is how did they get there?
  3. yea, that would definitely seal the deal.
  4. that's too bad, I am not usually a fan of V's but something about that one catches my eye Hope you find another
  5. you should wait for that Bealtes / Stones collaboration thing, then you can be sure it's time..
  6. you might be confusing chrome with nickel Nickel will show age, most Chrome I've had wont My 95 LP and 2002 Standard's chrome looks like the day I brought em home from the gutiar store.
  7. it's possible that they are doing the more honorable thing and keeping the prices on NOS at the rate that they bought at, and not a reflection of the current increase we all know it's all what people will pay Chris $10,000 for a Murphy labs les paul is a pretty good extreem example. Yet, they're selling em. OTOH, I'm not sure I could find a reason to drop $2,600 on a Stratocaster. just in principle alone. Are they nice? yes, I just set one up this past weekend for my son. And with just a wink south of $3k for a les paul? yes, it's a lot of money. But! Out of line with going prices for similar caliber of instruments from other builders? I'm not seeing that. Everything is crazy these days, and it's from Eggs to Guitars. The stigma of it all when it comes to what Gibson charges vs. everyone else, the court of public opinion has me amused.
  8. so just throwing this out there,, A new Standard 60s: $2,900 A new Fender Stratocaster Luxe: $2,600
  9. Unfortunately, when it comes to Gibson finishes - Flawless is not really something that you can 100% bank on. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'm saying it is what it is. if you can't live with it, send it back, but the next one could have similar or be worse, or not play as well. So it's only something that you can decide on. We can't answer that one way or the other.
  10. truth be told, I don't think I have never owned a fuzz pedal since maybe the 70s when everyone was jumping on the band wagon I ddin't care for them then, I still don't now. But overdrives? yep and those seem to work just fine.
  11. I've been messing around with guitars for a long long time, (50+ years now) I've never seen anything like this before. I wouldn't keep it.
  12. that is normal and common, as the song's parts get more intense, your timing/tempo is key to the "tensing" up problem
  13. the asking prices are ludicrous really..
  14. it's all about getting the right strap really.
  15. that one goes right up there with the $20k peter green LP
  16. simply stated, it's possible that two things are going on 1: the song itself is a bit too advanced for where you are in your journey on playing. or,, 2: you're just not ready for it yet at "full" speed. which in this case, seems to be where you are at which one it is, you will have to decide. your hands will just start finding their way, then you kind of know you're onto tsomething Take some advice from a guy who's taught for many years, and played for even more,.. There are so many songs out there that are probably easier for where you are at. Don't get stuck on one that has you stuck
  17. OUH!!!! Here's me.... rushing to find the "Buy It Now" thing..
  18. Truss rod adjustments are fairly straight forward, however, you do need to understand the basics. Truss rods are only for managing how much "bow" is set. It is NOT how you set your action. The truss rod will take a forward or back bow out of a neck, but it is done it's small changes Normally you want as little relief as possible, but not to the point where the neck is in "back bow" state. These adjustments are done in "SMALL" increments, where 1/4 - 1/2 turn is usually all that's needed, you don't do "many turns" not ever. One needs to be familiar with how to sight down the neck to determine what it needs. More relief, less relief. There are tools that cna help, but eyeballing it using the "string" as the straight edge reference is all you need to understand Last but not least, if you have no previous experience Google "Adjusting Truss Rods" before you do anything, it's all out there, and you can save yourself a lot of angst.,
  19. wow.. that is incredible. I should have had you give me the restoration estimate!!! Awesome job Scott.
  20. I didn't realize the market was that inflated for these. Hopefully you can find something to attach it to. If you still have my email handy, can you send a pic or 2? I'd love to see how far you got that neck. I hated to not use it but I felt it was beyond my know how to bring it back.
  21. Artificially aged guitars is nothing I have any interest in purchasing. The amount of money people will pony up for them is astounding to me, but it's their money so, there is that. One of my acquaintances has two murphy labs LPs, he paid around 10k for both of them. He doesn't have a great job, and he's not an accomplished player, but these 2 ML Les Pauls, he's proud of them, he loves the he11 out of them and plays them every day. not what I would dump 20k in but - he's happy So,, Me? I'd rather go in the opposite direction like the last post from Scott.. I was given this at the start of February last year. It was leaning up against a barn, outside in New Hampshire, in the wintertime in a "Pickers" back yard. By the middle of May, the restoration was complete. Scott actually bought the neck when I decided I wasn't going to try to restore it. No regrets there either. BTW... Scott, how'd you make out with that?
  22. Buying used "Sight SEEN" is really THE best way, but just check all the usual things.. Get under that truss rod cover and make sure you see a 5/16 hex bolt While you're at it, if you have the Truss Rod Wrench, a slight light 1/4 turn and back to make sure it's not frozen would NOT be a horrible idea. If you can plug it in, check all is working and see how noisy the volume/tone pots are, check the same on the toggle switch Not usually a show stopper, but at minimum, you'll want to hit those w/Dexoit cleaner. Check fret wear, 2016, should not be "too" bad, but I'd expect some, depending on the hours of use it's seen. Take a look at the back of the neck, look for any signs of repairs, or anything you don't expect to see at the neck / body pocket. The rest is down to cosmetics and a used guitar, is going to show use. I get nutty when people looking at used guitars complain because they see pick scratches on the pick guard or a ding here and there. That stuff comes with when buying a used instrument. They are good guitars, yes - and I know it's all conjecture, personal opinion, and mostly just so much BS BUT I've never played any Epiphone Les Paul (and I've played many) that my 2 USA Standard LPs haven't destroyed. There... I said it.. and now, I'll show myself out
  23. I have 2 sets of masterbuilts left when I strolled into the local store and found 4 packs of them on display a few months ago. I quickly hoped on the forum and announced the find as they have been disco'd for a while now Murph thinks they'll be corroded he could be right I've not opened em as yet. The Gibson coated strings are ok. They are not as good, or do they last like D'Addario XTs do The one thing I noticed when I tried the Gibson coated strings, they went from "ok" to "stone cold dead" like overnight. Got about 4 months out of them so not complaining, but compared to XTs for example, . I can usually get about 5 months out of them and they still sound and feel pretty good. w/XTS, I often change em b/c I get the urge on Saturday mornings sometimes not because they are dead.
  24. I took a pickguard off my les paul standard and man!! What a difference
