Good advice for life as well as most anything else. But think about it.... How many things in our lives that we relied on were changed and not for the better because some engineer nephew of some big shot thought he/she could "fix" it to be "better"? How many here are stuck with hundreds of dollars worth of vinyl LPs and then had to invest more money in the purchase of those new-fangled CD players because someone "fixed" some problem (so they thought) and now for decades nobody released new recordings on anything else but compact discs? And now, how much have you invested in replacing a lot of your old vinyl records with CD reissues, and the dozens or more of new releases on CDs only to wake up one morning to find someone else "fixed" some perceived "problem" leaving all those CDs useless? And now, no sooner than when you dump that old inoperable turntable do they start releasing a lot of good music on vinyl again! Whitefang

Remember....the lady whose dogs were stolen had Samoyeds. No little yappers, they. And you really can't rely on doberman's on their own merits, as if you recall, a brother in law of mine had a huge brown doberman that was terrified of my wife's toy poodle. Whitefang

She gets HALF your pension? Really? Does the railroad send her a separate check, or are you just speaking figuratively? And how else is it set up? Like if you go first how much of your pension does she get as a surviving spouse? For GM workers it's 65%. Which means I get a check for 65% of my wife's pension each month. When she was still living she used to like to joke: "We have TWO types of money in our house. OUR money, and MY money!" Whitefang

I get that. And that guy must be one hell of what my Mom would call a "fussbudget" as I have three other recordings of the 5th( Cliburn, Alexis Weisberg, Caudio Arrau, ) and each have differences so subtle that if and when one might notice them it turns out to be no big deal. I know I didn't specify beyond referring to Beethoven's 5th concerto(the "Emperor" ) . The "Emperor" of course, being his 5th piano concerto. For that I apologize. Also, Beethoven only compose one violin concerto. I've heard violinist Midori perform it with the DSO. It's really a beautiful work of music. But then of course, it's Beethoven. And incidentally; The only spelling mistake in Mutter's name you made was excluding the hyphen between Anne and Sophie. Whitefang

Yep. And if you noticed(which you obviously didn't) I made no politically based comment on the subject. Whitefang

Congrats Butch. Yep, it does go by fast. In this past January I marked 23 years of being officially retired. Was on sick leave four years before that. But just seems like a few years. My wife also worked for GM and medically retired four years later. Like my Mom would say; "Turn around and spit twice and so much time went by." Whitefang

Oh...... your DOG! I thought you were talking about one of your GRANDKIDS! ðĪŠ He retired too soon. A woman I worked with said she had two very large Samoyed dogs. One night when she was out her house was broken into. Her sound system and VCR was stolen. And so were her dogs! Whitefang

True. And I'm tired of constantly telling people that guy probably got his gun by stealing it out of the house of some fool who bought it to "protect" his home and belongings. And it's probably a defective weapon to begin with as it didn't do what it was intended to when the fool wasn't home to confront the home invader. Whitefang

That's cute. Just hope he keeps asking Mom to take care of it and doesn't try to do it himself. And running the risk of getting the clothes washer mixed up with the dishwasher. Had a friend whose "helpful" son put his muddy clothes and sneakers in the dishwasher. Didn't turn out well. And once he tried to help his Dad(my buddy) clean up all the leaves on the front yard by dragging the Hoover out side to vacuum them up! He was five at the time. I hadn't seen him for years until his Dad's(my buddy) funeral. He was then in his late 30's and a Lieutenant in the Air Force. I reminded him of the vacuum cleaner incident and said I was worried about the nation's safety with military officers of that caliber. Of course he knew I was just teasing him and laughed. Whitefang

Yeah. I grew up not too far from the old(and long gone) Detroit Dragway. Which actually wasn't in Detroit but the Downriver suburb of Riverview. Used to ride my bike there every now and then. But that was WAY back when AA fuelers doing the quarter mile in 7 seconds was still just a dream. We still have the Michigan International Speedway just south of Brooklyn, MI , but I've never been there as it wasn't built until long past my loss of interest in watching cars drive around in circles. But this Saturday is going to be a return of the Detroit Grand Prix being run through the streets of Detroit after an absence of 30 years., during which time the race was run on Detroit's Belle Isle , the city's island park. "Few" is right! ðĪŠ And of mostly no interest to even the race fans, which I haven't been since I was 15. Which is also why I didn't bother watching it. Whitefang

"Pigpen" works just fine. ð At least it was good enough for him. I think he's due that respect. As we have no way of knowing the man would have gone along with "Piggy" I think it's best to just not mess with it. For a time at Cadillac I had the nickname "Q-Tip". I'd have ignored anyone who called me "Tippy". Or just "Q". Whitefang
