  1. My wife(and before I met her) was huge into that "Urban Cowboy" trend back then. And Alabama was her favorite band. Depending on what you believe, you can say she finally gets to meet one of them now. Whitefang
  2. And don't forget MINGUS! Love that line: "But the cleaner from DesMoines could put a coin/In the door of a john and get twenty for one".... Whitefang
  3. "Young Girl"--Gary Puckett and The Union Gap Whitefang
  4. Many people forget(or just never knew) that many "front" performers also know how to play certain instruments. No matter how rudimentary. Dolly, Loretta and probably several others know a bit about guitar playing but prefer to just sing, feeling their level of playing can't keep up with the rest of the musicians in their back-up ensembles. And you'll find excellent guitarists becoming famous for something other than playing guitar. Like this girl of "Cuchi-Cuchi" fame. I understand she's done some studying with Andres Segovia! 5. British jazz guitarist is also listed as a guitarist on "Hurdy Gurdy Man". When it came out, most of us thought it was Ringo Starr doing the drums due to it so closely resembling Ringo's work on "A Day In The Life". But some sources claim it's John Bonham on drums. And always liking Donovan, I was a bit disappointed at his attempted "updates" of "Catch The Wind" and "Colours" found on his "Greatest Hits" LP. I felt he should have just left them alone. But I did like his willingness to try different styles and instrumentations, like with----- Then there was also his tendency to chance accents and syllable emphasis on certain words just to make them fit a particular meter of a song Like.... Just one example of that. And sadly, this tune used in a commercial for some brand of teeny-bop cosmetics. Whitefang
  6. "Young Turks"--Rod Stewart(again). Whitefang
  7. On Monday singer/songstress supreme JONI MITCHELL turned 79 and I(or anyone) failed to mention it! Now, Joni is too much a musical icon to have had this happen. So I'll offer belated birthday wishes and post a favorite from a favorite LP (or two) to try making up for it.... Joni certainly has an astounding way with words and imagery, AND music. And these two prove it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Joni. And many more to you. Whitefang
  8. Could be, but I don't know who did that particular guitar work on that one. Or on this one either( and what d'you supposed was used here? The electric I mean of course) Whitefang
  9. "Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands"--Bob Dylan Whitefang
  10. That player was Jan Hammer. Their second LP("Birds Of Fire") And there really wasn't a Moog used in the first. But Jan does like that bender. Luckily he didn't always overuse it. "Birds Of Fire" is a pretty good second effort for them. Oddly, I found it used as background music on a dollar store cassette tape of those (supposedly) spooky Halloween sounds I bought for the Hell of it. Whitefang
  11. Yeah, but back then it was only a temporary thing. I don't recall it being an annual "event" until '68 or so. Whitefang
  12. Here ya go.... Beck does shoot more life into it. Whitefang
  13. Works just as well. Good going. Whitefang
  14. I go the more "cultural" route. Saw(and heard)Weissenberg do this with the DSO and Jarvi . Ethereal bliss. Whitefang
  15. Does it play that tune when the light goes on? Whitefang
  16. Hope you get it soon. And that you're not disappointed. Nothing's worse than waiting anxiously for something you're excited about and discovering it wasn't worth the anticipation. I hate it when that happens. Whitefang
  17. I've only always thought of Jeff Beck as an OK guitarist, but nothing much out of the ordinary. Best I can say he did always have his own style, and no other influence could be heard in it. And he did do some good stuff with others outside of his assumed genre. Like what he did with Stanley Clarke, Jan Hammer and others. Not familiar with all of Beck's repertoire. Was that a "cover" of........ ? Oh, never mind. I found it. The old Mahavishnu tune. Whitefang
  18. I always heard it was when his wife found them in his car's glove box. Whitefang
  19. You should try reading more carefully. My reply was to Sarge, who felt the need to inform Tman who the character of Long duc Dong was, which I did earlier by posting that clip from the movie "Sixteen Candles". As an aside-------- A buddy of mine cracked us up by pointing out that a local Chinese restaurant spelled "wanton" wrong when he saw wonton soup on the menu. Guess he was wondering if the soup was really sexually unrestrained. Whitefang
  20. It was my understanding that was the main reason. I wonder if anyone thought to poll farmers recently to see if they still support it. Or even if they ever really did. Personally, the only place I know of that never bothered with the time switches is my inner clock. Whitefang
  21. I get all the free candy I want from kids who get it from strangers who hang around their schools. Whitefang
