  1. To be fair though, I would say the Gibson price hike is more extreme than the Fender price hike, right? Then again, there was a lot of demand once they stopped drilling cheese holes in guitars. So they've capitalized on that. If all of a sudden there was a sudden huge demand for Strats, Fender would likely do the same. Like you guys say, it's capitalism. But the question is if it's sustainable and where it'll go.
  2. That's the slightly less diplomatic version, but yes, there you go.
  3. And that's comparatively "cheap". It'll be interesting to see if there will be a lot of guitars collecting dust at retailers for a long time now. Try running it by your partner - "oh, gas is up again, but I stockpiled canned goods that were on sale and saved ten bucks. Oh, btw, how about I buy a guitar for three grand?" Hell, try running it by yourself. I think fewer retailers will stock Gibsons in a few years? As for how it's possible, well, Gibson has sold a lot of guitars in the last five years, so of course they won't do a pre-emptive slashing of the prices. But the past five years won't resemble the next five years, I don't think.
  4. I was gonna suggest Thomann - they really are good and their customer service is great - but when it's an expensive guitar it really is best to try it in person. Hang in there.
  5. I just don't get signed guitars. There's no one I'd let near mine with a magic marker. Maybe it seems like a good idea at the time...
  6. I turned on CNN one day, I believe it was morning over here. I was just... It took a long time to even believe it wasn't a movie. It changed a lot of things, obviously. Remember flying before?
  7. Well, that's hard to explain... At least for me it is. I've only ever played a 50s neck once, but if memory serves, it was a tiny bit thicker than the Epi Slash. The slim taper neck is, well, slimmer.
  8. Axl sounds horrible live for the most part these days, unfortunately
  9. That should certainly satisfy the OPs curiosity.
  10. I've solved it by never listening to the radio. I highly recommend it!
  11. To be brutally frank, you're probably gonna have a hard time selling that. Not many people like their Gibsons scribbled on, and a T-shirt manufacturer's logo doesn't exactly make it any more desirable.
  12. Same. To me, there's never been better rock 'n roll made neither before or after.
  13. I'm not as into looking up new artists as when I was younger, but I try to make a concerted effort from time to time. As for streaming and all that - love it. It is what you make of it. If someone told me when I was a kid that one day I'd have all the world's albums at my fingertips playing from my phone into cordless in-ears... well, that would be Christmas, wouldn't it? If we don't take our time to dive as deep into albums because we're spoiled for choice, well, that's our own fault. But yes, obviously it's a human trait to look around and skip tracks. But hey - not the medium's fault. If there wasn't a Spotify, would we still obsessively search out album after album at 50 like we did when we were 15? I don't think so. It'd be the same, except for we'd have to pay much, much, more for much, much, MUCH less. That's my opinion anyway.
  14. The Tributes are cheaper. From what I can see both guitars (if the Studio is the current model) come with 490 / 496 humbuckers, but the Studio apparently comes with "ultra modern" weight relief, which would make it more weight-relieved than the Tribute which I believe has 9-hole weight relief. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I've never played one that was chambered (ultra-modern weight relief), so I don't really know what they're like. Personally I would hold out for a Standard.
  15. Get it to a luthier. It might be high resonance, but the resonance is rattling SOMETHING. Wood vibrating doesn't buzz on its own.
