  1. Thank you all for the feedback and tips. Hopefully it's only temporary.... today's back up above 40% humidity. Some good take-aways, don't put it in so wet so that it's 'drippy' and/or beware of water stains. 62Bs comment on getting a hygrometer for in the guitar sounds like a wise way to go - will put it on the Christmas wish list. Not sure about the shower beads ZW, they're probably better but with a sponge and water I'm not concerned of any foreign substances where as with the beads, I just don't trust them. Thank you all again and happy hydrating!
  2. it's all of a sudden got super dry (35% w/ humidifier going full and doors closed). I can normally manage it with the humidifier, but this is extreme. Thinking back to various threads, I recall folks talking about home made damp its - so I put a damp sponge in a baggy with some holes in it, and placed it in the soundhole - at least until this dry spell is over or I can get to the guitar store if this doesn't work. Went together easy and seems like a good temp solution, but does anyone have input / words of caution about going the home made route? Thanks to all for any input... rgds brfm
  3. Very nice, she's a keeper... but I also spot some opportunity in that statement... go look for one of those real nice guitars and see what type of a deal they can offer you 🙂
  4. I do have the vintage ('18 vintage)... and there's a few other things going as well in addition to what you mention. Different nut (his is the black material) and he's got the grover rotomatics which are heavier and folks said that could add sustain a bit as well - so not apples to apples.
  5. I've played a couple open mics where one of the guys plays a J45 standard (purchased new this year) and we've been able to do a little compare and contrast to mine with baked top. My first take-aways is his is like butter, and mine is crunch. On his, everything sounds much smoother and blended together, on mine there seems to be more of a separation between notes, maybe brighter, or quicker decay, something that's a little different. Depends what you like to say which is better (I like mine). This also got me thinking on string choice though, I'm typically a PB guy, but thinking of going back to 80 / 20 where I feel those accent the crunchiness of my guitar. Just thoughts - but it's not often I get a close comparison so figured I'd share.
  6. Very nice Sal! You sound good, it sounds good - congrats!
  7. Gone for good - Samantha Fish... open g chicken picken' goodness
  8. Very nice Tom, thank you for sharing.
  9. Seems like he was pretty good at most things, I'll check him out looking for some chicken picken
  10. If it's electric, does it come with an amp... it should 🙂
  11. Chicken picken update - a week in. It's cool, and I pretty much got the Samantha Fish lick down (but having a bear of a time getting vocals right). Although it is cool, I've concluded unless I'm copying a specific lick - I like using my thumb for bass and first two fingers for pickin. I think whatever you do is fine, but I've got years of doing this and it seems to work well for me.
  12. Used 335 and used telecaster thin line... nah it's retirement - new 335 and new telecaster thin line.
  13. I'd try to tackle it room by room. I use smaller mist creating ones and able to manage, but able to close doors etc... when I need to. Maybe get a little larger one if needed. I'd try for 1 per room, but if that didn't work, I'd be willing to do 2 per room for thr # of guitars you're talking.
  14. Playing with strings is a fun and pretty inexpensive experiment, and final selection largely comes to taste. I do change across gages but more to balance the sound how I like (i.e. 13 vs 12 for hi e, 54 for low e vs 56) but when I change across brands its for an overall sound change. I think going from 80/20 to PB is a subtle change, but there is a difference. For a real big difference try Martin retro strings. Those weren't to my liking (as much because they are all silver, and I prefer bronze color on the lower 4 strings) but there are some folks on this forum that use them, post songs and rock them. I say just get some, put em on and give em a go. I also say give them a couple weeks before swapping out again if you get into an experimental phase.
  15. Happy Birthday to you... scratch it an extra time today! Cool
  16. Happy Thanksgiving All - hope everyone had a good day!
  17. I'll piggy back off this. I agree with Murph on everything - especially the use of my recordings, just a personal record that might get shared with a few folks and the ease of use of the apogee makes it a snap. I do have the Presonus 4 input thing, and use it some - but I don't know jack about recording, it does not seem easy / intuitive to me to pick up, so unless I want multiple inputs - I go back to the ease of use of the Apogee. ...but if you want the option to have multiple inputs etc... - then the focus rite is the way to go for you.
  18. Hey Sal, I feel they do two different jobs. Nothing is easier for plug and play than the apogee - and right into garage band to get the right settings (I feel I get a really good sound w/o much effort of figuring things out). If I want to get more in depth in my recording endeavor though - then having multiple inputs is good, but not always necessary. I have the presonus 44 VSL and like it when I'm doing more of a production, but love the ease of the apogee If I had to choose one or the other, I'd go apogee first. Did you try replacing the cable ($30... might fix your issues).
  19. Bummer Saturn, seems like you're taking it in stride (good for you!) and good luck with fixing it.
