  1. Nice, our repeat go to movie (college) was Monty Python's Holy Grail, not a horror film - but a classic none the less. Must of watched it 100 times.
  2. Evil Dead... first one I ever saw, has a special place. Also nightmare on Elm street, I grew up on Elm street...
  3. arrggggh - YT is down, cant see the videos. Anyways in my minds' eye - I've imagined them and they are freakin awesome! ...or maybe that was those flashbacks they'be been promising.
  4. Sal, out of curiosity, any idea what you're going to wear?
  5. Awesome... and the family factor makes it that much better!
  6. Never had cats, but those dogs look like I'd love them forever! Gotta imagine they leave a bit of dog hair on those wood floors though?
  7. ZW - from the photos I've seen of you, my feeling is you could make a cameo as you are and the Woodstock vibe would be enhanced. The scenario I envision is the band leaves the stage between sets, you come out of nowhere, no intro, just grab stool, sit center stage grab your guit and go. do one song only, maybe you do an arlo song - does he do anything with a 12 string, (music only, no vocals... unless Sal circles back after a few, then sets in?) finish, get up nod to the birthday person and leave, and the Woodstock vibe would be enhanced :). Then I would come back and drink a few.
  8. I like your set list, and did not experience woodstock but if i think about those out in the field days with a band, keg and a frisbee during the '80s and my pseudo hippy days - always liked 'Feeling alright' ...and then the Star Spangled Banner a la Jimi could be a good way to cap things off.
  9. Great song, and really liking seeing KT T with a band. I've only seen her solo looping performances, which are great but I feel lacks a live band feel. ...and have to say, out of all the current musicians - i've got a strong affinity for KT.
  10. Good stuff BK, do you think the ebony slide will replace your glass? As an aside- on my way home last night some blind willie mctell came across the radio - was going to see if you could cover it, but for the life of me cant remember the name. Had Memphis Minnie on it as well. Regardless - pretty good young man!
  11. Thank you all - really appreciate the input. My goal here (for the point of this thread) is not validation, and it's not making sure I don't suck, but my goal now is to develop the ability to know when i'm sucking and why. I feel I play a fair amount, but unless it's targeted - it's more noodling than improvement. So active listening is my new goal (Lars will try your tricks!) One other bit of advice i got that I really appreciate and seems to help things meld together is to slow everything down, which seems to make a difference right off the bat. I'm thinking on lessons, but dont think it's so much guitar lessons but more so performance lessons - pulling it altogether. ----------- Tangent topic - got to play with my piano guy friend last night. Someone suggested bringing a capo, I thank you for it. Piano guy also plays guitar (has a musical past) and we framed out a pretty cool version of 'For what it's worth' by Buffalo Springfield. ---------- PS - As BK noted, could be the guitar, don't think so but probably should get a new one just to rule it out. :)
  12. Thanks Buc, I agree - it's not as intuitive to me as I wish, but learning what to listen for is the first step in being able to self critique. Lars suggested listening repeatedly and critiquing of recordings and I'm giving that a go. rgds - br
  13. Hi all, Where do you all go to for feedback on your performances? In the family and friends arena, you always get 'yeah that's nice' - but that's not useful. For background I'm a kitchen table player (25+ yrs) with aspirations of playing out - (my pipe dream - a 2 hour set of (acoustic) stuff I want to play, to a listening audience). I've done a couple open mics, and have my first 'jam' session with that piano guy tonight. My feedback channels are myself (and I'm not a good judge yet), family (rarely says something does not sound good, unless they want me to stop playing all together) and this forum as well, but think there's steps to take first. What do you all think, is that where lessons come in, work the jam thing... I'm a bit at a loss? How do you all pinpoint the next things you work on (everyone I've heard here is good, but I gotta believe you earned your way)? Any input is appreciated... and probably beneficial to yourself as well (enabling me to inflict less pain on this group :) Rgds - billroy
  14. BK - Just Awesome! Thanks Lars and True 'Dat. Need to develop the skill of judging my own stuff, will try repeat listening. To all - thanks for the listens and the comments... I'll progress.
  15. Sorry BBG, but the best thing about the bottom is only one way to go... I liked it Kieth, I love the song - probably more from memories of where I first heard it, but here's the on you tube. And playing out, what's the worst that can happen, someone say's it's pretty awful :)
  16. Thanks TS / BK - appreciate the listen and feedback. I think one take-away is matching the tone to the words, I hear the sneer as well - but it's supposed to be a song about going to see your baby again, a good thing - so got to work on that. Yes BK - the middle is tough, for some reason the progression of chords (GCFCG)... and hitting the 'FCG' correct is tough for me (freakin' F chord, gets me every time) will try your suggestion and a couple other things see what I can work out. TS - pitchy / whiny... just listened to 'Basket Case' again, and have a hard time believing Pitchy and Whiny was ever used to describe you... maybe sensitive and harmonious :)
  17. Thank you for listening! The chickens are fun, only inside until they're a little bigger - the outside ones come to the corner and hang out when I'm playing... if I break into Freebird, they start swaying back and forth :).
  18. Hi All - The kids had a half day, so figured we'd hang out - but they're all absolute MORONs, so instead I hung out in the basement with the chickens and put this together ('The Letter' Box Tops cover). As an aside - I started to learn to play this for my folks as something they knew... so I played it for them, they replied 'never heard of it - can't you learn something by the Supremes'... I think it's an oldie but a goody, maybe it will conjure up a memory or two for some of you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXHUjUyaDZQ&feature=youtu.be
  19. Man I love fishing, but geeze it can become all consuming pretty quick! Love bass.
  20. Would be hard pressed to frown upon a '53 Southern Jumbo, congrats!
  21. Woodworking for me, making cigar box guitars right now and working up to real ones...
  22. Nice job, got lost in it, that's how I rate a good song!
