  1. Be still my heart Rabs - the things that just opened up to you are huge!!! Enjoy, respect, keep all your fingers...
  2. I guess these will be classics one day, and if that's your goal - keep it original, but I see it more as a tool of the trade, a nice tool of the trade, but a tool - so make it work for you. If the logo is something that gets to you, change it. Someone on the forum chimed in to questions I had posted and replied something like this, 'it's your guitar, you're tool of the trade, over time your DNA will be all over it' - here's a chance to add a little more of your DNA.
  3. Nice BK, you got them fingers really moving right about 1:10... oooooooh goooood!
  4. Never heard them before, but I love them now - must've been a great show! The twang of that guitar is awesome, from the very first note.
  5. I don't have much of a sample size to really add to the discussion, but from the sidelines my expectations would have been AJs and SJ 200s, a little surprised by the hummingbird representation.
  6. I've yet to travel the double drop d path. I remember my first time... in regular drop d, and it was quite impressionable (resulted in sheriff brown). maybe it's time for a walk on the wild side and trying some double drop.
  7. Nice version Sal, reminds me of a version of 'Summertime' a friend did at an impromptu gathering one day. I don't have a recording of it, but still think back as one of the most magical songs / performances I had ever seen. This woman really reminds me of my friend. good stuff!
  8. As always - great stuff BK! Thought the pick up sounded pretty good as well.
  9. Super nice, love that back - here's to a new chapter!
  10. Hadn't thought of that, yes that would be a good afternoon! Once confirmed you weren't paparazzi, you'd be brought in for a proper introduction. Did sound good, never thought of lower tunings turning to mush in some guitars, need to do some more research on those Smecks.
  11. Hey Folks, Just having a little fun (and Tom apologies for the intrusion...) but there was a post showing an early AJ side by side with it's peer Martin. That got me thinking to a fantasy comparison I would love to do some day, and when I go hardcore day dream about guitar comparisons, it always starts at Tom's kitchen table having a little lunch before taking a trip through his collection. For this go around, the guitar's I would target are an original jumbo, an early AJ, and an early J35, and then the appropriate Martin counterparts just to do my due diligence. And some small bodied something or other . I know several of you have collections, but for those of us playing with a limited stable - what would your agenda be if you were to have an afternoon at Tom's? Even if it's not in Tom's stable, what would be a holy grail guitar to get to try? Disclaimer, an afternoon at Tom's is not an actual thing, nobody wins any trip anywhere by replying, but if you did win a trip... Rgds - billroy
  12. Hey Tom, is that an original jumbo? Do you ever put any time into playing that one, and thoughts on it?
  13. More measured and in sync, but feel it's missing a little life - thinking on it, but here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP3eD3xBU5s&feature=youtu.be Lol - was that Blues Brothers or Animal House, made me laugh and did make me think of that! Anyone out there ever play behind a fence for your protection... BK - how about you, w/ all those gigs with Melbourne HA.. or Murph in your many excursions?!? They hate us because the aint us :) Go Bruins
  14. Hey All - Determined not to let a little set back slow my progress, I am jumping in with both feet and doing 'The Letter' at an open mic later this week. I have simplified, slowed down, and practiced, practiced, practiced... I then recorded and listened, tried to pick out bad spots, and practiced some more. I liked what I heard, but understanding my barometer is suspect at best I figure I should go in with a protection plan... Open Mic Success Enabler and Injury Prevention Plan: 1) Negotiate a time slot a little later in the evening, and preferably after the 80s soft rock guy (anything after 'tainted love' sounds good) 2) Get my friends into a drinking contest before I go on (with each other, I will abstain) 3) Wear appropriate gear to stem off projectiles (see below) Regardless, I would have gone big with what I had, I believe where I'm at is better now - so appreciate all the feedback and fingers crossed :) br
  15. Thank you! I really love TP, and could just listen to you all day long, nice.
  16. Nice bit of history, nice guitar - congrats!
  17. On my way home last night Tom Petty's ' ' came across the radio. First thought I had is geeze that sounds like TSal, and got me wondering if anyone had ever seen the two of them together? Regardless, Sal - not sure you ever put up a version of this, but if you ever get a hankerin', would love to hear your take. The TP sound with the TS swagger.
  18. I think 'Blair Witch' needs a shout out... scared me.
  19. There's some Gibson love there, what is he playing, it that be a banner Southern Jumbo?
  20. Sorry BBG, I missed the question. My issue is it sounded good to me, trying to figure out how to recalibrate.
  21. Very Nice, all of you! Murph, you rock I want a 'murphy slaw' t-shirt! Sal, just awesome, love the bird! Lars - just really liked it, good stuff gents!
  22. Getting ready to do my first fret build (actually a fret saw away, but getting there :). Going to try my hand on a 2 in wide fretboard with a 23" scale and a 9 1/2 in radius. Figure I'll make my mistakes on a CBG before going whole hog and trying to make a full size.
