  1. The Les Paul Standard Double Cut Plus Top on Reverb re-sale averages between 1.2k to 2k, which seems low to me but who knows maybe they got neck dive. This one below on Reverb is asking 2.6k. The current CS Les Paul Special Double Cut Plus Top does have 4 knobs, for 4.9k.
  2. With bolt-on's, the serial number should be on the neck plate. If the plate is blank it may have been replaced or sometimes early asian made Epiphones only had a stick SN label.
  3. The most popular in here seem to be the Jazz and P-Basses, which seems logical as their pickups set the standard for many other basses. I had a couple of Squire P-Basses but the most memorable was a 59 P-Bass I had in the late 80's, something about its comfortable neck and balance. I think my most uncomfortable Bass was my Mosrite with really bad neck dive, but it sounded really good. I played it sitting down in a store and thought it was incredible, but that night at band practice I had a constant fight to keep the neck up. So I traded it in on my Guild Starfire. Product shot of my Dean bass that I have kept as a backup. The neck bowed a few weeks after I brought it home, I was able to adjust it nice and flat, then the low frets started to buzz. I noticed the sting slots in the nut went all the way down to the fingerboard so I had to shim the nut to get them high enough. It plays great now good balance and weight, not bad for an inexpensive bass, but my Yamaha with its P & J pickups has a much wider tone range.
  4. Wow some really nice Basses in here..... My last Bass gig at the Akebono Theater in 2008 playing my Schecter.... When I first started playing speed metal bass in 90's I used a flat pick, then I found I could play faster and more consistently picking with my fingers.
  5. Harley Benton is a good resource for Lefties.... https://www.thomannmusic.com/harley_benton_lefthanded_guitars.html Thomann has quite a selection of left hand Harley Benton models in stock.. I really like the DC-60 Junior using the Guild SG shape. Wow, lefties finally getting a break, their lefties seem to cost less than the equivalent righties...
  6. It takes my breath away............ help I can't breathe.
  7. Thanks guys for sharing your Basses.. Bass's or Basses I just liked the look of Bass's better.. When I got out of the military in the early 70's I realized there was a ton of really good guitarists competing for top dog, so breaking into a new music scene I picked up this Kalamazoo SG Bass that I modified heavily for a while and played through an Ampeg 15" Fliptop but realized the Fliptop wasn't going to cut it. So I got the SVT below which could double for any guitar work I wanted to do. I had an Aria LP (a lawsuit guitar) that sounded killer over it. Later I replaced the Kalamazoo with a Telecaster Bass Ampeg was my choice for Guitar or Bass quite a while after the SVT. I did have a Silverface Bassman 100 with a 4X12 Wedge cabinet for quite a while that was a really solid workhorse and mixed in a a few other amps at times. Then I got Into Bi-Amping and mixing different amps and cabinets, I really liked mixing in a GK 250ML for the Bi-Amped high-end with effects driven by a Crate B150 15" combo with Bi-Amping to a Peavey 200w power amp driving an 18" Black Widow. I really want to see more of the Basses in your collections..
  8. When I was 14 a strangely compelling Tiesco Bass hanging on the in a music store, I had been playing the guitar for about 2 years at this time, but had no idea about Bass playing. I bought the Tiesco on time using my lunch money, the moment I walked out of the store with it, some friends saw it and asked if I wanted to join their band. 2 days later we were playing a frat party gig. I have always played guitar, but sometimes I would get distracted by a beautiful Bass like this Guild Starfire below and tended to only play Bass in original music bands that tended to be very progressive. I have had several Bass's but still dream about this Guild. I got paid more often for playing Jazz, Rock, Blues or Country Bass. My main problem playing Bass is that I have always been a decent guitar player and I would get distracted by my latest 6-string purchase. I just recently bought my First Yamaha, a TRBX 174 that is very well balanced, plays wonderful and its P & J pickups sound killer, so much so that my Bass player can't keep his hands off of it and is buying it from me. I know there are a lot of other people who play Bass in this forum and I would like to see your favorites.
  9. I think I'm getting weak in the knees.,
  10. Paul needed Johns lyrics, John needed Pauls arrangements. George did very well at both..
  11. I think being programed to be right handed may have helped me use my most dexterous hand on a R-H guitars fret board, perhaps not wasting my best hand on picking.
  12. One of Pauls first bass's was a R-H guitar strung for L-H with bass strings, in the early 60's and late 50's lefty guitars were rare specially in the UK you made due with what you could get, if you wanted to play. There are plenty of early pic's of Jimi playing different brands of R-H guitars strung for left, so in that time period the US didn't have much to offer either. Not much in the way of lefty products. Samuri all drew their Katana's with their right hand, called "Te" meaning hand and their left hand is "Migi-Te" meaning your other hand. My mom would always take the fork out of my left hand and gently encourage me to use my right. As far as having a lefty Strat set up R-H its just to learn what he experienced having all of the controls right under his hand..
  13. I watched it again last night and saw things I missed the first couple of times.
  14. When I can't find something that isn't where I though left it, I have to blame my significant other so I find it where I actually left it.
  15. One of the reasons I am interested in getting a lefty Strat Is to experience the position of the controls and trem bar that Jimi had. Stevie Ray's main guitar the SRV Strat had a lefty Trem on it which made it easy to find, I noticed watching Stevie vids that while playing a normal Strat he fumbled trying to find the trem bar. On more intense trem songs he seemed to use the SRV Strat more.
  16. I'm just glad I survived being in the military in the 60's, it was a very different time the whole country was very divided on what the armed forces were dong.
  17. Very nice looking Bass. I had a Hofner 185 Artist Bass back in the late 70's, like the one below. I had tried a Beatle Bass but found the 185 had more comfortable contours.
  18. I'm glad to hear your in-laws are safe. I went to Korea in 68 for a year, its an amazing place. I was looking at Google Earth a while ago, South Korea has modernized quite a bit with new roads and highways everywhere, where there used to be small farm roads. I left in 69 so I guess there has been a lot of time for Korea to change into an industrial powerhouse.
  19. I used to got to NAB frequently to get info on the latest editing software, but when AVID migrated to PC I was disappointed.
  20. Beautiful Elite Les Paul Custom... The Elite/Elitist built at Fugi-gen in Japan tend to bring a higher value depending on the popularity of the specific model starting at about 1k and up. Also note that the headstock shape that yours has is not very common, Elite/Elitist use a few different headstocks typically the clipped ear headstock. Also note the 2 screw Gibson style nut cover, most Epi's have the 3 screw style cover. When comparing for price, match the Custom style bound headstock shape and the 2 screw nut cover. Serial number: F300359 Production year: 2003 Serie: 00359 Made by Fuji-gen, Japan (Model: Elite/Elitist)
  21. Well a few weeks later the Hum Eliminator is still performing miracles, not only removing cycle hum but even the expected noise from a chain of overdrives which my Sans Amp has three. The Hum Debugger is amazing.
  22. My Blueshawk's lever style pickup selector switch was making some noise, it has circular 3 level stacked circuit boards each with a different mechanical switching function. So basically I had to clean the switching on 3 different boards on a stacked switch. But I was successful, it worked perfectly at rehearsal..
  23. I read that Mcintosh uses JJ's that are Russian made, which I was surprised because I think there are also China made JJ''s.
