BIGBENDS Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 A friend of mine recently gave me the Saxon CD LIONHEART and, man, does it kick @ss. It's an older CD from the early 2000's, but it's really fantastic. It's got great guitar tone, licks, phrasing, and the overall song writing is good. Anyone here a Saxon fan? I saw them back in the late 80's and Paul Quinn used to play a Gibson SG. That night they made Maiden look like a garage band. Does anyone know what the Saxon lineup is now? I know that Nigel is back on drums, but who's on guitar and bass? What kind of guitars do they play these days? I'll have to buy their latest CD. Have you guys heard it?
Bluemoon Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I was a big Saxon fan. I saw them in the early 80s too. I haven't listened to their stuff in a long time, though.
cvansickle Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I used to have Power and the Glory and Crusader. The music was pretty good, but as a band I always thought they were kind of faceless. Definitely not as forceful as Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.
saturn Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I used to love Denim and Leather. I thought the singers name was Biff something. I haven't heard anything about them since the 80's though.
ChanMan Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Saw them open up for Kansas in Nashville back in the late '70s/early 80's... they ROCKED!
Riffster Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I have Crusader on vinyl, have not listened to it in a long time but they were good. Not as good as other bands but decent. To me the "80s" band that deserves more recognition is Accept...but that's just me.
GhrT Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I don't know that much of them, but I saw them live last year. My girlfriend is a big fan of them, though. They have some good songs, and an impressive stage act.
Space Pup Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 To me the "80s" band that deserves more recognition is Accept...but that's just me. You can add Malice and Armored Saint to that list too. I've seen Saxon three times in the 80's, always a good show.
GhrT Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 To me the "80s" band that deserves more recognition is Accept...but that's just me. I saw them live a couple of years ago. Didn't know anything about them or their music, but it was probably one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Totally blown away.
LPCustom89 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 They're still around but I believe they pretty much only play in Europe & UK. Not sure of the current lineup though. Awesome band live ! Used to cover "Power & the Glory" Glad to see they're still at it
saturn Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 The Princess of the Night was one of my favorites if theirs. Great riff.
eire81 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I don't know the answers to ur questions, but I'm a Saxon fan from the 80's too. Me and my garage band used to do "Dallas 1PM" and "Strong arm of the Law". Kick *** tunes and fun songs to play.
ibis Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Yup, I'm a fan. They're currently touring their new album (due for release very soon): They toured the UK with Motorhead. Great music! Homepage All Music Guide
