amarrocolla
I bought this from someone on ebay. Once I received it the headstock was cracked. I took it into Sam Ash to get an estimate on the price of repair. When they saw the guitar they told me it was fake. To be honest, compared to other Gibson Gospel's this looks the same. I have a feeling the guitar tech was unfamiliar with this model and just assumed it wasnt real. Obviously we know how experienced chain guitar store techs can be. It is a 1995 Left Handed Gibson Gospel. The serial numbers match on the inside orange label and the back of the headstock. It has the Accuvoice electronics. Can anyone offer me any information on if this guitar is real or not? Serial number 91015013 I am going to contact Gibson earlier today. I apologize for the bad pictures but my camera is not working so I had to use my phone. ANY help would be extremely appreciated. gearbasher
Just an uneducated opinion. But, I doubt anyone would spend the time and energy to fake a left-handed guitar. It's so much easier to unload a righty.
amarrocolla
thank you for posting the pictures for me. my html is bad. I am only going on what I was told as Sam Ash by the guitar tech, I'd like to think that it was real. Out of all the acoustic models to fake, why would they fake a 1995 Gibson Gospel reissue, ya know what i mean?

amarrocolla
Thank You, I contacted Gibson and the serial number matches a left handed Gospel. The guy said its most likely not a fake, he was very helpful.

modoc_333
yeah, tech was clueless. it's a rare model, and the headstock design/logo is something you don't see that often. it's real though. how does it sound?
amarrocolla
Sadly I havent even got to player her yet. But I will tell you once the headstock crack is fixed. The moron I bought it from on ebay shipped it in the guitar case with 2 pieces of thin cardboard taped to the case. I mean what guitar player ships a guitar like that? Regardless, Im having it repaired tomorrow and I will let you know soon enough!. I really appreciate everyone's help.
Thermionik
. . Anybody got any ideas on that headstock logo - significance, rarity, whatever..... .
amarrocolla
I know the original Gibson Gospel was made in the 1970s, the ones made in the 90s' are the reissued version. There are some 1994 models of the Gospel that are 100th anniversary versions. I've never seen this version in left handed though other than the one I bought. There are several different headstock variations I've seen with the Dove on them, nor do you see them as acoustic/electric versions often. When I called Gibson the customer service rep said that my left handed version was rare. Here is an ebay auction with a different style dove on the headstock: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-GIBSON-GOSPEL-ACOUSTIC-GUITAR-W-EXTRAS_W0QQitemZ360120634730QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item360120634730&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

onewilyfool
Amar.....was your guitar insured? May I ask, how much the repair cost?
amarrocolla
It was insured. But the post office told me I need to have the original insurance slip, however the guy I bought it from is giving me the run around. I actually think the guitar was broken before he shipped it to me. There is nothing I can do, paypal will not do anything, it has been a whole hassle. I just want to get it repaired and play it. The guitar tech said it would be $150.00 for the repair. Which I think is pretty fair for a headstock repair. Most places charge that.
Guest
No wonder the headstock cracked: it looks like the poor guitar can't stop MOVING!! Fred
amarrocolla
there is a picture of the crack. You can see the idiot put a stupid guitar store sticker on the back. Any best way to get it removed without messing up the finish? Once it is repaired and set up, it should play great. it has nice big frets, I cant wait to actually get to play it! haha. My wife wants to kill me for complaining about it so much since I received it.
modoc_333
i hate it when stores put their advertisement on the damn guitar. that's just selfish on their part. it's a way for you to advertise for them forever... as if they still have some claim to the guitar after selling it. as for taking it off it really depends on the sticker. have the tech look at it. personally, i would rather have the finished slightly messed up than to have the sticker on it. Taylor Player
I would peel the sticker off best I could and then use some Naptha (I use Rossignol lighter fluid which is naptha). Most luthiers buy the stuff by the gallon for cleaning up sticky stuff on guitars but my little bottle of lighter fluid is 100% Naptha and will still last me a lifetime! My wife wants to kill me for complaining about it so much since I received it. Will they never understand the love we have for guitars?
ksdaddy
I briefly owned a '94 Gospel and it had that logo as well. Nid99 should chime in because he's got at least one and I think he had another in the past... or not...

amarrocolla
Yea there was no need for the sticker! I will ask the tech tomorrow to remove it and I'll let you all know the result.
brians356
Dang, when you said headstock "crack" I imagined some kind of vertical hairline split, but that headstock essentially broke off! The case would have had to have been crushed for that to have happened in shipping. I hope you gave the seller the lowest possible slam on Ebay feedback (if it was from Ebay.) amarrocolla
I know! I am actually lucky the headstock didn't crack off. There is nothing I can do but repair the guitar. I didnt buy it to resell it, I needed a new acoustic to record with, so hopefully it will deem good for the job. I just hope the tech repairs its properly so the guitar stays in tune. I will let you know though how it comes out. This is my first post on here and you guys are really nice and helpful and its awesome.
