KSG_Standard
As I've said before on this forum...I try to respect other people's views and belief systems. I believe that we are all mature enough to do the same. There are some of you folks that don't believe in God, or tradition or capitalism, or county music, etc., etc...In my humble opinion, we should all be able to have whatever beliefs we want, we should be able to share our opinions, but we don't have to tear down anyone's belief system while doing so. I don't believe in the modern labor movement, Bhuddism, secular Humanism, Socialism or many of the things that some of you believe in, but I try not to tear down your beliefs Sometimes I do write things that come across as too negative, but I try not too. This forum is such a small pond, that it's hard to ignore threads because there aren't that many new threads started, or members responding. I get the fact that some of you hate God and hate Christians, you are not alone. I respect your opinions even though I don't agree with them. I don't mind having conversations about what I believe in or what you believe in. I don't mind defending my position or reading your defense of your position. I'm not going to change your minds about many things, I'm not going to try, it's not my job to convince you of anything. Your not going to change my mind about very many things either. Cool...but how about some mutual respect during the discussions? Just a thought...

Cruznolfart
+1 Throw me on this pile, too. I know there are some other members here who've come from environments in which respect was THE key to survival. I don't agree with the notion that because we're sitting at a keyboard we're entitled to giving OR getting any less respect than we would face-to-face. Shouldn't need to be said, but... Homz
Why is it viewed as hating when one calls into question some of the practices of a particular religion? That strikes me as being a bit on the defensive as if in doubt. As for me (not that you said so) I hate no particular faith or belief. When people act poorly and use their faith as a shield then they are just as open for attack as anyone else. The problem is that if your the one giving them grief then your looked at as anti-religion. That is illogical.

surfpup
how about some mutual respect during the discussions? You mean like the mutual respect you showed here. If we are going to have the death penalty' date=' then it should be applied only in the most heinous crimes:1) Murder/rape/abuse of a child 2) Murder of an on-duty police officer 3) Serial Killers 4) Being a liberal [/quote'] Yeah, I realize it was a joke (kinda). However, I say don't be an *** and others won't be an *** to you. That oughta be a commandment or something! There are numerous times I've bit my tongue on this forum. Perhaps others are learning to do the same. I say that's a good thing.
KSG_Standard
Surfpup, I don't mind if people think I'm an ***, or if they treat me like an ***, or if they make fun of me, my guitars, my cars, my music, my heritage, etc.,...My point, clumsily made apparently, was that we should respect each other's belief systems...making fun of somebodies religion will never lead to anything good. If being a liberal is a religion to you, then I apologize for the post...I don't really believe we should execute liberals.
SRV-Zeppelin
Good idea, KSG. From day one of my foruming I've tried as best I can to exercise respect and tolerance towards everyone's point of views. I don't hesitate to share mine, but I don't see the point in cutting down others.

You've never said anything offensive to me. The comment about liberalism being a religion is kind of a cheap shot, but I have pretty thick skin. However, I don't think you have always been respectful of others in your posts and now you create a post suggesting we should respect each other more. I didn't realize you ONLY meant respect for each other's religion and not political belief systems as well. My bad. The lines between religion and politics are minute (in this country anyway). I'm just sayin' walk the walk, bro. I've never disrespected your political beliefs even tough I disagree with some of them. So my point is show respect others, or be an *** and take the consequences. - but you can't have both. My dad taught me respect is a two-way street. If you start showing more (and it sounds like you plan to) - then you may start getting more. Good on ya, I say.
